Charlotte probably has a shot since their stadium is outdoors, but tha little hole in the ceiling in Atlanta won't do them much good.

Not sure why they replaced the grass with turf in Charlotte anyways. Injuries aside, turf is absolutely ass to play on.

So Tepper could fire the groundskeeping crew. Turf is cheaper to maintain after the initial cost of putting it in.

^LOL.

Roster out for the June window. No Brooks. Berhalter clearly just has a vendetta at this point. But I'm glad to see CCV and EPB maybe get some run at CB. I also like the Tillman callup (he just switched his national team allegiance to US from Germany) as well as Djorde and Haji Wright.

Of course Roldan is there for the vibes and hopefully Morris is getting one more chance before Qatar because he is shown absolutely nothing for the US since he came back from injury.

Steffen out for June matches due to family reasons. Not ideal to go into a World Cup with no GK getting regular appearances

Still don't understand the Brooks thing, he has WC experience and plays regularly for his club.

Morroco tomorrow night. Turner getting the start, Long and Zimmerman as CB and Aaronson getting tested out in the MF.

I’m not sure how someone who can make the kind of touch pulisic had on the first goal can turn around and take corners as badly as he does. I have kids on my high school team that take more dangerous corners than Pulisic. Why does he take them for the US?

0-0 Uruguay. Kind of lackluster performance against what most are saying was a B+ team for Uruguay. You could make the argument that with Steffen/Turner/Gio/Richards/Pepi not playing, that we werent exactly full strength either.

Although our backline ultimately didn't let any goals in against Uruguay or Morocco, they definitely looked less than stellar. Zimmerman was fine, Yedlin was terrible, Carter-Vickers and Palmer-Brown were not exciting at all. I think CBs will be Zim and Richards--assuming he comes back from injury.

I'm glad Scally got a call-up and he will provide good depth at LB or RB, but if he is our starter in the WC, we may be screwed. Hopefully the MMA midfield is only gonna be used for matchups where we want to pack the back. Defensively they are fine, but they provide very little offensive creativity. I'd like to see LDLT or Aaronson get more time in the MF--and hopefully Gio will fill those slots when he gets back.

If that Ref is the best CONCACAF has then its no wonder the rest of the world laughs at our region. Was Tits boot high, yes, but studs didn't make contact and it was more of a trip on a 50-50 ball. Yellow at worst and half the fouls on Pulisic and Aaronson in 1st half were worse than that.

Field was garbage. Goalkeeper is going to be a huge issue in the World Cup. Horvath's positioning was horrid.

Musah is going to be a great player, if he gets better at finishing we could have a really dangerous MF. DLT came in and made an impact as well. Pulisic continues to be inconsistent on corners and FK.

CONCACAF gonna CONCACAF. Every game in central america is due to have some absolutely batshit stuff happen it seems like.

^^ That Horvath positioning was just . Maybe he expected Cannon to not give up the edge? Either way, he probably just played himself off the team. Was a bummer too because I was hoping he would make a push for the starting job.

Haji Wright had an admittedly rough first half, but it's so baffling to me that GGG seems to give some guys super long leashes, while others he will bring back again and again. Jordan Morris has been a complete non-factor for most of the qualifying campaign and against Grenada, he was terrible. Not to mention, he plays in one of our deepest positions on the team and yet he gets run again and again. good for him with the goal last night, but if we are in a position where he has to take the field in the WC, we are screwed. I'd much rather see a variety of striker/winger options on the team that have actual quality--Sergent, Hoppe, Konrad. All of them have looked better than Morris in limited time.

Haji gets a half, does a couple of decent things and was invisible. Jesus missed about 8 chances (some of them were sitters) in the first half against Grenada, but he got the whole game and obviously started finishing in the second half against basically a high-school club team. Arriola averages about 9 just dumb turnovers a game and doesn't score. I'm just tired of seeing the same MLS chads out there being unimpressive and yet we can't cycle in any new faces for real chances.

Leeds is gonna be fun to watch this year. Aside from having 3 Americans, I have a feeling the high press they are running is gonna lead to some high-scoring games.

