when you randomly pick up my copy of Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy do you read a certain chapter, just pick a page, start at the beginning?

cliche i know, but it's hard to beat "run to the hills" a far as the drums go

intro and chorus beats are both awesome

I guess I have no idea what I'm talking about

I discovered the jazz album one drunken night, and I thought I remembered looking it up because I didn't think it was Girl Talk as I knew it, but it actually was. It appears I'm horribly wrong.

^ meh

^^ neither. of montreal is too expensive. camera obscura aren't particularly interesting live unless you want to stare at the girls (and i wouldn't blame you).

if you had to pick one sharon jones and the dap kings song as an introduction to someone to their catalog, what would you pick?

your audience is a retired beatle-head who's been infatuated with music for ages.

I'd pick 100 Days, 100 Nights.

The new one is really Motown-y, the first one is really deep funk to just jump into, and I only really like three or four songs on Naturally.

Who would play you in your bio pic? What would it be titled? If they have been asked, you may disregard those questions.

Is it just me or is the harmonica bit in Karma Chameleon by Culture Club strangely out of place?

it was the '80s

no random bit of instrumentation is out of place, especially if it's reed-based

chord organ, harmonica, harpsichord, etc.

realizing that a precise answer is impossible, what's your best guess for average payment for a small show? let's say some band mostly fills up cat's cradle and has two openers. standard ~$10 tickets or whathaveyou. do the openers get paid anything beyond what they make selling merchandise?

also, what are your thoughts on encores for shows such as this, where they're clearly just going through the motions of walking off stage to walk back on 20 seconds later?

The openers definitely make money in a situation where CC is mostly full, but it's been years since I played there so I don't know how they do their money.

As an example, though, the last time we played Local Beer/Local Band on a three-band bill we made a couple hundred bucks, and that's on a show with no cover and a band with no merch.

I think a lot of bands would like to only do encores when the response really warrants it, but when you're standing in the back and trying to figure out whether to go back on, how do you deny the people who are honestly yelling for more, even if there's only ten of them?

Did you at one point consider pursuing an MFA?

If you decided against it, what were your motivations?

I'm kind of thinking about the path myself and I'd like some input from people who may have been in that position, and TWW is kind of lacking in our department.

it's time for a new record player

what would you recommend? (the cheaper the better, of course)

you can find beat-up-but-functionally-perfect 1200s for ~$250 if you look hard.

but if you want cheap and new, the audio-technica lp-60 isn't bad if you don't want anything fancy like pitch control or backwards playback

or i will sell you my panasonic from the '60s for $40...it's quirky but works great

their actions have nothing to do with the filmmaking

their portrayal has to do with the filmmaking, but the leaders themselves had nothing to do with that

this is a political question, not an arts question

and i have no interest in politics
