^ right

^^ career stats don't really do Nene justice as his seasons were mired with cancer and injuries early on.
His stats the last three years have been great.

Not counting this year. He obviously has fallen off big time this year

the 49th post

top 8 TS% from 2 years ago

Tyson Chandler .697
Brian Cardinal .672
Shaquille O'Neal .659
Nene .657
DeAndre Jordan .648
Ronny Turiaf .649
Ryan Hollins .642
Chris Andersen .636

I guess Spaz Hollins is a better player than Amare too

gotta love a stat called true SHOOTING percentage thats full of a bunch of guys that shoot 65% from the line

and as jbrick pointed out earlier, Nene doesn't "only" score 15 points a game...since in no season of his career has he ever averaged that many ppg

ftr, i'd rather have Nene on my fantasy team, but i'm pretty sure we're talking about real basketball

Nene hurt his knee too, and missed the whole 05 season

in fact, Nene didn't play last night because he hurt his heel

i'm not about to criticize a man for having medical conditions in his junk

I'm not trying to compare them for their full career anyway. Amare was definitely a stud early on.

The comparison was for last season initially.

They've both dropped off a ton this season but Nene is still marginally productive while amare is not

For the record yes, Nene is better than Amare.

It's really weird that you would argue that even...

this is by far the best post of the thread though, when Bonnell turned the profanity filter off in his article quoting Larry Brown saying "God damn"

I like it Larry! And anyone who has a problem with Coach Brown's language has probably never played an organized sport past the age of 12 or listened to a locker room speech. He's trying to get our team motivated to win, and if he happens to drop a couple curse words who the hell cares. Get em Cats!

I welcome the addition of profanity to this blog. Lets spice it up a little, Bonnell, you bald fuck!

Derek-

Were you offended that the first Hornets coach was named Dick Harter. Some of the boys used to call him Dick Harder. If in the late 80's Rick had written, "Dave Hoppen was a great part of them team, but you will never see another Dick Harter." would you have been offended. Don't be such a shithead.""

This TS% crap isn't a good comparison because they have different games and because Amare has been the focus of opposing team's defense for the majority of his career. Nene has gotten easy buckets for most of his career while teams chased Carmelo around (how the fuck did he even get brought in to this argument anyways??).

Amare also takes jumpshots. Although he's not a dead-eye shooter, he's near the top for PFs...but of course it's going to lower his FG%.

Amare played with Steve Nash, one of inarguably the top five point guards of our generation. He got easy buckets on a nightly basis. Nene's spent most of his career playing with shoot first guards like Billups and Iverson.

And shooting jumpshots is not a point in Amare's favor. Anyone can shoot a jumpshot. Big men are valuable because they generally get higher percentage shots. By shooting so many jumpers, Amare is negating that advantage. With the way he plays, he may as well be 6'6".

I didn't use it as a point in his favor, I used it to explain why he isn't shooting 60%. I'm not disagreeing with you on that point.

Amare had to develop a jump shot because teams would collapse and double team him on Phoenix's pick and roll. They left him open to take the 18-20ft jumper, so he worked on it, now he can hit it with relative consistency. Same thing happened with KG as he got older...and many other great PFs (Duncan and Malone). Like I said, he has a different game than Nene.

He can still take it hard to the rim. He can also fall in love with the easy mid-range jumper...which can be bad at times.

Quote :
"Amare played with Steve Nash"

He also averaged 20 and 9 with fucking Marbury.

He's also still a better player than Nene. Who's athletic, big, and has a decent inside game. Nothing more. And he's playing with two pretty solid point guards this year in Lawson and Miller and is having one of his worst years (not exactly pass-first Nash type pgs...but better than Billups and AI).

Just shows you how overrated amare and carmelo are. Chandler is the star of that team and its not close

I don't know about all that. Chandler's game is pretty limited. Dude shoots like 70% from the field because all he does is get dunks and put backs. If you have a big who can force him off the block he's not a threat to score. If he ever develops a shot from 6 ft.+ out he'll produce more than 12 points a game. Although at this point in his career I think he just is what he is, a slightly above average 7 footer.

Melo is a black hole for the ball, dude is a scorer and nothing else, which is why it's a mystery to me that they went out and got Amare too. Dantoni needs to figure out a way to put these pieces together, I mean the Knicks have plenty of talent to be the 4 seed in the East. They might be better off dropping one of these guys and going with a Lin, Fields/Shumpert/Walker, Chandler, Stoudamire, and some decent small forward. Dump Melo and either Bibby or Davis and roll with the team you've got plus a new small forward.

Amare is the one who sucks this year not melo.

It's the nba, coaches barely matter.

If you don't think Tyson chandler is a star you are crazy. He made bynum look like a bitch last night and he dominated the lakers frontcourt .

The lakers look finished, they suck offensively and Kobe has lost his mind this year

Knicks are all of a sudden the deepest, most complete team in the NBA.

PG
Lin
Baron Davis

Mike Bibby

SG
Landry Fields
JR Smith
Iman Shumpert

SF
Melo
Bill Walker
Novak

PF
Amare

They have 3 all-star quality guys and 5 starting quality guys. They basically have 8 starters. and three really good bench players.

There are only 4-5 superstars in this league, and none of them play for the Knicks. The Heat are still the most stacked team in the league.

Melo is just as good a scorer as Wade or anyone and Amare is a 25 and 8 guy in this system once they start clicking. Chandler is much more of an impact than Bosh and the Heat have no PG and fewer role players.

Right now the Heat are a better team but lets give the Knicks a few months to gel and we'll see their superior overall talent start to show.

But does Lin get those calls? I'm not sure but I think since surfacing, Lin is leading the NBA in points and assists. I don't think anyone has ever played at this level before but I could be wrong. If we based MVP on the last 8 games or so, he'd be the winner. I don't think it will continue at this level, but he's certainly a high level pg.

Before we looked at the knicks as a team that could be a ton of trouble but were just missing a serviceable pg. Now they have created one of the best out of thin air. When Melo returns they are the favorite to win it all imho.

LeBron is having one of the best seasons in NBA history. The only reason he won't win it is because of the whole "Anyone but LeBron" mentality. Also, only 1 starting PG has a worse A/TO than Lin, and that is true SG Russell Westbrick

Turnovers don't matter when you win, especially when your great scorer is injured. Lin took the worst roster in the NBA (while amare was out) and won games and you're going to talk about an analytical ratio?

First off, that is not the worst roster. And turnovers do matter, because if you think Miami won't turn those turnovers into points you are very wrong. I understand that you're probably a Knicks fan, and thus delusional by nature, but come on.
