i've never voted or registered with any political party but i'm sure terp would consider me a whinning republican

and even though i grew up in a metropolitan city and went to the same high school as terpball, i'm sure he considers me a backwoods redneck

cause the only people who don't agree with the all-mighty terpball's political ideologies (and i use the term ideologies very loosely) must be dumb rednecks or whinning (whatever that means) republicans

oh and also terp isn't defending reverend wright just because he's a black man...thats not the reason

I was talking about the people dwelling on him, I don't give a fuck about Wright - I'm defending Obama. Not even so much defending him, but pointing out the fact

Quote :
"it seems like the only ones still bitching about it is the likes of you - the backwards redneck type and the whining conservatives who are scared of both change and minorities.
"

You just don't matter - you can dwell on it all you want.

THATS THE ONLY EXPLANATION MY WALNUT SIZED BRAIN CAN COME UP WITH

dumb piece of shit? how so terp. Do you attack me because we disagree politically? Im more educated? Make more money? Im white? What is it.

I dont find you to be a very thoughtful person, but I wouldnt call you a piece of shit. I just dont know you. But I gather you work, went to college, and come from a nice family.. You are far from what I consider a piece of shit. Naive and immature, but not a piece of shit.

Here's a video from the song that opened up the Values Voter debate last night with Republican superstars like Mike Huckabee, Ron Paul, Tom Tancredo, and Alan Keyes. The song is called "Why Should God Bless America?" and basically concludes that, well, he shouldn't because we are a nation of heathens.

I haven't seen anybody calling out the GOP for this, double standard much?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X77R_prkCkg

Why should God bless America?
She’s forgotten he exists
And has turned her back
On everything that made her what she is

Why should God stand beside her
Through the night with the light from his hand?
God have mercy on America
Forgive her sin and heal our land

The courts ruled prayer out of our schools
In June of ‘62
Told the children “you are your own God now
So you can make the rules”
O say can you see what that choice
Has cost us to this day
America, one nation under God, has gone astray

Why should God bless America?
Shes’s forgotten he exists
And has turned her back on everything
That made her what she is

Why should God stand beside her
Through the night with the light from his hand?
God have mercy on America
Forgive her sins and heal our land

In ‘73 the Courts said we
Could take the unborn lives
The choice is yours don’t worry now
It’s not a wrong, it’s your right

But just because they made it law
Does not change God’s command
The most that we can hope for is
God’s mercy on our land

Why should God bless America?
She’s forgotten he exists
And has turned her back on everything
That made her what she is

Why should God stand beside her
Through the night with the light from his hand?
God have mercy on America
Forgive her sins and heal our land

I personally am much more offended by BO's or HRC's actual political plans than this Rev. Wrong debacle.

But, to those of you who think this doesn't matter in the general election I just want to say here and now that I am not going to defend McCain for the next 4 years. He is not my candidate and I think his campaign is pathetic, but heck I think all he needs to do is just stay silent until the election at this rate.

It clearly does matter, but I don't think it should, and I think it's largely a result of the media painting a picture for people.

But, you're right, this is pretty bad for the democrats in general. Hillary was always behind, and it almost like she's of the mentality that she'd rather McCain win than Obama, considering how she's been defending McCain. I guess she realize she's going to lose and wants to be able to run again in 4 years rather than 8.

Wright seems pretty crazy coming from the roman catholic perspective - but it I was an American protestant I wouldnt' mind that guy being my pastor I guess. I'd have to get used to the yelling and screaming and the over-all brute candor

Considering the videos actionpants posted, Wright's apparently not crazy 90% of the time at least. It's easy to see how Obama didn't know about his crazy sermons, and it's even less clear to me now exactly what was going on in the supposed crazy sermons.

It's unfortunate though that people were duped so easily, but I guess that's politics.

The very fact that Obama has been holding his shit together Stonewall Jackson style through such a massively ridiculous 'scandal' more then proves he's an able leader to me.

Yes, lets all get worked about what the guy who makes a living believing in mystical forces says.

This is a pretty good analysis I think on why most people seemed to like Obama's speech.

Quote :
"The primary rhetorical virtue of the speech can be found in two words, endemic and Faulkner. Endemic is the kind of word political consultants don't let politicians use because 72% of Americans don't understand it. This lowest-common-denominator thinking, based on dizzy polling, has long degraded American discourse. When Obama said Mr. Wright wrongly encouraged "a view that sees white racism as endemic," everyone understood. Because they're not, actually, stupid. As for Faulkner -- well, this was an American politician quoting William Faulkner: "The past isn't dead and buried. In fact, it isn't even past." This is a thought, an interesting one, which means most current politicians would never share it.

Trinity finally gets around to posting the full sermons, calling out Fox news (which was one of the worse, but all the outlets were pretty bad too):

This helps as far as showing the media was taking things out of context, but Wright is clearly anti-Bush (and heaps praise on Bill Clinton pretty generously), so this isn't going to do much as far as reaching across the aisle to the right.

Although, they have been more softer in their coverage of the Wright issues.

i was worried at first when i just saw the out-of-context clips that Hannity/Rush/Beck/Hooksaw/Oeuvre/Eyedrb want everyone to only see.

i was even questioning my own support for a moment.

but once i saw the entire speech (sermon), i was like "hell yes"

^^^ Reverend Wrong is actually on sabbatical, nutsuckr--you should do your own research instead of letting the DNC, MoveOn, and Daily Kos develop your talking points. In any event, neither retirement nor sabbatical preclude him from defending the statements in question--I'm sure there are plenty of new outlets that would give him a platform.

Quote :
"Attempts by BlackAmericaWeb.com to reach Wright were unsuccessful. A receptionist at the church said that he is on sabbatical and is out of the country."

http://www.blackamericaweb.com/site.aspx/bawnews/movingamerica08/trinitywright317

And Wright is still listed as pastor of his church's Web site--FYI:

http://www.tucc.org/pastor.htm

^^ So you're to the left of Obama? GG.

Do you have anything to support your assertion he is on sabbatical and not retired? I hope you realize that retired people do take sabbaticals.

Because the Chicago Tribune has him preaching his last sermon and all the news sites have him as retired. But please, play your game of semantics.
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chi-wright_11feb11,1,4431179.story

And isn't it cute, the man who complains about ad hominems uses them himself. So much for being older, wiser, and more mature.

His location doesn't matter anyway. He owes you and the media nothing. You have already shown a propensity to take his words out of context. Likewise, in many settings retirement and sabbatical are the exact same thing. Especially with ministers and professors.

^ No it isn't, you dumbass. "Sabbatical" is simply leave; "retirement" means you leave for good. And don't give me any "emeritus" bullshit--that's another thing entirely.

sabbatical:
