What's coming tonight and tomorrow morning. I'm seeing people post some maps with more impressive snow coming back for round 2

some nice looking snow coming down in Morrisville. Roads coming into work this morning from Raleigh were fine. 70 mph all the way on I-40.

Back at my house in S Raleigh only got about 4-5 inches. Started raining around 9am Sunday so really had no chance to have any fun in the snow

I went outside to go clear the driveway as my wife was maybe going to work. Kids and I were off as schools and universities are closed. When I went out at 7:00 it was sleet/snow but while I was out there it fully switched over to snow and has been just dumping for like two hours now. They are calling for us to get another 2-4" inches possibly. If this keeps up the kids and I might not be going to work/school tomorrow either!

Right, there will be black ice on the road tomorrow morning, which is very dangerous for traffic.

My kids are in Chapel Hill-Carrboro, so not as many rural roads and long bus routes for them to deal with. Minimum I would say 2 hour delay for them tomorrow with a possibly closure for the whole day. After that I bet they are back to normal Wednesday through Friday.

^ One of the trees in his backyard was touching a power line and was smouldering. Watch again - you'll see the smoke rising in the top-right corner near the end of the video. It was happening in at least 4 different places along the line.

They didn't seem to care and left after taking a look.

Firefighters won't fuck with power lines. All they can do is call the power company. And all the power company can do in that situation is kill the power so they can work on it and then get bitched at by customers. It'll protect itself.

By "they didn't seem to care," ^that's pretty much what I meant.
It wasn't likely to spread and eventually would either burn itself out or fault the line.

Timelapse video was cool. What did you use to film it?

Synology has "Smart Time Lapse" built into Surveillance Station. It was pretty easy to set up since it manages everything anyway.

It was an impressive system for sure. If I directly post here the images will blow up the page. Here is a link to some shots of mine from Durham and Raleigh:

^I saw those pop up the other day and remembered seeing them on your Facebook. Good shots.
I guess there isn't much concern of snow and moisture causing a problem with the drone itself?

Thank you and if it is snow the props will keep most of it off the drone itself. Light rain is doable too but if it is heavy that can be a problem.

there were a few runs heading toward 2" of freezing rain along the I-85 corridor

Luckily they're worthless this far out for anything other than a reminder to grocery shop mid-week.

Last few model runs I've seen are generally showing around 0.8"-1" QPF for most of Triad/Triangle for this particular event, just remains to be seen what the distribution of that will be between rain/snow/freezing rain

Either way, my power’s going out.

You’d think I’d bought a generator by now.

You’d be wrong!

We got about 18" during the last storm, this weekend is just "sleet and maybe flurries" without any accumulation predictions ):

Its sunny and warm enough that I've got windows open airing out the house. Loving this weather, heading to Umstead to do some hiking.