I have watched the premier league for years, but never really grabbed onto a team. I think I'm gonna be a Leeds guy. Seems fitting for an NC State fan anyways. I don't know what I would do following a team that didn't disappoint me.

Pretty interesting twitter thread on why Pulisic should leave Chelsea on the heels of a guardian article that indicates Tuchel doesn't trust him. Obv I'm biased as a USMNT fan first, but it does baffle me that he disappears so often when he does get on the field for Chelsea.

https://twitter.com/MLS_Buzz/status/1557384948880900096

Quote :
"Christian Pulisic needs to leave Chelsea because it's a place where attackers are going to have their talents wasted...

Here's a quick thread sing the 2021/22 season and Liverpool as a comparison group since their attackers thrive in the same league:

Number of times targeted with a pass per 90 minutes:
- Liverpool: All 4 primary attackers were in top 15 in the squad
- Chelsea: 1 attacker in the top 15

Havertz, Chelsea's most used attacker, would be SEVENTEENTH on Liverpool in usage.

Attackers are training dummies at Chelsea

Kante, Alonso, Chillwell, and James all averaged more touches in the final 3rd than Pulisic (& other attackers)

Pulisic averaged 25 touches per match in the attacking 3rd, James averaged 40

16 players on Liverpool's squad had more attacking touches than Pulisic got at Chelsea

At Liverpool, 6 different attackers averaged 3 or more shots per 90 minutes. At Chelsea, only 2 (Havertz and Werner).

12 players in Liverpool's squad averaged more goal attempts than Pulisic did at Chelsea.

Christian Pulisic (and most other attackers in the modern game) is at his best when he's allowed to get on the ball in space and playing at a tempo that is conducive to putting attackers in spots to.. you know.. attack

That's not Chelsea and it won't be.

IT DOES NOT MATTER how often he gets on the field at Chelsea. Anyone that gets on the field for Chelsea is a training dummy for overlapping full-backs and Tuchel-ball.

His time there is up, imo."

^^Interesting take

Pulisic's issues are the same its been his whole career is hamstring injuries. Everytime he gets on a bit of form he gets injured and misses time. Tuchel's tactics may play a role in his inability to score goals, but he has been in some good positions and missed.

However, if he was going to leave he should have pushed for an exit earlier this summer. They will not sell him especially to another PL side, save maybe West Ham in a swap deal for Declan Rice.

Pulisic certainly has struggled with injuries over the years so your point stands, but I think you may be thinking of Gio Reyna with the hamstrings. Pulisic's last injury that kept him out IIRC was the ankle injury he picked up courtesy of getting CONCACAF'd.

My beef with Tuchel is less about tactics--he did win the Champions League a year ago with those tactics afterall--and more about him playing favorites with others over Pulisic. He regularly sat behind Mount and Werner who had less or the same productivity than Pulisic did in much fewer minutes and at times playing out of position as a wingback.

And I'm not saying Pulisic has been so on form that it's obvious he should start over them either, but I do think it's time for him to find a place that values him. I have heard rumblings of Newcastle and Roma as well.

With the production of Sargent, Pefok, Haji, Jesus... even vasquez, it's looking like Pepi might get left out. It's a shame too because I think when he is on form and playing, he may be the most dynamic except for Sargent. It's good to see Sargent performing and playing in the right position again. I like him over Jesus

Dest to AC Milan. Pepi to FC Groningen. Looks like both of them should get more playing time which will be good for the lead up to the World Cup. Fuck Barcelona for dicking around with Dest for so long.

bigtime oof this morning. Jesus misses yet another wide open chance 3 yds out. Our CBs were atrocious the first half and although they seemed to clean things up in the second after subs and going with a back 3, our attack the entire game was listless--we couldn't build.

I'd really like to see Gio in a central midfield role instead of out wide. I know with Pulisic and Weah out, we were a bit short on wingers, but I fear Adams/McKennie just aren't going to be dynamic enough with Weston being off form like he is.

another clunker

Pepi was anonymous. Ferreira came on and looked slightly more threatening. As Chelsea supporter I should be used to not having a #9 but that looks to be a huge weakness.

