at this point and time, no matter the evidence we come up with, you'll just claim they did it for some other reason.

Your argument in itself is dubious. "animal has killed for no other reason than to kill". To kill is to deprive of life. The reasons for making dead are numerous.

I thought this was about leaf eating nuts anyways.

What other animal kills just to "deprive of life"

Its all the same question, you just keep changing the way its said instead of finding proof to back your claims that other animals are as pointless of murderers as humans.

Are you so "ignant" that you can't see my point? I will gladly take your side if you can find any proof of another serial killing, or sport hunting species.

look at it this way... if it werent for the rednecks then your chances of hitting a deer increase ten fold.

the cat was not guarding its territory. and its not one specific instance, its happened many times. not only did it kill the bird, it would PLAY with it, and bat it around after injuring it before killing it. if you cant acknowledge that that is killing for fun or sport, you are just being stubborn.

Also for all you people claiming cats do it for the sake of fun or sport...cats that are domesticated kill out of instinct. Cats naturally hunt for their own food, and when taken into a home, will still kill out of instinct, even if not hungry. Just for the fact their brain tells them, that is what they are supposed to be doing.
Humans killing humans are not doing it because they have the natural urge to eat another human. A cat will not hunt down another random cat to murder it, just to murder it.

It's called tenderizing. Also, like I said, did this bird happen to be on your property? Cats will kill for their owners as a gift. To them they are giving back food, the same way you feed your cat.

OK. I know that you dont really believe that. The cat batted it around for maybe 30 seconds before killing it. The force of the cat's blows would not 'tenderize' anything, not to mention it took not a single bite to eat of the bird. And it didnt plan to eat it later either. I have taken multiple birds and threw them in the woods because they were still laying in the yard days later. It killed the bird for fun. There is no other explanation.

Because some dame says the word murder it means there was no reason behind it? Did this broad live with them from the cradle to the grave? How does she know that one of the chimps wasn't threatened in some way?

So please tell me about all the birds your cat has killed outside of its own territory?

So it isn't killng for fun when my dog goes into my neighbors yard to dig up mole mounds and bring the dead bodies back to me, drop them in front of me, then as soon as I go to get rid of them, pick them up in his mouth and play keep away??

There is plenty of proof to the fact that nothing exists its called nothing. Your word is hardly proof. If you say you saw a dog stand on its hind legs, pull a gun out of its ass and shoot a baby in the teeth, it must be fact, because you said it happened. However, I have video documentation, news reports, and victims to claim the fact that humans kill humans for no other reason than to kill.

Like I said early, this is a pets way of returning the favor of feeding them. They are giving you a gift of food. They give it with the intent of it being eaten. Its their natural instinct to hunt for food, and being domesticated stops the need to do so, but they still feel the need to do it. So they are attempting to feed you, the same way you feed them.

^And yet you have yet to give any documented proof to your claim, besides "I saw my cat kill a bird that was on its property"

so if my dog is returning the favor, what purpose does he have in playing keep away with it like he does a stick or his toy? He had no intention of me eating it. he wanted me to play with him.

anyone equating the mentality behind human killing for sport vs animals killing other animals to mean the same thing... has to be really really really really stupid if they dont understand that humans have a higher sense of moral values and that some humans chose to disregard these morals in times of passion and or fun

You kids have a good time trying to find documented proof to your tall tales. I will now take leave, but be sure to come back to find your lack of doing so.

Morals? WTF are you talking about? Morals are a man made mindset, and I wouldn't expect an animal to have them. Man wasn't meant to have morals, we were meant to live for ourselves and to make ourselves and those we care about happy. You just choose to limit your life because the people around you tell you you should.

The problem is that you have already made up your mind as to what was true, and are making guesses for explanations at why things happen so that these events can support your view, rather than taking the simplest explanation which is usually the true one. So when the cat sees a bird, injures it, tortures it, then kills it and leaves the dead body there for no apparent reason, you have to think of a logical reason it did it to fit with your viewpoint.

^but i do agree with that. morals dont really come into this part of the argument.

i didnt read this whole thread but...

ok i got one for ya....

when i studied abroad in the czech republic...prague if you will....well in the last week or so.... our group took a trip to southern bohemia. we went to a lot of midevil town... cesky budjovice, cesky krumlov (hostel was filmed here not slovakia), trebon, etc....

well we were asked prior to this trip weather we wanted meat (pork) or vegetarian (fried cheese-is vegetarian in czech republic). well wehen we go t othe dinner the meat entree was turkey (it was good) but people who asked for vegetarian accepted turkey and people your wanted meat had to wait alot of extra time to it. (ps often in the czech republic vegetarian/vegan dishes are cooked in animal fat.)

in my opinion.... if you eat fish or turkey or chicken, etc you arent vegetarian... you just choose not to eat certain meats. it just pises me off to hear people say oh im vegetarian but eat chickin, turkey, seafood.

[Edited on May 12, 2007 at 12:58 AM. Reason : for every animal you dont eat. im gonna eat three.]

I didn't read all that, but from what I did, it sounds like they are just saying they kill for other reasons than food. It doesn't say that the dolphins hunt down and kill for no reason at all other than to kill. but if it does, please quote that part for me.

i went to a brazilian steakhouse the other night in san diego...they brought probably 15 different cuts of meat by the table, and I probably ate about 10 of them, including beef, pork, chicken, turkey, and lamb.

then we killed a rabbit in the field a few days later when we were training and ate that.

if you want to be technical, go all the way. going half-way is silly and confusing.

there are no such things as "vegetables", speaking scientifically.

there are fruits, shoots, leaves, roots, seeds, etc.

and "vegetarian" doesn't mean someone who eats just "vegetables". it means someone who eats only plant products.

well then, if vegetables= vegetation as stated above (fruits, shoots, leaves, etc), then you'd be a carnivore.

if by that you mean you eat fruit, seeds, and other stuff, then there is no word for that.

Stupidest business decision, esp in today's world?

YES.

"Mars starts using animal products

Masterfoods' brands are household names

Some of the UK's best-selling chocolate bars, such as Mars and Twix, will no longer be suitable for vegetarians.

Also affecting brands such as Snickers and Maltesers, owner Masterfoods said it had started to use animal product rennet to make its chocolate products.

Masterfoods said the change was due to it switching the sourcing of its ingredients and the admission was a "principled decision" on its part.

The Vegetarian Society said the company's move was "incomprehensible".

"Vegetable is a culinary term which generally refers to an edible part of a plant. The definition is traditional rather than scientific and is somewhat arbitrary and subjective. All parts of herbaceous plants eaten as food by humans, whole or in part, are normally considered vegetables. Mushrooms, though belonging to the biological kingdom fungi, are also commonly considered vegetables. In general, vegetables are thought of as being savory, and not sweet, although there are many exceptions. Nuts, grains, herbs, spices and culinary fruits (see below) are normally not considered vegetables."
