i don't care how slow you want to go if you're doing it in the right lane. that's fine, you're where you're supposed to be. i also don't care how fast you want to go, but if i'm in the left lane passing a line of cars and you're flying up behind me, i will speed up or slow down (whatever it takes) to get out of the way and let you pass.

this really is difficult for people to understand, especially on the new 64 bypass w/ 3 lanes in each direction. THE MIDDLE LANE IS NOT FOR CRUISING.

If you're going under the speed limit in the left lane you're just as much of the problem of "speed" related accidents as the guy going 15mph over. It's the difference in speed that causes the problems... so get the fuck out of the way. It won't hurt you, will make the guy behind you happy, you'll get there just as fast and hell, it's even more fucking legal and safe in a lot of regards. There are other lanes you can drive in and technically that is exactly what you're suppose to do. YOU PASS ON THE LEFT, DRIVE ON THE RIGHT. I wish NC had more strict laws about this so cops could/would do something to you fucktards that are trying to prove a point by going 5 under in the far left lane.

But yes, I do realize that US roads are of lesser quality and that vehicle and driver licensing requirements are far laxer than many other (mostly western European) countries. I also realize that these differences lead to lower speed limits in the US when compared to some other countries.

^ & ^^ I certainly don't condone driving significantly below the speed limit, particularly in the left lane. But the fact that people do this doesn't give others a free pass to go significantly greater than the speed limit.

Some places like Germany, require that your car not exceed a certain age. Also you cannot modify your car without getting prior approval. Keeps people from adding dangerous additions to their car like a wing made out of a 2x4. lol

You're driving along on a 55mph road and come up on this little old lady in a VW Bug going 40.

You pass her.

She just made you do something.

In heavy or moderate traffic so many people are just itching to get around her that there are bound to be a few close calls. A normal situation could be just two lanes of traffic going along the way, no lane changes. With one speed demon there is one lane changer. With one slow turtle there are a ton of changes. More activity means more chance that something is going to happen.

Now, I dunno about fatalities from slow drivers, but general aggravation I'd say yea.

On a kind of related note, on Friday I was driving to Tennessee at around 5pm. On the other side of the road coming in the opposite direction there were two trucks going the exact same speed (I would guess about the speed limit, which was 65 I think). They were blocking both lanes of the interstate and there was traffic backed up behind them for MILES. I couldn't help but laugh, but I know that if I had been stuck behind them I would be pissed.

Today I was driving down west boung Wade Ave. heading out to I40.

I'm the kind guy who flashes my lights at you when you're going slow in the left lane.
Hell, I'll move into the left lane and flash my lights if you and I are the only damn cars on the road and you're going slower in the left lane.

If I'm in the left lane and someone even less patient than I am tailgates me then it's no big deal.
I just move over to the right lane as soon as I can.
That's how the system works; slower traffic keep right. If you are slower, then move right.
I don't get mad because I'd do the same thing if I were them.


On a somewhat related note, I like it when you're in a fire truck responding to a fire with your sirens and lights on...then you ride up on some dipshit who hits the brakes right in the middle of the fucking road.
Yeah, my flashing lights and siren means slow the fuck down and block my path. It helps me get to the fire faster.