Some of the superstars better find some form in the next 6 weeks are we will be lucky to get a result against Iran.

Scally was a bright spot in his 30 minutes.

^^ agree on Scally. It makes you wonder why the fuck we started yedlin. The guy has been mediocre for 6 years now. Scally has potential at least and has proven he can hang in a top league.

Then again, you could say that about Jesus, Arriola, Morris and Long too (throw in Cannon and Bello as Gregg favorites who don't belong as well). They just aren't good enough and to keep running them out is just stubborness at this point.

Gregg has his formation and his system and that trumps whatever talent we have. You would think that after a year and a half of not having a real 9 that we would just say fuck it and play aaronson, pulisic, or Gio as a false 9 and just get out best talent on the field at the same time. Pepi is young and has a future but he needs some form again. Jesus is a B-team guy as far as I am concerned. He misses tons of chances and just doesn't bring much to the table. Sargent could be decent, but for some reason he got the least amount of time of all our 9s this window and for the last year or so. Not having Pefok even on the roster when he is on a tear in the Bundesliga is damn near coaching malpractice.

The good news is that we were missing A-rob, Weah and Musah this window who should all be back and starters at the WC and have been among our most productive offensive players during WCQ. But damn, these two games were awful and don't bode well for us getting out of groups.

^Musah seems to be the key cog to Greg's system and he was a big miss, hope he gets to full fitness by November. Pefok and Sargent were both in good form, but he went with Pepi and Ferreira and those seem to be his prefrences. But what happens when FC Dallas crashes out of playoffs and Ferreira has no competitive matches for over 30 days?

Also, if we don't get out of group then Berhalter will have to go.

Roldan, Haji Wright, Tim Ream and Shaq Moore surprise inclusions. I don't hate Haji and Shaq--both were underutilized in WCQ IMO. Roldan is not good, but his replacement wasn't gonna play anyways.

No Pepi. No Tillman. No Steffen.

Steffen's mistake was going to Man City and only playing in domestic cup ties, and his big error in one of those ties. This will probably be the same thing that happens to Matt Turner in a couple of years. Yes being in the EPL is a big deal but as a GK if you aren't playing weekly your skills diminish.

Pepi's mistake was going to Europe too soon and now bouncing around on loans to smaller clubs. He is young though so if he really has the talent he showed early on in WCQ he will have another shot.

Roldan must have some dirt on Berhalter, at least Tits contributed some as a sub and even he didn't make the roster.

^ I don't totally disagree on Pepi as far as the Augsburg move went, but he has scored like 8 goals since he went to the dutch league. And he still has been playing competitive games for the last month.

Gregg said in an interview that it was between Jesus and Pepi for one spot and Haji and Pefok for the "physical presence" third spot off the bench. I actually like Haji and feel like he got shafted in qualifying, but GGG missed on both of those choices IMO. I don't understand his love affair with certain players and his rigidity in the positions--Jesus being the chief example. For one, Jesus isn't even a 9. Two, he can't finish for shit (probably because he isn't a 9).

It seems like the moves to Europe are on balance ok so long as the situation is right. Steffen on a mid table prem team would have been fine. Steffen wasting away behind Ederson--not fine. Same for Turner in the long haul. Pepi can probably produce in the Bundesliga if he is in the right situation, but a shit team that plays a low block and doesn't produce chances isn't the right situation for a guy who isn't a target man.

The whole Berhalter era has been a complete waste of time. No reason to drag the likes of Roldan, Morris, and Long to a fucking World Cup. I suspect this will be a 3 and out experience for them, and then he'll get canned. Should have been canned months ago for someone who could possibly make a little more noise over there.

Berhalter claimed to have saved him as a precaution in the post game. A precaution for what? It's the fuckin world cup in essentially a must win game and we are the better team and need a goal. What a clown.

Now if we don't at least draw England, we are basically out. What a let down.

This is who GGG is, he basically is the anti-Klinsmann he prefers MLS to European based players. I honestly want him gone unless he has some miraculous run to the Semi's.

Do we have the talent to draw England, sure, but the last time we played them in a WC it took a howler from Joe Hart to even get a draw and England are more talented now.
