The best part of TWW soccer talk is how jealous you are of Liverpool's coach. HILARIOUS.

also, I remember you telling us Van Gaal turned the ship around and was playing proper bloody good football and the rest of us morons were haters with sour grapes afraid to admit Mighty United were on their way back on top, just needed a few $100 million worth of new players to add onto the brilliant new style of attacking football LVG was implementing...

lmao. Revisionist history everywhere. Go back to the old thread and get those quotes. I have criticized Van Gaal a lot in the past and blamed him directly for his management faults.

I am not surprised by your reaction specifically because you have probably watched one United match all season and that was the performance at Anfield. I have also put the blame on Mourinho when warranted (Man City & Chelsea) but as I said over the last 5 matches the team has played excellent football (barring Fenerbache) but haven't had the results to show for it. Then again experts like you read articles that love to criticize us and think you know it all.

Also jealous of liverpool manager. Yes so jealous of the massive amounts of trophies he has won. Don't confuse admiration and respect with jealousy. United fans by and large have more humility and respect for good football than you lot could ever credit Sir Alex's teams. What was the age old charge against Sir Alex? He always cheated. Now that's proper jealousy.

All from 2015

Quote :
"Sour grapes indeed. So Liverpool did amazingly well last year and the premier league didn't suck right? The double standard is hilarious.

Van Gaal's record against the top 6 speaks for itself, this also isn't because the top 6 is supposedly "weaker." Chelsea and Arsenal are certainly stronger. City is weaker sure. United aren't miles away from the top, United and Van Gaal are in 4th place only because we struggled to beat weaker teams on compact pitches away from home. That is a learning curve problem, not a squad problem.

The only difference is liverpool are worse. So the argument could be made that the only reason that pool challenged for the title last year is because arsenal and chelsea were weaker and united were worse. You see the double standard now?

You clearly haven't seen how this team has played, I would imagine dismantling pool twice this year would have showed you something at least. United is playing a completely different system in decades. Van Gaal came in with an even bigger job at hand than Moyes had. He cut the fat and put in a completely new style of play.

Let's also not forget he was at the World Cup until the last week of the tournament. Meaning United's preseason was effected a lot. If United gets the job done against Leicester, Burnley, Sunderland, and West Brom away from home and Swansea at home we are sitting at 77 points. 3 away from Chelsea. Those results all happened in the first two months of the season. I am not even counting the losses against everton and Southampton, dropped points against villa and west ham. They happen but the 4 results mentioned earlier should have been wins.

The gulf between Chelsea and United isn't huge, United is struggling with the same problems that plagued Chelsea last year. Defensively the team has gotten progressively better. Let's also not forget the goalkeeper is part of the defense, its his job to save us points. United didn't invest 18 million and stick with him when he started terribly for nothing.

Quote :
"^ you haven't seen United play then. Hoofball? lol. Yes that is one facet of United's attacking outlet, it isn't the overall strategy.

When Carrick isn't around to supply the ball forward on the ground then yes the direct route become more relevant. I wouldn't confuse the United performance in the first half of the season to the last 3 months. The movement has been so much better.

Also compared to last year and even under Sir Alex (during his last two years) yes this football is much better. It is also in no means a finished product just yet, just glimpses of what we are capable of once the right players are in place.

If you don't see it then that is your opinion, probably never going to change it so I am not going to bother pulling up statistics that highlight what I am saying but they are definitely out there. Tottenham, Man City, and the first half of the liverpool match are perfect examples of how United dominated possession, found overlaps in attack, and negated the oppositions midfield. City especially where the team had a disciplined shape, held a high line, and transitioned with fluidity from defense to attack.

4/29/2015 9:21:28 PM"

Quote :
"I don't disagree with that point but there is a reason for the slow start United had. Sure Van Gaal had a 150 million to spend but that doesn't guarantee anything. He still had to contend with a short pre season, deals not getting done till the season started, and figuring out a new league with a new team that has a lot expectations.

