I feel like every school that landed a 5* kid in the past 5 years has clinched assholes right now because this shit is about to get real.
Nike and Adidas were involved, guessing they weren't just bidding between the 2 of them without UA involved. They already expect the 10 implicated to roll over on others for lesser charges. Also reports they have other recruits/commits that they have proof took money and haven't released most of that information.
This is going to be a roller coaster and it's "expected" that a lot of other schools are about to get caught in the fallout.
I know UCLA and NC State are being thrown around a lot because of the Adidas affiliation, so I wouldn't start talking too much shit just yet. Wouldn't surprise me at all if Gott was involved, would just be sad given our lack of success. 9/27/2017 2:02:58 PM |

My point was that it would be the ultimate NC State Shit if UNC is able to get away with a vast cheating empire and NC State somehow got dinged for recruiting violations when we haven't even won anything worth a damn. KK leaving for Louisville hadn't even crossed my mind, and even if he did, it's not like we'd be losing a HOF coach or anything. He's got a lot of upside, but let's not get crazy about him yet.
As others have pointed out, these charges aren't exclusive to Adidas schools, and they're only going back to last year.
I think NC will be just fine, kinda like UNC probably will be too...

My question is, say you get one of these guys to flip, how much information would they even have on other bribery operations? Are these brands so hyper competitive that they'd risk felony charges to bribe players while simultaneously being so lazy to use the same people/networks? 9/27/2017 3:01:28 PM |
LudaChris All American 7946 Posts user info edit post |
I don't think it's that they're competitive, I think it's just that they knew it was the nature of the beast.
Hodge even tweeted that our of HS he got offered "the world" by schools but still signed with NC State who he says offered him "nothing".
This isn't a new thing, it's just now being investigated and brought to light. Michael Beasley said something similar that this shit has been going on for a long time. This is why most speculate that this isn't going to stop with Adidas or the current schools listed, it's likely to challenge the entire angle of amateurism of the NCAA. 9/27/2017 3:09:06 PM |

for those concerned about us/DSJ/etc...i read where DSJ's dad was a coach or helped coach an adidas AAU team. so it would seem he was receiving legal compensation from adidas, right? nothing illegal about that. i'm sure some shady stuff went on, but his recruitment isn't one that seems to exactly fit in this mold. again...nothing would shock me, i'm not naiive enough to think we're squeaky clean. i'm sure our coaches knew the deal. it's probably no secret to any coach that's been in major college athletics for any amount of time. 9/27/2017 4:29:24 PM |

Pitino appears to be directly implicated. He seems to be Coach-2 in the investigation around Brian Bowen. Appears that he was directly involved in the payment process to Bowen's family. If so, that act and the flat-out lie he stated the other day pretty much destroy any legacy he had. 9/28/2017 1:39:41 PM |

^^ Pitino's statement earlier this year, quoted for this thread:
Quote : | "“We got lucky on this one. I had an AAU director call me and ask me if I’d be interested in a great player. I saw him against another great player from Indiana. I said, ‘Yeah, I’d be really interested.’ They had to come in unofficially, pay for their hotel, pay for their meals. We spent zero dollars recruiting a five-star athlete who I loved when I saw him play. In my 40 years of coaching, this is the luckiest I’ve been.”" |
Contrast that to this excerpt from the FBI report:
Quote : | "Augustine told the group that he expected Adidas to cover the payments because "no one swings a bigger [dick] than [Pitino]" at Adidas, and all the coach had to do "is pick up the phone and call somebody [and say], 'These are my guys, they're taking care of us.'"" |
