I went to the wolves den quite a few times, normally only when it was too late to go anywhere else on campus and I coulnd't afford to spend real money.

I'm assuming you have never actually had a job in NC or just avoided reading that big NC employment laws billboard that is posted in every break room across the state. It clearly states that the employer has to make up the difference between the 2.xx and minimum wage if tips don't cut it.

Good waitresses will make more than minimum wage because of tips. But I have no sympathy for waitresses/waiters bitching how little they get paid and how I should leave them a tip merely because they graced me with their presence a couple of times. Tip is supposed to be earned. America has turned it into a hidden fee on top of the price of your food.

That's probably because sadlacks is on the corner next to a bodega in an area frequented by college kids and down the road from both a middle class and below neighborhood sprinkled with trap houses and an unsupervised park where nightly illicit activity occurs

Not to mention the plasma center where these elements frequently go to make money

None of it is sadlacks fault and certainly not worth bulldozing them over

I agree with you. I usually do leave a good tip. I just hate the attitude that waitresses are poor therefore I should give me 20% regardless of if they suck at being a waitress or not.

Then on the flip side I am amazed and how much some servers make. Go to a nice restaurant where the table tabs average $1000+ a night. One server might have 5-8 of those tables a night.

Yeah I tip but don't like feeling socially obligated to even for mediocre bad service. Why is being a waiter or waitress the only time you're expected to give a shit about what somebody else makes? You working in an industry where they can short you isn't my problem.

I worked at Left Right Wings when I was in college for a bit and it was actually very clean. The Koreans who owned it took very good care of it but weren't the best decorators. The area surrounding it was horrifying though. One day a bum I politely asked to leave went out back and took a dump in our mop bucket. I'm not sure if he was trying to get back at me or just didn't know where the fuck he was. Pretty sure it was the latter. I think it is closed now.

Not trying to hijack this into a tipping thread (thx Begonias) but I will say that no one in their right mind is going to get a job waiting tables expecting only minimum wage or a little above, so the fact that the employer has to make it up is fairly immaterial. There are easier ways to make minimum wage, like fast food or retail. So if your server is garbage, then yes, (don't) tip accordingly. But don't short the good ones either. That's all I'm sayin'.

I guess I'm thinking Charlotte. Probably not average but when I go to dinner and see a bunch of 4+ tables of guys in business/client meetings there for 3 hours draining multiple bottles of wine and continuously ordering appetizers tabs easily get over $1000. Your alcohol tab alone can be that at a place with a decent wine list. I just can't imagine how much the servers make. I mean they'd only need 2 tables a night to make a few hundred dollars.

well, people who run up extravagant tabs can bitch out on the tip just as much as anyone else, especially if popping the cork too many times sneaks up on them. though hopefully if their business is picking up the tab they don't. but plenty of rich people get to high places by walking on the backs of others, don't think it stops once they're up there.

An "extravagant tab" is relative. A $50 dinner might be a lot for one person while a $500 dinner might be pocket change for someone else. I guess that's where the % of total comes into place.
