I'll talk to the pregnant woman and see what her coworkers are like before I decide. I made crib sheets in a non-baby print (white with small black and green paisleys), and I know the dad will like having something not pastel around, but I don't want to be around if her coworkers rage at the idea of using more adult fabrics for baby things. Some women are just crazy like that.

lol do you really think that was trolling? if the girl doesn't want to go to the party she shouldn't, especially if she is going to bring down the atmosphere. you are such a cunt. always.

You're assuming she'd be a drain on the atmosphere despite bringing a thoughtful gift

But no, you've been trolling this thread as long as it's existed

Enjoy your spawn, and accept that we will never have any

It's not smug to make decisions about what you want for your own life: grow up

Thanks

If calling me a cunt makes you feel better, feel free: I guess you're okay with your daughter being called one someday

Because you're truly classy to those you disagree with on a silly message board

I think we should all be able to act like adults, and have a level discussion in and Old School thread. I'm positive that's what the majority of people come in this section for...

^^she complained about having to go to said party. clearly she doesn't want to go. instead of being a drag and potentially ruining the mood, (if that's how she feels) she should just not go. This is common sense. in no way is this trolling in the slightest. it has nothing to do if she has kids or not.

I agree with Smath74 on this one. If you're going to attend a shower and bring a gift and then dare everyone to judge you, while doing all of the judging yourself, then don't go. It would be rude to do anything that would shift the focus off of the Mom-To-Be, and that would include not wanting to "be around" because "some women are crazy" like you suspect her coworkers might be.

It would be far kinder for you to give you thoughtful gift to the Mom/Dad and bow out of a party you wouldn't enjoy anyways. Because really -- baby showers aren't all that fun for the majority of people, but if it's just going to be plain torture for you, don't go.

Never got the impression lewoods didn't want to go, or would in any way be judge-y, just that she was a little wary about the potential guest list. Looks like the we've got the breeders leaping to their own conclusions about a couple generally non-committal statements.

Then you haven't paid attention to other posts she has on this site. She is among the perpetually persecuted. Quite frankly, judging by here posts here, she is probably a drag at any party even if the focus of the celebration doesn't go against her personal values.

Smath74 nailed this one. Just send a present if the couple is important to you and you can't get over yourself. Don't show up and be a drag on the gathering.

Maybe one day you'll be the kind of person who can participate in an event which isn't your cup of tea, but is important to someone else without whining. I think they call those people adults.

Just for discussions sake. Also highlights most of the reasons why I don't ask couples if/when they plan on having children.

When people ask you when you are going to have kids you should ask them when they are going to start getting mammograms or prostate exams.

I never ask couples if/when they are going to have a kid.

But if they have one kid...I'll ask when the next one is coming...or if they have two....I'll ask if they're "done".

I also laughed pretty hard at the end of this news story.

My husband and I are probably doing a disservice to society by not having kids given that we are both intelligent, well-educated, in good physical, mental, emotional and financial health, which is unlike the majority of people who are procreating.

So, how many kids do you have goalielax, and why are they so amazing?

That video is funny. Although those opinions are found mostly in dudes. The majority of females find babies cute.

And obviously...if you have kids...you don't really relate to it anymore.

^^haha can't laugh at yourself, can we? i'm all for the back and forth about this stuff and can laugh at both sides. but the video wasn't really funny. sorry

jesus christ - y'all way too defensive of a bad youtube video.

the truth is, if you're friends with someone who openly talks about baby shit, you should stop being friends with them. not because they have a baby. but because they're socially inept and embarrassing

From what I've gathered, all of that stuff is very interesting if it's your kid. Otherwise, nobody else really cares all that much. If you have children of the same age it's all well and good to talk about, but it's a completely useless conversation with someone who doesn't have kids, we have no frame of reference.

It's really about the same as people who are vegan or do crossfit. We get it, big part of your life, I don't give a shit. Let's talk about shared interests or experiences. Save the developmental talk for your friends who have similarly aged kids.

If I can kill it by dropping it, then you are really dumb to try to get me to hold it. Babies, rabbits, etc. should be kept away from me. At least the rabbits can be cooked, but babies can not. I don't babysit, but if I see a really good deal on diapers or baby food I will get them for my friend with a kid and that is the understanding we have.

I'm seriously starting to rethink my lifelong intention to have kids

For one thing, I'm 33 and single

But also, I really, really value sleep, and freedom, and a quiet living space...and apparently babies annihilate all these things. I guess I'm hoping that a 4-7 year old wouldn't be quite so loud and inconvenient as a baby. Shrug. Anyway, it's a moot point b/c I have nobody to have kids with right now, but I'm still giving the matter some serious thought.
