Put your job search experiences and any tips IIT.
I've been looking for nearly 2 months now. I try to find as many job openings as I can every day, and have sent applications to as many as I can. However, I have yet to even so much as hear back from any of them. For a while I was too nervous to apply to many of them because they were asking for types and quantities of experience that I didn't have, but I've mostly gotten over that. It seems to make fuck-all difference, however. I'm really starting to think that I raped the pooch by leaving my last job. It may have been a truly shitty job, but at least I was employed.
Only advice I have is to apply to any and all jobs, even if you're not confident you meet their minimal qualifications. Even if they say no, you're no worse off. 8/15/2010 8:37:22 PM |

Software development/programming. A gigantic part of my problem is that I have very little web development experience, and 9 out of every 10 jobs I find is for web development.

Mostly back-end development type of stuff, although I've built a job-scheduling program that's database-backed and has a GUI to use it. I hate to call myself a java code monkey, but that unfortunately may sum me up fairly well.
No I have not checked the tech jobs thread. Didn't know it existed.
And fuck me, of course there's a preexisting similar thread.

Then again, this isn't necessarily a thread about getting help with finding a job. It's meant more for people to share their stories. 8/15/2010 9:34:27 PM |
