"You might have to eat your hat.

For Merge XX, the 3Ds flew in, Mag Fields came for their only gig in 18 months, and Spoon played a club entirely too small for them, among other things.

And Arcade Fire played the Carrboro Farmer's Market with the #1 record in the country."

Well, yeah true I should maybe not exaggerate my sureness. Definitely a historical possibility it could happen. I only say it won't because I know someone at Merge that, and while there were no specifics because no one wants to be a leak, my impression was that it wouldn't happen. But yeah, maybe they're a better liar than I think and I should hold off on the hat eating bets.

Alice in Chains just announced a (Wednesday) May 7th show at Memorial Hall. I'm expecting ticket prices similar to Weezer. Presale starts this Wednesday or Thursday at 10am

Saw NMH last night as well as a few months back in Athens.

"Untitled" from last night's show was my favorite moment of both shows.

I saw Juicy J and Project Pat on Friday night at the Lincoln.

I might have been the oldest person there.

It was all 18(maybe)-25 white kids.

That INCREDIBLY WELL-REHEARSED St. Vincent show was great, but I'm not sure the visuals made up for the lack of chaos.

Also, stepping into cued lights for solos seems antithetical to the way her solos are constructed and how they're placed into songs. An anti-solo with all the regular rock trimmings just becomes a regular rock solo.

She was very clearly working too hard in the Actor era when trying to sing, play, and do all of the things necessary to change guitar timbres via foot control. Now that all her switching is done by a keyboardist via MIDI/Ableton control, I think she's in danger of swinging too far the other way, and letting the "show" dominant her playing and singing as the tap dance had done before.

is it too easy to blame David Byrne?

It'd be too easy to blame David Byrne, but it'd also be ridiculous to say it's not a factor.

It was still a really good show.

The visuals in "Rattlesnake" (the opener) were great, but they slowly lost their luster over the course of the show. It never got tiresome, but I got the same impression as I did seeing NIN on the Fragile tour: this is all programmed to the point that there's no escape routes. That's a bit of a shame for someone who has such fits/spasms of creativity.

She did a solo version of "Strange Mercy" in the encore that was really beautiful. I wish the rest of the show had been more like that. Not necessarily solo/quiet, but a little more organic.

I can't imagine they're not. A surprisingly large number of friends have paid to go to this so I'm anxious for the reports. A Beverly Hills Cop poster is on their rider.

My wife (mahhhhhhwiiiiife) saw The Pizza Underground a few weeks ago. They played for longer than 8 minutes, but they were the worst band she's ever seen. Ever.

man or astroman were fucking incredible last night. at one point coco's theramin was on the whack, so he smacked it until it started working, then lit it on fire and pointed it at the crowd.

charlotte blows. weren't enough people there to appreciate it

^^ I appreciate it when big acts take really good acts on as support, but why would you book someone who writes and plays circles around you on tour as an opener?

Same problem happened with Future Islands and Titus Andronicus blowing Okkervil River off the stage every night.