These things take time and I have seen a consistent improvement in performances. Not to mention Van Gaal himself experimented a lot in the beginning and was hampered by a shit ton of injuries. "

Quote :
"If you don't believe the football Van Gaal has played since February is good then I really don't know what anyone has been watching. The best United squads were between 1995 - 2001 and then 2005 - 2009. Sharp, counter attacking football that exuded everything Sir Alex instilled. From 2010 to 2013 the football wasn't great but United got results."

Quote :
"Given more money to strengthen this team with at least 4 more signings in key positions. A better idea of how the premier league works and a clearer understanding of your teams strengths and weaknesses you don't think a manager like Van Gaal can replicated the quality this team has showcased, admittedly in a short time span? If United can grind out results while not performing with this team, enough to be in the top 4, you don't think this team can add more quality and continue to impress? "

Bravo. You find quotes from 2015 when we actually did finish in the top 4 and that too in April 2015 when we arguably hit the best form and month under LVG. I commend a great month and a march towards an eventually successful top 4 spot, I wonder why?

Lets put your cherrypicked quotes from a successful Van Gaal season in context with quotes from the following season:

What I said after United consistently showed improvement in 14-15 and towards April 2015:
Quote :
"These things take time and I have seen a consistent improvement in performances. Not to mention Van Gaal himself experimented a lot in the beginning and was hampered by a shit ton of injuries."

From December 2015 after a horrible run of games and when we regressed from the successes of the past year:
Quote :
"I really hope LVG turns it around, the retribution would be oh so hilarious from a United perspective. Almost as hilarious as the football we are playing right now."

Quote :
"I am glad the United board are backing the manager. Its better than knee jerk fans (myself included) calling for a managers head after a month of bad results."

Quote :
"When did I mention I was happy with the football played? In fact I have never seen us play more frustrating football but I can see what he is trying to do and what he is trying to implement. It isn't working and I have seen him make changes over the last few matches to get it there."

A question you specifically asked in relation to LVG's last year:
Quote :
"how many overall good performances have they had this season?"

My response:
Quote :
"Not enough. Which justifies the recent unrest. I highlighted a few up top. So now it is up to LVG to take that criticism and show what he can change in the next 2 months. I firmly believe the board will not sack him unless he fails to meet the absolute minimum expectation of finishing 4th. I also believe that just a 4th place finish and a continuation of his recent football will also lead to the board reevaluating in the summer. Pep still isn't confirmed to Man City and recent reports have suggested the board do not believe Giggs is ready till at least 2017. So for me I think the only way we replace LVG is if the results go awry or if Guardiola wants to come to United."

I don't hide the fact that I didn't want Mourinho to manage United but I am more than happy at everything he has done so far and for all of the criticism aimed at him I can see the team steadily improving in all facets of the game. As I have said we have played some amazing football in the last 5 or so matches (excluding Fenerbache) and I would even go so far to say it has been the best football I have seen us play consistently since Sir Alex left. So I am more than happy to wait and trust Mourinho.

I am disappointed the results haven't reflected how well we have played and Mourinho has gotten a few things wrong but he has also proven that he has changed his ways. He stays out of the press and isn't creating a fuss. The press hounded him over Mata. Hounded him over Mikhi. Hounded him over Basti. Hounded him over his record of youth. Look where we are now. I will let Mourinho do his talking on the pitch and wont' criticize him till he warrants it.

I am also loving how Mourinho has put some responsibility on the players. That is absolutely how it should be. The players were too coddled and developed an almost untouchable attitude until Mourinho came in. Rooney's marked improvement in the last month says as much too. Now go ahead and find some more quotes that paint me in a bad light. BTW this was my closing thought after last year:

Quote :
"I am happy for LVG and the FA Cup. Lingard scoring the winner was the cherry on top honestly. LVG gave us boring football but my god was it a lesson in humility and a resurgence of our values as a club. I will always thank LVG for that and I just hope Mou can build on it as opposed to ripping it apart."

