Sp!ed: 2010 NSX

So finally, the new body type has been spotted... apparently the designers were able to agree on the styling.

Quote :
"Honda showed its Advanced Sports Car Concept [ http://www.autoblog.com/photos/acura-advanced-sports-car-concept/125837/ ] at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show, a preview of the next-generation NSX, but failed to deliver a production version — as Honda said it would — at the 2007 Tokyo show.

According to Dick Colliver, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co., the delay has been because designers couldn’t agree on the NSX’s styling. “All of the designers are working together on the NSX, but they can’t agree on the styling,” he said in January this year.

American Honda President and CEO Tetsuo Iwamura recently confirmed the NSX will be launched in the U.S. in 2010. Honda will also be launching the Acura brand in Japan and Europe around the same time, but the automaker says it will launch the NSX in the U.S. market first. "

Is it me, or does that strangely look very similar to the Lexus LF-A, but just a bit tighter/shorter? Anyway, they have got something good up their sleeves... I like what I see.

Oh BTW...

Front engined and 2+2

It is rumored to have a V10 producing about 450-550 hp. Also it will have Acura's SH-AWD.

Hope they will show something in September or October at Tokyo/Paris/Frankfurt.

With the GT-R out, and the Lexus LF-A soon to be out, all I can say is

"EPIC

JAPANESE

BATTLE"

And it is about time Mitsu and Mada got on the ball too.

Enjoy!

Anyone else noticing the striking similarity in volume/symmetry between this, the GT-R and the new 350Z's?

It's not likely the NSX successor. It would be unprecedented to have a vehicle developed that far along when the prototype is 16 months away from being officially revealed and 2 years from being in showrooms.

There was rumor a few years back about a smaller, cheaper Corvette-fighter under the NSX. Looking at the small proportions, it doesn't look like there is enough room for the anticipated 5.5L V10 under the hood, so this is probably a smaller model with a V8.

if there is room for a twin turbo 6 litre V12 under a C-Class' hood (Brabus Bullitt), then there is room for a 5 litre V10 under that hood.

but yeah, it could be anything.

where did you get that?

dude, that's how long it takes to develop a supercar. this is not a civic or an accord. wasn't the prototype nissan gtr released back in 2005? but it is only on sale now.

I'm pretty sure Acura's developing a luxury 2dr coupe derived from the S2000's platform. Thats probably what this is.

About 2/3 down there is a comparison to an Accord coupe that provides a sense of scale. If it is the NSX replacement, it will be very small. Hopefully it is, because that would help counteract the AWD, and probably make for one of the lighter supercars currently out.

Godawful paint job for anyone who's not twelve years old, but I'm excited to see what the end product will be. The NSX is one of the few foreign models I follow.

The war has begun...

http://www.autoblog.com/2008/06/19/nsx-laps-ring-unofficially-at-7-37/

NSX laps 'Ring unofficially at 7:37

Quote :
"The NSX prototype that we recently showed you lapping the 'Ring has recently been clocked unofficially by KGP spy photographers doing a 7:37 lap around the 'Ring in traffic. It's no secret what kind of cars live in that 7:30 bracket. Seeing as how Honda CEO Takeo Fukui wants the NSX to lap the 'Ring faster than the GT-R, we'd be remiss if we didn't mention that Nissan's supercar has done it officially in 7 minutes, 29 seconds.

Remember, though, when the Nissan GT-R was casually timed by trackside reporters, they clocked it doing a 7:38, and well know now what GT-R can really do when pressed by a professional. If the NSX mule and it's rumored 550-hp 5.5L V10 are really that good already, then the car looks in good shape to deliver on Honda CEO Fukui-san's command to beat the GT-R and LF-A."

Wow... if that time really is more or less accurate, then that has to be the NSX, and not some 350Z competitor or a glorified S2000. This is getting realy interesting.

And also:

Quote :
"As a bonus, KGP also managed to snap the interior of the NSX prototype. While not revealing much, we can see its gauges and the paddle shifters for its rumored 8-speed transmission."

yes honda's factory car will be faster but as with all their other cars it will be precision engineered rather than over built thus further modification such as forced induction will usually result in catastrophic failure.

^^^eh??? Most of their performance engines of the 90s/early 00s were overengineered, i.e. B series, H series. Forged cranks that can handle 500hp are precision engineered?!

I can't think of any Honda motor that could make 500hp w/out significant internal work. The fact that the crankshaft +block can stand X amount of power doesn't mean much. GM has pushed their ecotech motors to some insane power (600+ I want to say) without touching the crank. If you want to talk about overbuilt, look at Porsche turbo motors from the 70s all the way to today, or BMW inline 6s that can push 500hp + without any internal work, down to the cams and pistons.

^^ rods pistons and blocks need to be beefed up in most 500hp civics... cranks don't cost much to make hold power once you've already spent the money to spin them to 7k
