I hate to be the one to bring ants to the picnic, but I don't think we will experience any palpable shifts to the status quo until something truly horrific happens that affects the vast majority of people. It's very easy for the average person to just change the channel or ignore their newsfeed on Facebook when this type of 'ugly' stuff come up, because those are the same types of people who either didn't vote at all in the election, held their noses and voted Trump because they thought they'd get a bigger refund on their income taxes, or they voted against Hillary because they wanted it all to crash and burn or entertain them like a reality TV show. Mass shootings happen regularly here, and "small" level terror attacks popping up all over Europe haven't changed the status quo one bit, and yet people seem to think that "organizing" or "taking firm stances" will bring us closer together? Nah. 8/15/2017 8:55:18 PM |

^^ I don't think you're wrong. But we're inching closer to that horrific event/series of events. And these guys are obsessed with Timothy McVeigh. And of course, the only reason why Charlottesville wasn't worse is because he didn't know there was another car to stop his from running over more people
But none of the acts you mentioned ever had the approval of the president. These people were just given the green light to commit more of these acts without repercussion. THAT'S the terrifying part. Any future protests for leftist causes (occupy, BLM, Dakota Access Pipeline, Daca, Women's Marches, Muslim Ban protests, Black Churches, Muslim Mosques, etc) are now open targets for white nationalist terrorism

^^I'm only 32 years old, but I can count the number of incidents where I feared for both my immediate and long term safety in the United States on one hand. The first was the OKC bombing, the second was 9/11, the third was when I was in high school and the DC sniper shootings were taking place so close to my hometown, and the latest was the day that Donald Trump got elected.
^ TBF, the green light was given way before Trump even won. The fact that Trump even had a chance in the first place should have been a HUGE wake up call to everyone to not be complacent or naive. NOPE. Pussy grabber beat Crooked Hillary bigly!!1

Previous administrations weren't comprised of a bankrupt narcissistic reality TV show host and a cabinet filled will the lowest common denominator of Wall Street slime ball cronies.
I loathed George W. Bush, but I wouldn't think twice about re-electing for a third term over Trump.
I guess I'm out of reasons to be optimistic at this point, because I just can't picture a lightbulb going off in America's collective mind without a devastating economic collapse or widespread and obtrusive bloodshed needed flip the on switch [/dramatic] 8/15/2017 9:27:43 PM |

Quote : | "This guy nails it [quote]One thing I like about Trump, and that the capitalists hate about him, is the fact that Trump is often too dumb to lie. Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying he's honest. He lies all the time. Constantly. But on open secrets of how the wealthy capitalists rule, Trump lets the cat out of the bag. A few examples are in order.
Of course the bourgeoisie hires cops to brutalize, murder, and oppress the multiracial working class, but you're not supposed to get the cheers of cops by asking cops to be more brutal.
Of course the fossil fuel capitalists are in charge of U.S. foreign policy, but you don't put the head of Exxon Mobile in charge of the State Department to carry out regime change in Venezuela.
Of course the fossil fuel capitalists have garnered bipartisan unity in doing nothing about global warming, but you don't advertise it by pulling out of the Paris Accord's facade that let them pretend they were doing something.
Of course it has been a major drive of both ruling capitalist parties to gut secular public education and privatize it for capitalist profit, but you don't put a leading capitalist benefiting from these attacks on our children in charge of education.
Off course the self-centered psychopathic scumbags of the wealthy capitalist class use their ill-gotten wealth and power to sexually abuse women, but you're not supposed to brag about it.
The wealthy ruling capitalist class also hates Trump for the rare good things he does or says, like pulling out of the TPP and speaking of better relations with Russia, but their other fundamental problem with Trump is that he is often too dumb to lie.
Everyone hates Trump, but the Democrats are too corrupted by their corporate donors to offer a meaningful alternative. In California, Democrats bought off by the insurance industry just killed a Medicare for all bill. Medicare for all is the only real solution to problems like 45,000 people dying per year in the United States due to a lack of medical care. Medicare for all is also the solution to the insanely high and rapidly rising prices charged for health insurance by the blood sucking insurance capitalists.
The Democrats ran a corporate shill for president, more pro-war than Trump, opposed to a $15 an hour minimum wage and supporter of fracking. For vice president she chose an anti-union running mate supporting union busting so-called "right to work" laws.
The Democrats couldn't win against the most hated candidate in U.S. history because they had absolutely nothing to offer except the fact that their candidate wasn't Trump. The Democrat's solution? Lie about it. Just blame Russia. Yet, even if the leaked emails were actually, as their unsubstantiated conspiracy theory claims, hacked by Russia, that wouldn't change the fact that the leaked emails exposed the truth about Clinton and the Democrats. The leaked emails, among other things, exposed Hillary Clinton telling Wall Street bankers not to worry about what she says on the campaign trail. Instead, she had two policies, the ones she tells the public, and the real policies she shares with them. No matter who leaked the emails, and there is both zero evidence it was Russia and strong evidence that it was a whistle blowing DNC insider, but no matter who leaked those emails, they deserve a big thank you for letting the cat out of the bag on who the Democratic Party really represents." |
Of course the us has been a racist country since its inception that still propogates systemic racism, but you don't let nazis assemble in the streets. The image of inclusion must be upheld even as racial inequality continues to grow. Its only image that matters.8/16/2017 3:09:50 AM |

Perhaps, the simplest reason is the most likely. Donald Trump sympathizes with white supremacists because he believes that they have superior genes and are a master race (as he has publicly stated time and again about himself and his German genes).
It's not a smokescreen. It's not politics. It's not strategy. It is who he is and what he believes. 8/16/2017 9:07:23 AM |

I think Trump could resign under these circumstances.
He cant stand the job anymore. We know he doesn't like it.
He cant stand the pressure.
He must protect his son and/or son in law from charges. Resigning would be specifically to result in that protection.
The evidence from the Mueller report starts to become overwhelming. Before its public?
Hes lost all ability to push his agenda.
Republicans and Congress start to do their own thing without looking to the President for any support. 8/18/2017 10:52:32 AM |

He was on his way out anyway, but the timing of this is so predictable. It's basically a ploy to distract everyone from Charlottesville by getting rid of the most powerful person standing in his way who happens to have Alt-right ties. It gives Trump a bit of plausible deniability about endorsing KKK/Nazi rhetoric at the time he probably needs it the most. 8/18/2017 1:25:12 PM |

trump has brought more progress in 8 months than the totality of american history. its 2017confederates are finally losing grip on the south and out west, people are questioning the legacy of the catholic spanish conquests
at this rate. we might end segregation by 2024. dare i dream.
progress on all fronts actually:
the left had been happy bombing the shit out of muslims but since trump, they have decided they want to be neighbors with the same people they made into refugees.
under obama, americans were happy to deport millions and even wanted a wall but only now they are speaking out paasionately against it

Before and during the campaign season, Trump regularly criticized Obama for costing the American taxpayer money every time he took a trip, and Trump the candidate repeatedly called for belt-tightening across government agencies.
