we really got the best of both worlds on sunday, Hansbrough got bloodied and a duke player is suspended for our game... not a starter, but still, it reduces their depth some...

i guess name is built into the rpi ratings too. we will turn the ball over too much with our lazy passes. when we play a team with good interior defense we rely heavily on great passing and perimeter play to win so when we play a team that has good interior defense and overplays the wings we lose. @unc maryland x2 and duke. the biggest headline coming off our win over unc was why didn't roy press.

Duke has a good resume. Definitely Top 30 and borderline Top 25 (especially since they have a good record against Top 50 teams but they are mostly lower end Top 50 teams), but the RPI is still a bit flawed. I made the same argument last year about the computer rankings for basketball (football is totally different).

The rankings take into account the 175-250 games strongly over the 250-336 games. The reality is that any team in the Top 75 will EASILY destroy the 175-250 teams 99.99% of the time they would the 250-336 teams. Duke does a good job scheduling no one lower than 250, whereas teams like us schedule some 250-336 teams. There isn't much difference in real life b/t those category of teams on the court but to the computers there is a huge difference.

If you watch a lot of basketball and come to the conclusion that Duke is a Top 10 team (like thier RPI) this year you are completely out of your mind..

I think this is the best case for us. We just need to play with intensity and use our strengths over their weaknesses. That is make sure Grant and Fells get the freedom to create against Duke's unathletic backcourt. With the threat of Atsur there they should get much more freedom to create. Neither team is particularly deep (Duke has 4 players average 30 minutes they said yesterday) so I'm not worried about getting run off the court or worn down by 40 minutes of pressing like I would be by GTech.

unathletic backcourt? paulus will be on atsur. grant and fells won't see him for the most part unlesss the lineup is them with horner costner and mccauley on the floor.

mccauley and grant won't be a factor. costner will have a favorable matchup when thomas isn't in the game and will lead state in scoring. fells and atsur are going to have to step up with huge games for state to win.

Atsur isn't terribly athletic but he is a smarter player at this point than Paulus.

Both Grant and Fells are more athletic than Scheyer by a wide margin.. but he is a smart player for a freshman. Whichever player Scheyer is on will have huge a matchup advantage.. it's just up to Atsur to get them the ball in the right places (i.e.- not in the corners where they can get trapped).

Obviously Nelson at the 3 is very athetic but the loss of Henderson really does hurt Duke. They lose their second most athletic/explosive player and a guy who always play hard and has the athleticism to be a nightmare..

I think Duke will probably end up winning by 2 or 3 in this one but I'll hold out on my prediction for now. I nailed the UNC-Duke game (well off by 1 point) so I'm feeling pretty good...

here we go again. every year people on the street talk about how dukes backcourt isn't athletic dating all the way back to duhon and ewing. paulus yes but nelson is insanely athletic and scheyer isn't the most athletic guy out there but you wouldn't call him unathletic.


and wtf are you talking about behind ncsu? fells and grant are two of the most athletic players in the nation.

then i realize its guns and he's a trickster anyway.
