^^There are two models, the Elise and Exige. Elise sales are about 2500 per year. Exige sales are 150-500 per year total, although it's hard to get numbers on them, because many Exige's are special orders, cup cars and limited editions.

^Thanks dear . Apparently sumfoo doesn't realize that rarity!=exotic. Ferrari's are exotic even though they sell more than double the number of cars Lotus does every year.

You can't tell it's an Exige from the pics, so it was natural to assume a Lotus in the dark would be just an Elise. An Exige is probably moderately qualified for this thread, Elise not so much. And it's still a little bit odd to post your own car in the exotics thread, especially with a crappy pic. Not hating by the way, just saying I understand where he was coming from.

I knew it was an Exige, you spent a year finding one you could afford i have seen you drive it i do know what I'm talking about... and your Toyota engine wasn't hand built/hand machined like the roll's
you don't have hand planed wood in your interior if you can call that an interior.

Basically What I'm trying to get at is you have the British version of an R code mustang... it has a regular model that isn't very rare at all and available to the masses if the masses gave a shit about a stripped down mid engined sports car for 50k but you have the rare model stripped down for racing... oooohhh... cute. And i wouldn't post an R-code in here either ohhh a 70k mustang they made 250 of... If its a 240 r then i'll swallow my words cause that does warrant some respect but otherwise you're driving a car with less balls than a V6 accord.

but the main point of what I'm saying is one must be a complete and udder TOOL BAG to post their own car in here. I could post a car from my garage if you can post yours but i won't cause i don't consider shit that's within reach "exotic".

Haha. that's almost as cocky as my "i own a porsche... It doesn't matter that it's a 'poor man's' 1985.5 944 Porsche, it's still a porsche and I own one and you don't."

At least now my car has some balls... The sad thing is I need to start looking for a tranny soon. The current tranny doesn't sound too good

I find that extremely hard to believe, being that it was driven in Raleigh twice ever before being shipped to the west coast. That and I've never met you in my life, so unless you saw me drive by for 2 seconds or came and gizzed on my car at night, I fail to see how that's possible.

Not a single part on primer's car was hand anything, yet you seem to think that qualifies as exotic (which is isn't). This isn't a Rare Spotted thread, it's an Exotic Spotted thread. My post was tongue in cheek because I thought it was a neat picture much more than I cared about posting my car. But of course some douchebag always has a napolean complex.

Quote :

"

2008 Accord V6 0-60 5.9sec
2006 Exige 0-60 4.7sec

That's as close as an accord will ever come. You seem to not realize that some people care less about horsepower than you do *GASP*. I mean who would ever think maybe there is more to defining the worthiness of a car than HP? Maybe the experience of driving a car is much more than how much gas it guzzles, and how big the turbo and displacement at? MAYBE?

Quote :
"it has a regular model that isn't very rare at all and available to the masses if the masses gave a shit about a stripped down mid engined sports car for 50k but you have the rare model stripped down for racing... oooohhh... cute"

This is complete and utter nonsense. You are saying 2,500 unit sales per year isn't rare? I have a model with a hand laid fiberglass body, it's not stripped down for racing. And hell yes that makes it more valuable, rare, and desireable to me.

A MUSTANG IS NOT A FUCKING EXOTIC. A 100000000 horsepower Honda Civic is not an exotic. Neither is a cutlass, or a nova, or any other car you've mentioned so far other than the Rolls.

Quote :
"I could post a car from my garage if you can post yours but i won't cause i don't consider shit that's within reach "exotic"."

Feel free if it's an exotic. Cost is only one factor. Performance is more than horsepower, but is another factor, rarity and breed are also factors. To say Lotus is not an exotic brand is ignorant. To say an Elise or Exige is not exotic is to say they are run-of-the-mill vehicles, which they are definitely not in any sense of the word. They are absolutely focused high performance, no compromise track ready machines that came from the vision of Colin Chapman.

I've never met you and you've never met me, so for the love of god quit being such a fucking internerd and making assumptions about how I carry myself. It's very apparent you have no sense of humor, no ability to recognize light-heartedness, no social ability online or otherwise, and a complete lack of goodwill in the intentions of other people.

^I think the Porsche, poor mans or other otherwise deserves to be in this thread if it ever makes it back on the road, just because people will be amazed it's still alive!

So there is another red exige in raleigh?... i shit you not i was with my roomate the day we saw it... it was about 2 years ago though now and i actually corrected him on the model saying "no, an elise has a rear window".

P.S. when i was talking hand built i was talking about the rolls royce silvercloud mentioned before that you compared your car to. and i was exagerating with primer's cutlass.

But the car i'm leaving out of this thread there were 1500 made...51 years ago... there are only a few dozen left.

Now by your rules this mustang is more exotic than your exige

built by ford with a hand assembled engine stripped interior name brand everything from seats to rods to oil cooler... faster than your car 0-60 pulls over 1g on a skid pad is worth more than your car and there were only 250 made...

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/coupe/112_0004_ford_svt_mustang_cobra_r/index.html
read for yourself.

I'm just being a douche cause you pat yourself on the back like a homo i think the exige is an awesome car... but if it belongs in this thread than so would that ↑

Seeing as there's a dealership in Durham, it's quite possible. I bought the car in DC, drove it down in late october 2007, and had it shipped west two weeks later. So nope it wasn't me, and it wasn't this car.

