Having fun with the zombie pack so far. I, too, enjoyed the western feel of the vanilla version, but who says enjoying westerns and enjoying zombies are mutually exclusive?

They definitely achieve the tension/spooky factor, especially when you're out in the wilderness somewhere that you're not accustomed to human enemies. Riding through the woods in the rain and suddenly seeing a mass of 10-20 zombies heading down a hill towards you has a more powerful effect than the near-ubiquitous zombies of Dead Rising, which are basically just an annoying obstacle or target for creative slaughter.

I just got this game also. The only thing I don't like so far is that it takes a while to get places on horseback.. but i guess i could easily utilize the stagecoaches i find in some towns...

what does the train do? I haven't been there yet.

also, i'm gaining money pretty quickly but i don't really know what to spend it on. how advantageous is it to upgrade my gun? I have a rifle and revolver right now.. but i don't really see a need to upgrade. they are working fine.

and how necessary is it to get all the parts of the outfits? Is that an essential part of the game?

Cool.
I think I figured out why I couldn't take people "alive" on the bounty missions.
I hadn't done the Bonnie mission that teaches you the lasso and how to "break" the horses...

Now maybe it will let me lasso people.

you'll want to upgrade your guns. there are quite a few repeater rifles later in the game that will help you take out larger posses easily and things like the sawed off shotgun are fun to have in close quarters shootouts.

the outfits just add more exploration to the game. It really depends on if you want to experience everything and try to complete 100% of the game. I dunno, it was a fun part of the game to me. I would change up outfits each time I saved or wear something related to what mission i was on in the game.

Man, i forgot how awesome this game is. I restarted the main story and the production value compared to New Vegas on this is just unbelievable. Everything is just so well done.

I've also been playing the undead nightmare, zombies are surprisingly entertaining.

How much is left after he gets back to his farm?

I gave up on it a while ago but have been tempted to finish it lately.

I never finished it, but restarted it and started doing things the right way (i.e. - not killing any and every thing in sight) and it's so bad ass. I still haven't gotten bored. I'm about to finish the Mexico missions and unlock the whole world again.

Well I don't feel like as much of a puss for giving up when I got back to the ranch and had to do a bunch of domestic shit.

lol, the last mission was pretty intense after all of the family stuff. i completed that game 100%. The worst mistake they made was making all of the DLC stuff zombie related instead of any classic western expansion missions. Once it went zombie it went on the shelf.

I did finish the final mission though.

it was easier if you shot them at first to wear down their stamina, then finished them off with the knife

hehe, hold still

Yeah, but it was still a pain in the ass.

Cougars were probably harder because it was tough to find them and when you did, they were already lunging at your horse and ready to beat your ass. You could shoot bears a couple of times before going after them with a knife, but they were hard as hell to catch if they started running away and if they had a family with them...

There really isn't much. I just put it on the shelf after I got tired of doing domestic shit and parenting in a damn video game.

Most of the time I've spent on it this week has been killing bears and shit.

^^^ i just finished too and am at 95%... still need to get rank 10 for master hunter (at 7 now), buy some safe houses and 1 more rare weapon, and complete a few outfits

have really enjoyed the game - actually didn't mind all the ranching stuff at the end, only because i thought it fit in well with everything prior to and afterwards (though, 2-4 missions may have been better than the 6-8)

any tips on knifing a bear? i usually shoot one 3-4 times with a rifle, then every time i get close to try to finish it off, two more show up and it's over

there is a "camp" up in bear country that has a couple old shacks in it. I think you took out a handful of indians during a mission there. I would always go there and have the bears chase me and run into the shack as they couldn't fit into the front door. and from there you can safely knife at them while they're still trying to get in.

I think I just need to win five finger filet and pick up 2 outfits.

^^ I just shot one in the ass with the buffalo rifle then knifed him on his first pass, took medicine, then knifed him on his second.

^^I'd let the bears chase me to the shack, but then when I'd get on the roof of the shack (or maybe the top of the wall if there wasn't a full roof) the bears would run off like they knew they didn't stand a chance

Rockstar really made a mistake by going 100% on the zombie thing and not giving this world a true western expansion pack.

I'm not a big fan of zombie stuff, but it was a pretty neat add-on. All the characters are back the game play is slightly mixed up so it isn't too tiresome.

*Spoiler*
It was nice to see the Antisemite shopkeep get his, but I never understood why John was so tolerant of other people but not to Bigfoots who "eat babies."

Tolerant? You can put a bandana on and run around killing everyone in that game.

Undead Nightmare was actually pretty sweet. I'm debating going for 100% on it.

Just beat this. Fucking awesome ending.

I thought the game was "done" with John got back to the ranch, and that the family missions were pointless. Very glad I decided to go through all of them, even if a few were kinda lame.

Debating on going for 100% or starting over and playing through as Infamous rather than Famous.

^^ Just finished 100% on Undead Nightmare. Its not nearly as hard to complete as the original. Plus you get to kill a chupacabra, ride the 4 horses of the apocalypse (and get their blood pacts), and tame a unicorn.

My biggest hurdle is killing the undead animals with a torch for the ambient challenge. Everything else seems pretty manageable.

Just stay on one of your horses of the apocalypse and swing away. They can't knock you off.

If your riding Death or War, don't move at all while the animals are attacking you. If you do they will catch on fire (War) or their heads will blow up (Death)

God the tutorials in this game are fucking terrible. Good thing it is easy enough. I almost had a stroke trying to lasso horses.

Ready for a draw? Ok get ready to speed read this whole paragraph in the top left hand corner. Hold L2 while pressing back on the right analog stick and press R1 with R2, then press left on the directional pad. While doing that move the left analog stick in a clockwise fashion. Ok did you get all that? Draw!!!!

I don't understand how these design flaws in a game with a budget this big make it out. The only thing good about this game so far is the story and setting. Everyone else is doing sandbox games better than Rockstar at this point.

Dueling seemed like one of the easier things to me. It says draw so I pulled L2 to aim... then I just moved the crosshair up and started hitting R2 where I wanted to shoot. Time runs out and I fire all my shots.

Lassoing was tricky though, as well as horseshoe throwing.
Also, I hated shooting that damn gatling gun.
