In my first visit to High Hrothgar, I did not get the third part of Unrelenting Force, I only got the second part ROH.

In reading wikis and such, it seems like I was supposed to. Anyone remember where they got DAH?

I do heavy armor with 1 hander/shield and try to tank for Lydia with two handers. I still take a ton of damage and cant dish it out worth shit, although I switch to dual wielding sometimes - still can't block though.

I use enchantments on all of my equipment, but damn does it get annoying having to recharge my weapons al of the time.

Getting my shit pushed in on the first Companions mission

Combat is better than previous games, but still awkward, particularly when it's one-on-five

I do a lot of hit-n-run with my character, where I'll sneak attack with my bow and then hide behind stuff until enemies go back to their regular boredom. That helps cut down on 1-on-5 fights.

I got to level 27 before I figured out you could mine ore. Mining makes me feel like I'm playing Runescape again.

screw the companions missions. I had a mission later where i HAD to take Vilkas as my follower on the mission, so my Khajit follower, Khajro was dismissed and now he is gone and I can't find him anywhere.

So can your companions really not die? I've been reluctant to allow them to follow me cause I wanted to save them to when I really need them. But if they can't die, then is there a downside to taking them with you?

oh they can die.

I ran into a blood dragon that two shot Lydia dead. Not on her knees taking a breather, but sprawled out dead

Every follower that's been hanging out with me has died.

Maybe I should give them some armor and weapons.

They can take quite a beating. Its generally rare that my follower will go down in fight, even when bosses, dragons or giants. Granted i've had to reload a few times due to Lydia dying, most often situations in dungeons where you fight a ton of enemies at once. This is actually why I started to make my character more of a tank, since I can manage the damage a lot easier through pots and interruptions while she performs the role of braindead DPS (insert WoW joke)

I've found that followers drop to a knee and unless you hit them with the final blow they won't die, generally this has held true.

that's usually the case, but Khjaro is the guard of the traveling caravan. I first encountered him in Riftin (where he gave me a quest)

I turned his quest in at Dawnstar and he became my follower at Windhelm. So to find him again I travelled to each location and waited 24 hours, finally found him again at Dawnstar.

^^Generally speaking, you're never going to be putting out a ton of damage with a 1hander/shield to be comparable to a 2-H or dual wielding. I started using a shield because I would die way too fast either dual wielding or 2-handing, but with a shield you get some survivability. I've off set the low DPS by putting points into dual-wielding for situations where I don't need the shield and other one-handed perks to increase my speed and damage, along with using enchanted weapons. You definitely notice when your weapon loses charge though.

How do you people fight dragons? I spent an hour last night with a blood dragon, mostly trying to snipe a dragon to make it attack me and then reloading whenever it killed me . I would get annihilated when it would flame breath me from the air or right after it landed. Fortunately, it fought a giant nearby which took it to about half health, and when it landed later I think to attack Lydia I got behind it and used my dual wielding to kill it. Level 19 Nord, and I don't have a lot of fire resistance.

so far i'm early in the main story (went off to do thieves guild and leveled a lot)

primarily taken archery and 1h has been a backup.

Its tricky to get them out of the air, but once they're down I've been lucky enough to have someone get their attention that I can pick them off, and if I don't have someone I try to find a rock to strafe around and use as cover during breath attacks.

^if i have a follower, it focuses on it while I hack the shit out of it...if i don't have a follower I shoot arrows at it until it lands, circle to its side and hold the power attack. Keep hacking and spraying it with destruction magic (i haven't lvld my destruction, its really low) and when he takes off again, i hide somewhere and use my healing magic, run out and repeat.

^^^ As a sword and shield warrior, Ideally fight it where you can hide behind something when it's in the air breathing fire. Also get the elemental protection perk for blocking asap, helps greatly against both dragons and mages. Shield bash works on dragons also.

I don't use any magical equipment so I don't really have to worry about charges.

have you been putting a lot of points into heavy armor? also what kind of armor are you wearing? I had this issue a while back especially against 2 hander wielding mobs, but after getting some armor upgrades (mix of dragon & daedric), and putting several more points into heavy armor perks, i have no issues dual wielding, even against giants (level 25).

for those who have done the shrine of azura quest, is it better to get the azuran priestess? as a follower or to keep lydia as a follower?

Add a few more questions to the pile:

* Can you use a dragon as a mount? I'm guessing you can't, but that's the first thing they should make a mod for. Witch King mod.

* I take it you don't really have all that much control over whether your companion equips an item that you give them. I've heard of people giving companions light armor that was better than their heavy armor but they never equipped it. I guess certain companions use certain things, like companion x is a heavy armor, 2h weapon user and that's it.

Do companions level skills like you do?
If you give them an enchanted weapon does the enchantment run out like it would if you used it, or is it infinite?

The Black Star is infinitely better than giving it to the Azura priestess.....it absorbs Black souls and makes enchanting trivial

That being said, I'm sure I will miss out on something from Azura since I blasphemed her

I guess I should note that I was dying heavily with two handers/dual wielding within like, the first 5 levels

I've started putting points into heavy armor though, so hopefully it works out. Some of the perks are so shitty though, like "Unarmed hits do more damage"

Yeah that one isn't especially useful, but it is awesome to run through a dungeon of bandits and smash in their heads with just your fists.

If brawling were harder that might be worth it

Regretting Magic. And blindly leveling from smithing/alchemy aka eating things off the ground. Most stuff that fights me can eat a lot of ice spikes before even slowing down, much less dying. May go shield/stabby. Is there any reason Light Armor is better then Heavy?

It weighs less, you regen stamina better, you can sneak better, heavy armor slows you down until you get high level in it.

I was thinking about making a light armored 2 handed build, which would be able to swing more powerful hits against a heavy 2 hander, but also be more squishy.

Not even knowing that, that's what I set up. I'm a Nord with a really dark long beard, use a 2H weapon (or a bow), and am leveling up smithing with LA as much as I can.

Oh, and I just killed Astrid and will be wiping out the Dark Brotherhood during my game.

What breath element do dragons use? One attacked me somewhere east last night, and it was transparent. Was expecting blue/red. If it was fire, I guess I'm lucky I'm a breton and have 40FR boots, because it didn't do a lot of damage

Lol, I did the same thing. I also tried the voice that makes you immune to damage for 20 seconds and that didn't work either.

You can keep asking the Graybeards for directions to other words of power in the world and they'll mark the locations on your map one at a time. Thinking about picking up as many as I can though that before continuing on with normal quest stuff.