Quote :
"Now by your rules this mustang is more exotic than your exige"

The hell it is.

Cost new : $55k. Base price on the NA Exige was $52 in 06. With options it was $61k.
Cost today: $40k (ebay), my exige will fetch a decent bit more currently.

Performance: mustang is .3 seconds faster to 60, and faster in the 1/4 mile. It loses out on braking and the slalom. virtually tied on the skidpad.

So you have performance, and decent pricetag, and rarity. But it doesn't have pedigree. Ford Mustang doesn't carry the pedigree of a Ford GT, Lotus, Ferrari, Lambourgini, Rolls Royce, etc. It's a nice car, but your average joe wouldn't know the difference passing him at a stoplight.

PS: damn right I'm patting myself on the back. I love my car, best toy I've ever bought, and I share the love as much as possible. sparky had a turn in it last time he was out here I like the car that much more because other people enjoy it as much as I do.

I think that's what really makes a car exotic, when wherever you go, everyone has a big grin on their face just like you, gearhead or not. Exotics, classics, and supercars all have the same kind of response, and I love them all for it.

personally, i would not call exige an exotic. esprit on the other hand is DEFINITELY an exotic. exige is in its own class actually.

i personally don't see anything wrong in somebody taking pride in lotus ownership. i know i would.

And for what it's worth, I created this thread for exotic spotted. That doesn't mean just performance or high hp figures. Older classics (ie: older rolls royce...) and luxury cars count too. Hell, if you see a really really nice model A going down 40, take a picture of it an post it here! Let me redefine exotic for some of you people...

ex·ot·ic (g-ztk)
adj.
1. From another part of the world; foreign: exotic tropical plants in a greenhouse. See Synonyms at foreign.
2. Intriguingly unusual or different; excitingly strange

I'm just looking for cars that are "uncommon." No I don't want people posting "unique" ricor shit. I can go to capital blvd the local government impound if I want to see any of that... i'm talking about seriously unique cars, whether its a 1 of or a a limited production car. I'd consider an exige an exotic for a few reasons, but to each their own. Remember, I posted the lotus 72d beacause it was a 1 of 50. 1 of 50!!!! You can't tell me that's a "common/usual" car...

Yeah a mustang isn't necesarily "exotic" when you compare it to a lotus or a delorean, however, if it's a limited production 1 of 250 for one reason or another, post it up anyways. Fuck what anyone has to say, I'll appreciate it.

Does my GS-R qualify? Only 1500 made that model year, and that was 16 yrs ago

So that black 612 I spotted, turns out it belongs to the neighbor 3 doors down. Yesterday it was just sitting in the driveway. I guess they didn't feel like putting it in the garage to get out of the rain...

The 2nd generation GS-R (first appearance of the GS-R) is pretty rare, and the engine they use was only sold in the US. Every mechanic I've taken my car too has said he's surprised the engine/tranny hasn't been stolen

Noen, good choice, man. I finally drove an elise two weeks ago. fucking hilarious fun, but man was it a racket on the highway. You're more committed than I am. I'd need something boring like a camry for highway jaunts if I drove an exige daily. Anyway... ::mad props::

i was in ohio and saw probably over 25 shelby cobras. now I dont know them well enough to know if they were kit cars or the real deal, but I have never seen more cobras driving down the road in one place. There must have been some kind of meet going on because they were driving down these roads 8 or 9 deep.

Doubt they were real, there are replicas out the ass these days. Originals are worth too much for most "collectors" to drive.

I heard a story about a guy with a completely original Cobra. Supposedly he got tired of people coming up to him and asking if its the real one or the kit version so he had someone strip the paint all the way down and polished up the aluminum body. lol.

the owner of my old engineering firm has a real one... its a street model with a 289 though.. no one asks if his is a fake because all of the replicas... well 98% of them are of the 427 s/c model...

^^ I agree... I am hoping (sadly ) that the resale value of the cayman will be similar to that of the boxster... If that's the case, I can see myself in a slightly used one in a couple years

Surprisingly, the Cayman is less common than the Cayman S

2006
1160 Cayman / 5865 Cayman S

2007
2650 Cayman / 3377 Cayman S

Total
3810 Cayman / 9242 Cayman S

^ Yeah. I thought that was odd someone would do that... But I can't really disprove or find the story so I'm just taking it for what it is... A story...

If i had too much time on my hand I'd put a camera up and record traffic from 4-7 and post it in here I'd say there are about a dozen amg mercs, 1/2 dozen m5/m6s (of the v10 persuasion), 7-8 911 turbos, 1 911-rs, 2 quattroportes , 1 360 modena, 1 355, 2 of the more recent aston martins (i think one is a amv8 and the other is a vanquish or a db9 i haven't seen it up close) and one murcielago.

All of which go by almost daily because I'm on the easiest road to go from "Up-town" to east-dover and southpark areas of charlotte

I too love the Cayman, definitely want to see about picking up a pre-owned one in a few years. However, I have a super sweet spot in my heart for the 993, definitely want to own one of those at some point.

Saw a modified F430 on the Garden State Parkway yesterday. It was red, and had some kind of (tasteful IMO) modifications done. Front fascia, rear grille/valence panel, and exhaust. It went by fast though (my uncle drives slooow) so I didn't get a great look.
