We're not getting Gregg Marshall, barring some hell-freezing pig-flying crazy shit. No reason for him to leave his 3 mill a year at WSU.

UNLESSSSS by chance, someone can use his massive ego against him. Convince him he'll never be seen as an elite, all-time great if he's coaching at a school like Wichita State. They play a soft schedule, has no history, zero national appeal, and very low-level of NBA talent being outsourced.

I think playing into Marshall's hyper-competitive, maniacal side is the only way to get him. He legitimately seems like a guy who'd love to go head to head with Roy, K, Pittino every night. Battle of the egos.

And even if turns us down (he will), we can just take solace in the fact that he's a time bomb ready to blow his whole career off the map. I mean, who gets ejected from an exhibition game after being restrained by your own players (over what was basically a foul call)?

Look at our last search when we hired Gott. The top names we talked to were Sean Miller(Xavier), Gregg Marshall(Wichita State), Shaka Smart(VCU), and Mark Gottfried(Alabama). Perhaps "P5" should have been a little more specific to "larger" or "established" programs. I'd expect she's going to be willing to overlook the fact that Wichita State is in the MVC when Marshall has made the Final Four with them, same with Shaka at VCU.

Still goes back to I think Keatts is further down her list than most assume simply because he's only been a HC for a few seasons and only at UNCW. Obviously if he takes them to the Final Four this year, I'm sure that would move him well up her list, but I don't think anyone expects that.

Uh yeah, perhaps. P5 means power 5 conferences aka ACC, Big 10, Pac 12, SEC, Big 12 and (used to be) Big east. None of those coaches, save for Gottfried who was a last-ditch effort, were P5 coaches. And thankfully most of the common candidates this go round aren't either.

Any P5 coach worth a damn isn't going to leave their job to come coach us. And any coach who would leave their P5 job (or was already fired from a P5 job) to come coach at State likely isn't worth a damn. I'd rather take our chances with someone on the pretty long list of up and comers from mid-major conferences. They tend to have a better track record of working out.

Looks like the NBA is putting in effort to change the minimum draft age to 20. With all the one and dones, this might change the scope of basketball a bit in the college system.

The article I just read brought up the college baseball draft rule. Player's association wants the rule changed back to 18, so if the NBA wants it changed to 20 they could probably meet a compromise where a player can enter at 18 but if they decide to enroll at a college they won't be eligible again until 2 more years.

The NBA/NCAA should just let players go pro right out of high school if they want. Otherwise we have a bunch of players that are only in college because they are being forced to, not because they intend to earn a degree or care about getting an education. It's a competition to get the best players that don't want to be there for as long as they have to be there. Yeah it'll make college ball a little more boring but what's the point of making them be there if they don't want to be there other than to make $?

I'm not sure if the NIT would want a lame duck led team nor I'm not sure Yow would want the season to continue any longer than it has to. The former because it's a weird narrative to have in th tournament and the latter because it keeps a lid on how much coaching search news there will be.
