Seriously? Haha its a small world.
We have some caulking around the bottom of our shower that has gotten mildew underneath, and I've heard there's a more permanent thing other than caulk out there that they can use. Was going to see what that was and how much it was. 1/3/2014 3:08:41 PM |

yeah thinking back it wasn't you. dude straight up opened my room door... we were the only ones in that side of the suite that weekend and were making no noise. just drinking beer, eating pokey sticks, watching Dazed and Confused.

So, the long term tenants of a house that own that was built in 1903 are moving out at the end of the month. I have to decide if I want to take out a considerable loan to redo a lot in the house, including the removal of knob and tube, a kitchen and master bath reno, a central HVAC and new windows... And I have to decide how much of all this I'll be doing myself... 1/6/2014 2:35:33 PM |

one of my heat pumps gets stuck on defrost mode for hours at a time. it makes this horrible noise, and it's located in a weird spot where two exterior walls form an angle that essentially amplifies the sound for my neighbors' enjoyment.
replaced the defrosting board already, and that didn't fix it. It's 12 year old Ducane. from what I can tell, it's low grade builder level shit, and it's probably going to be cheaper over the long term to replace it.
i'll deal with the noise and wait til summer. the neighbor that it's bothering will probably die soon anyway. 1/8/2014 2:34:32 PM |

my wife actually looked into that home owner's insurance rate change and the proposed changes would actually lower my rate. we're in the inland portion of a coastal county (Pender), so essentially i pay the same rate as those with beachfront homes pay, but i'm much lower risk. 1/8/2014 9:02:07 PM |

My spigots froze; haven't noticed anything else. I'm hoping no pipes have been damaged... guess I'll find out when things thaw out. Time to buy some spigot covers and pipe insulation. Probably out of stock locally though... I should have bought this shit last fall when I was thinking about it.
questions: anyone have recommendations/etc. about dimmer & motion switches? Would like to put my dining room light on a dimmer and add motion sensors to a few lights in the house.

our spigots froze even with those covers haha. hard to seal against the siding. they were working yesterday afternoon when it got into the 40s. I didn't go into the crawl space to see if any of the pipes feeding the spigots were cracked but the pressure was fine at both spigots so if there was anything it would likely be a hairline crack vs a bust. 1/9/2014 9:15:01 AM |

Yeah. I was confused because I thought the same thing. Like, surely this unit has it. It's only 4 years old. But it wasn't registering on the thermostat, and the wire WAS seated, just not all the way, and apparently wasn't making a connection. 1/9/2014 9:43:25 AM |

This one time i'm glad the outdoor spigots are on the same meter as my irrigation system. it was turned off and flushed out a few months ago.
Sometimes it sucks not having outdoor water when I need to fill a bucket or some shit.
I think encapsulating the crawlspace also helped with the shit inside. no busted pipes for us. 1/9/2014 12:59:45 PM |

I haven't been able to test my spigots yet/and it's too damn cold to go inspecting pipes. The spigots have been frozen since whenever it got cold. I'll try again tonight since it's been warm today. Any recommendations for sealing up a door? Our back door has some obvious gaps where I can see it on part of the bottom and part of the top. We are going to use the door a lot to let the dogs in and out so I don't want it to make it a pain to use. 1/12/2014 8:54:29 AM |

We have a 12 pitch roof over most of the house...I've tried climbing on it, but I just don't feel comfortable going up too high. I still need to get a few more estimates, so I'll check out Mr. Otto tomorrow. Unfortunately, its more than a couple of shingles.
They don't make the swing set that we have anymore, and the nearest comparable set is 4K...previous owners must've shelled out some money for that thing. I hope insurance lets me get a like replacement. 1/13/2014 9:01:00 PM |

induction heats faster than gas, uses less energy, doesn't heat up the kitchen, is every bit as responsive/controllable, and is super easy to clean because food doesn't bake on and there aren't any nooks/crannies. the digital controls make replicating results extremely easy as well. that being said, had we not come across our range for ~65% off we probably would've ended up with a bluestar. there is, however, a lot more that can go wrong with an induction range, the need for magnetic cookware, and the inability to cook in the event of a power outage. however, having used both (my inlaws have a bluestar), i actually think induction is the way to go, assuming you get one that's adequately powerful. 1/14/2014 10:30:35 PM |

meh, I have a regular glass top and love it.
I'd do gas if I could afford the kind of stove I like and wanted another utility bill to pay.
