This picture is AWESOME, though:
A fairly small crowd out at the airport tonight. Just like last time, RDU had NO IDEA to expect this, but this time the security guys made everyone move away, so we stood in the median and yelled at everybody as they drove out.

Three things made that win happen for the Canes. Firstly, work ethic. The Canes came to play in OT. They were all over the Devils from the drop of the puck. This was by far the most contributory factor. Secondly, replacing Jaime with Patrick Elias in the third period was a terrible move. I doubt many of you know this but that line combination of Parise, Elias and Zajac was actually tried for a time at the beginning of the season and despite the immense amount of talent they each have for whatever reason they have no chemistry together. Their top line never had the quality chances that were present in the first two periods with Langenbrunner. Thirdly, the blame lies a bit with Papa Sutter. From the opening face off John Madden was assigned to be attached to Eric Staal's hip. The one exception was when Eric was on the PK. If you noticed John Madden was standing well away from Staal off in la-la land when Eric came in and scored his goal. In overtime Papa Sutter allowed Eric to be on the ice without Madden as his shadow which, to me, gave him free reign to set up the game winning shot from Gleason.
I probably also jinxed the Devils when I told the person I was watching the game with that I didn't care if the Devils lost since Zach scored. 4/18/2009 1:55:52 PM |

Dammit100 All American 17605 Posts user info edit post |
ok, gotcha. Elias was playing well the first 5 periods of the series, so it seemed like the best move to put a quality player on a line with your best line. 4/18/2009 2:22:52 PM |

Perhaps it's just a problem of depth with the Devils. I agree that on paper putting Patty there seems like a phenomenal idea. They just don't click together. Remember when Brindy was with Staal and how atrocious that was? Thinking about it I am not sure anyone short of the ghost of Jason Arnott would fit into that spot and I hope that Jamie will be back for game three. 4/18/2009 2:34:17 PM |

-- Without question, the RBC Center will be rocking for Sunday's Game 3. But don't expect New Jersey to be intimidated.
"Some people might find it chaotic, but I actually find it fun," John Madden said of playing in Carolina. "It's a really loud building. I don't if it's the way the building's designed, but it's a lot louder there than it is here. It's a good environment to have fun in."

Quote : | "For Game 3 in Raleigh, New Jersey Devils face a city fully behind Carolina Hurricanes by Rich Chere/The Star-Ledger Sunday April 19, 2009, 9:14 AM
The atmosphere in Madison Square Garden or in cities like Philadelphia and Montreal never comes as a surprise. It's wild.
But it is always somewhat surprising, and proabably unnerving to some players, when they go to Raleigh, N.C. When it comes to the Carolina Hurricanes, it isn't quiet Mayberry.
"They always have good support here," Devils winger Patrik Elias said. "They feed off that. They always come out flying in the first 10 minutes."
Game 3 is Sunday night at the RBC Center, but the Devils have already seen support from the Caniancs. The city is decorated with Hurricanes banners and posters. Inside the Crabtree Valley Mall is a large sand sculpture featuring several Hurricanes players and the Stanley Cup.
The most lifelike is Rod Brind'Amour. I'm not sure if that says something about the artists or the Hurricanes captain. Just kidding, Rod.
"They have a good crowd here, definitely," Jay Pandolfo said. "They've been playing well here toward the end of the year. We have to try to keep the crowd out of it."
That will not be easy. " |

For some reason Game 4 wont be though...seems asinine to me...like doing the ACC Tournament quarterfinals in HD, then the next day having the semifinals only available in SD.Just