So far Mourinho is doing admirably in rebuilding Manchester United.

We all knew LVG played hoofball and yet you convinced yourself otherwise. Now it's the same with Mou, United more or less look like shit with a solid roster and you're sucking his dick for doing worse than Moyes thru 13 games.

Their goals per game in the league is putrid. Relegation level stuff. It's comical when compared to the top quarter of the league.

Mourinho is a ticking time bomb. He will flip soon enough like he always does. If he doesn't win big within two years of taking a job he is of no worth.

Part of me is happy United sold their souls and took him..

Saved. This is going to make golden material when Mourinho wins us a title. As I said neither of you watch United games so your credibility is basically zero. Also I am surprised NyM410 watched the Arsenal v United match and still thinks we are playing relegation level stuff. Arsenal were playing like a league 1 team that match.

Keep reading your articles about United and Mourinho being past it. I am loving each and every bit of it. This team is going to go places with the talent we have and Mourinho is going to be called a cocky little cunt once he starts winning again. Hated, adored, but never ignored. Love it.

Quote :
"my dude, the whole point is you will defend anything United in spite of every other person in here thinking the opposite."

Yes just like the experts said Mata was sold, Rashford will be on loan, and Basti/Mikhi are on Mourinho's shitlist. Lmao. Aimorris did you agree with everyone when Klopp played "relegation level stuff" last year? Lol. Everyone and their mother is sleeping on this United side and I personally love it. Since you lot have obviously watched United so much under Moyes and LVG I love that you see the current United team and still think we are playing worse than under either of those two managers.

Its not about defending United, its about objectivity. Which none of you have or will ever have in regards to United. Unites is hated and so you will blindly and happily stay on that bandwagon until we win something, then it would just be dismissed as luck or cheating. Arsenal wins the FA cup and its hailed as a great achievement. United wins the FA Cup and no one wants to talk about it. I wonder why.

Missed it tbh. Was at State-Miami game.

I have been rightly criticized for claiming Arsenal have dominated games only to be unlucky and lose. Only one thing matters.

This is patently false. It was a relief to break the trophy drought but they are still routinely criticized for going out in the first knockout stage of the CL as well as failing to win the league. How have you not seen this? And winning the FA cup AND qualifying for the CL is a better season than your FA Cup season last year. Not even a real argument.

Oh I absolutely agree with you on that point and that is why it helps to have someone like Mourinho over someone like Wenger. Mourinho is a winner and I have confidence that the team and he will get it right and I have seen signs of that already. Aimorris keeps going on about league position(rightly so given Liverpool are doing so well) but our current league position doesn't reflect the level of football we are actually playing. It is absolutely hilarious that someone is criticizing United for the quality of football played when our quality has been the best I have seen in years. That alone gives me confidence that Mourinho will right this ship, especially given the funds he has available to him.

For Mourinho this is the perfect job. He has autonomy and financial backing. He will figure it out and I am seeing signs of it already. Liverpool fans can go on and on about stats and money but at the end of the day only one thing matters and that is trophies. So far all they have delivered is good football, not trophies.

I still just can't get over Chelsea being favorites. They didn't even seem like a Premier League side against Arsenal let alone favorites. It was really a pick your score type of game.

Separate thoughts but I see City winning this and Arsenal dropping points today. Top four is so level with points and GD..

Still don't get why he plays Lucas over Klavan. I thought Klavan looked solid in the few games to open the season.

[Edited on December 4, 2016 at 10:23 AM. Reason : yikes Karius. Liverpool, same as it ever was]

actually I'm not mad about this at all. Hilarious actually. You lot probably aren't even watching the same game I was. Klopp is clearly implementing a new solid defense that hasn't been seem since the likes of Rafa. Cut the dead weight, bring in new players. Sure we give up goals but it's the way we give up goals. Look where we are now. I'm thrilled with where the future of the defense is going.
