Does the coach in waiting thing at Maryland not bother anyone else? That seems like a debacle on par with Paul Hewitt's contract to me. You shouldn't allow someone to name their successor unless they've won a hell of a lot more than fat Ralph has, and now they don't have enough money to rectify the situation in football anytime soon.

So we just spent a couple of months putting together a search group, hiring a search firm and getting all our fans hopes up again, to just hire the sister of our former WBB coach.

She didn't hire Williams, but she has had run ins with MD's HoF coach and hired MD's version of Chuck Amato - but the difference is that he's still there. Either she'll be Woodson's puppet in the AD office and it will work out or Woodson just lost ALL of that good will he's built up. I feel awful for Purcell though.

She also went out and hired women's basketball coach Brenda Frese in 2002. I am cautiously optomistic for Debbie Yow's success at NC State. She is by all accounts a very bright and driven leader, but it is tough to project how her style will fit at NC State. If nothing else, she will certainly shake up some things that have been a bit stale/complacent under Fowler. However, this is certainly far from the apparent home run many people were hoping for, and I think a lot of people expected Bobby Purcell if we didn't land that clear cut home run (I personally didn't see it playing out that way.

My read into this hire is that Woodson must have been seeking a seasoned AD that wouldn't be heavily influenced by the boys' club that has gotten NC State into some political trouble in the last year and a half, and Debbie Yow would fit the bill.
