The spot one was pretty hilarious...

I'm not sure how far you are into it, but the Spot storyline goes on for quite awhile until it reaches a stunning conclusion.

EDIT: AT episode 53, to be precise

"In the new Star Trek movie, Uhura orders a Cardassian something drink at the bar, even though the Cardassians were discovered in TNG! wtf is going on here?"

at first I was taken aback by that as well, but we only first saw the cardassians in TNG... I know there was a federation-cardassian war before the beginning on TNG. (Miles O'brien was in the war serving on the Rutledge and was also on the pilot of TNG serving on the Enterprise, which puts the date of the cardassian war before TNG.)

My point is, we don't know when the cardassians were first encountered, only that they became major players sometime between TOS and TNG.

"Actually the episode in TNG wasn't really the first contact. It was only the first time the Cardassians were featured on the show. They made first contact sometime more likely around the mid 22nd century. They were just all backwards and shit.

There is evidence of a cardassian living on Vulcan during the 22nd century..."

Just to bring this to the new page...cause I brought my nerd answer here first

he extended the shields around the defiant, it had lost shields and was on a collision course with the cube

haha

I just watched the clip

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrancN6_yYA#t=2m50s

I guess they could temporarily drop shields to beam since the borg cube was firing at like 50 targets, but who knows

newer ships, such as Voyager and newer, supposedly had the ability to drop half-shields, such as fore or aft

I just saw the last 30 minutes of Insurrection...

god damit, Star Trek.

As far as the Enterprise beaming people from the Defiant, as long as the Defiant's shields were down, it's possible. Depending on the needs of the plot, a ship can often beam through its own shields.

"Will there ever be another series?"

they really need to do another one but they need entirely new producers and writers as the core of them were to the point where they were just rehashing their own ideas over and over again, this was a big reason of why voyager failed because it was most of the tng writers who just rehashed those episodes

maybe you could get jj abrams to do it, he def did a good job with the movie

I tend to like the Next Generation movies less and less as time goes by. I guess the underlying problem is that you can't do what TNG did best, thoughtful examinations of what it means to be human, on the big screen. Not under the Star Trek banner. If it is in space, there has to be laser gun fights and bad guys.

Nemesis is filled with problems... but wouldn't it be obvious that if there is an area where long range communications are blocked due to some rift on the way out of romulan space, that it would the spot where the evil cloaked ship would attack??

Not very, most hive mind species in scifi have queens. Since they are based on ants/termites
