Guys currently on roster that will probably be drafted when they're done playing at NC State: Offense: Dayes, Samuels, Hines, Adams Defense: Chubb, Roseboro, Jones, and Hill.
Obviously we have some other younger guys that could end up blowing up, but those guys seem to be trending towards getting drafted. Our DL is really good. I think Street had the potential, just needs to anchor down at one position and improve. 5/26/2016 8:54:44 AM |

^^^How about in this year's draft though? I just can't imagine how embarrassing it would be if we had zero players drafted. I mean we're not a football school so it wouldn't be that bad, but still. It would be pretty pathetic. 5/26/2016 3:28:40 PM |

Dayes will more than likely get drafted if he can stay healthy this year, he's put up really good numbers the last 2 years.
We don't have a ton of SRs that are starting that have a shot to get drafted. Dayes, Tocho, and Wright?
We'll have some Jrs and RS-Jrs that might have shot to get drafted if they go early, but just depends on how their seasons go, esp. some of our DL. 5/26/2016 8:53:32 PM |

Yeah, Dayes seems like a 4th-5th round pick, assuming he keeps up his productivity this coming season and stays healthy.
But overall, I just think it would be so embarrassing to not have a single player drafted in a whole 7-round ~250 pick draft including compensatory picks. I mean I would just quit caring about football if we sucked THAT bad at producing talent. 5/26/2016 11:09:12 PM |

I think his point is if you claim to be a fan of a football school and your school has no draft picks, it would be embarrassing enough that you probably wouldn't go on another schools message boards to talk shit, especially if that school isn't a football school but still had 3 draft picks. 5/26/2016 11:16:58 PM |

Lets be honest, Tennessee is definitely the dominant force in women's basketball at this point, and has essentially morphed into a WBB school, while putting football and MBB on the back burner. Thats pretty cool and progressive of them to make that evolution IMO.
Jaybee should be proud instead of trolling all the time.

Quote : | "HINES IS NOW TWO-SPORT ALL-AMERICAN Pack’s all-purpose player earned honors last night with 4x100 meter relay
Running back/wide receiver/kick returner Nyheim Hines could be considered the first two-sport All-American in the history of the Wolfpack football program. The rising sophomore was a member of the NC State 4x100 meter relay squad that earned All-America honors last night at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon. Hines was also a 2015 Freshman All-American on the gridiron according to Athlon and 247Sports.com after a season that saw him post the fourth-highest kickoff return total in school history (920). The Garner native now posts the second-best career kickoff return average in school history with a 26.3 mark. He tallied 169 yards in the contest with Louisville in 2015, the fifth-highest single-game total in school history and led the team with 109.2 all-purpose yards per game.
On the track, Hines made the All-ACC team in the 60m dash and 100m dash and was an ACC Champion in the 4x100. The freshman also holds a top-10 mark in school history in the 60m dash(6.74) and his squad's 4x100 time(39.11) ranks second in school history." |

pretty solid write up on the 2016 season here
http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2016/6/15/11927502/nc-state-football-2016-preview-schedule-roster
a couple of interesting notes
Quote : | "Only about 50.7 percent of the teams in the S&P+ database have improved on their previous year's rating. Of these 622 teams, only 232 improved again the next year. Only 68 improved for a third straight year, 19 for a fourth, and two (2006-10 Arizona and 2007-11 Temple) for a fifth.
If we use the combined F/+ rankings, it's nearly the same: 618 teams have improved, 242 twice, 75 three times, 18 four times, three five times (2008-12 Notre Dame, 2009-13 Arizona State, 2009-13 North Texas).
We always think of program building as a linear phenomenon: You improve, then you improve again, then you improve some more. That almost never happens. There are potholes and unexpected impediments. This is a zero-sum universe, and there are more good coaches than there are opportunities to improve.
This is a long way of saying NC State is at a crossroads. Three years in, head coach Dave Doeren has yet to actually beat a power conference team that finished with a winning record. The Wolfpack have also only lost to one team with a losing record. That's a good way of assuring your ratings are solid while also giving your fanbase very little to get excited about." |
Quote : | "The Wolfpack have improved for four straight years per S&P+ and for two straight per F/+. The first two years of "improvement" were marginal at best -- State went from a minus-4.1 S&P+ rating in 2011 (87th in FBS) to minus-3.4 in 2012 (76th) to minus-2.0 in 2013 (78th) -- and an improved schedule meant the win total actually declined in this period.
State has made up a ton of ground in the last two years, however. The Wolfpack surged from 90th in Off. S&P+ to 43rd in 2014 and 30th in 2015, and the defense went from 64th to 45th last year as well. The result: a leap to 50th overall in 2014 (with an 8-5 record), then another one to 36th (7-6) in 2015." |
Quote : | "I guess there are two ways to look at NC State's schedule. Going by S&P+ projections, you're looking at three likely wins, four likely losses, and five relative tossups with win probability between 37 and 64 percent. That suggests something in the neighborhood of six wins and a third straight bowl appearance -- not great, but not terrible.
Then there's the NC State-centric way of looking at the schedule. The Wolfpack begin with four teams projected 74th or worse before taking on eight straight projected top-50 opponents. Recent trends suggest a 4-0 start followed by eight straight losses.
This is a "put up or shut up" kind of year. The Wolfpack have definitely improved but don't have any big wins to show for it, and now they face life with a new quarterback and an increasingly tricky schedule. If they don't start beating decent teams soon, they'll be looking for a new coach. Doeren has not yet cleared the bar set by O'Brien." |
obviously a lot of this stuff we already knew as state fans - although the stats and figures reinforce a lot of things. but the short of it - we could probably be a better overall team again this year but it's unlikely we see much improvement in the win column which p frustrating.6/15/2016 11:15:32 AM |

expectations by whom? i think vegas has our o/u win total at 6. that article seems to project us at 6 or 7 wins. it is frustrating. but it's a harder schedule this year. and 7 wins would be pretty solid with a new qb, new OC, and tougher schedule. this year's team should be better, imo, than any of DD's previous teams here (low bar, really). but due to the schedule, it may not show up much in the win column.
also found this note on adding Finley at QB to be fairly interesting perspective.
Quote : | "The 2015 Drinkwitz offense played at one of the nation's fastest tempos and took a pass-first approach. That's a scary proposition when combined with a new starting quarterback, but after Jalan McClendon and Jakobi Meyers battled for the starting role in spring ball, Drinkwitz brought in a ringer: Ryan Finley, a BSU graduate transfer who began 2015 as the starter before getting hurt.
Finley should set a nice baseline. McClendon is a better-touted recruit and very much looks the part, but if he's struggling to find his rhythm in the new offense, Drinkwitz will at least know that he's got Finley to whip the ball from sideline to sideline effectively. He made some judgement errors last year, taking six sacks and throwing four picks in just 76 pass attempts, but he was only a sophomore and has two years of eligibility to figure things out." |
i didn't realize boise was so fast paced last year. so simply adding a guy that is somewhat familiar with that should be nice. but as others have said, i think it would be somewhat disappointing if he's the starter over McLendon or Meyers.6/15/2016 11:25:28 AM |
