Clausen had probably one of the worst 10 seasons by an NFL quarterback of all time, and Lafell and Gettis still managed 1000 yards between them. Cheap labor is king in sports, and those guys are making peanuts.

What terrifies me is that one of our starting corners as of today is shorter than I am. That's why I've been on the Samuel/Rogers bandwagon these past few days.

[Edited on August 4, 2011 at 2:10 PM. Reason : Also, even tho I hate him, I think Kendric Burney's gonna be a player]

agreed. and if Gettis can manage an 8 catch 125 yd 2 TD game from the likes of Matt Moore, regardless if it was against the 49ers, he can do it again.

we need CB badly. i think the panthers will be committed to our young WR's and let that play out. we have GOT to get someone in to play CB. Gamble is a farce, Marshall is gone, Munnerlyn is NOT a starting CB in the NFL. Does he play hard? yes. Is he the kind of CB you put against someone like Larry Fitzgerald in Week 1? NO.

Absolute must.

More concerning than Fitzgerald is White, Jones, Williams, Winslow, Colston, Moore and all those guys we have to see 2x a season.

In this division, after QB, cornerback is arguably the most important position.

not sure I would really consider Cotchery a 'big name' receiver

"During his question and answer session with fans prior to the Panthers' practice Wednesday night at Wofford, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was asked if there was a chance of a Super Bowl in the Carolinas one day?

"Super Bowl in Carolina? That's a good one," Goodell said.

"The owners have so much respect for Mr. Richardson that it wouldn't surprise me but hosting a Super Bowl has really become pretty complex. The minimum hotel space is 30,000 hotel rooms. The events around the game itself are extraordinary. One of the things Mr. Richardson has put an emphasis is on is the stadium. We have a number of wonderful facilities around the country. That's our stage. It's the core of it. You put a great one here in Carolina."

Naanee is alright. Nothing special. He had a chance to shine in SD last year but didn't take advantage.

it's a decent pick up with some upside

worst case scenario he's a guy who knows the playbook and can eat up some snaps so our rookie qb isn't throwing exclusively to inexperienced WRs (like last year). best case we have two guys 6'2+ with speed in him and gettis for a few years

I like the Naanee pick up. It's not a stellar name but he has shown professionalism and consistency in being able to compete and complete a play. He is not a number 1 WR, which we don't need, but can add experience on the field and help be a possession receiver. I still would like to see Cotchery come come this way...

We should probably go with the best corner available and hope he turns into a lockdown guy in next year's draft.

[Edited on August 4, 2011 at 9:25 PM. Reason : although i would love either of those guys too if we somehow ended up with them]

some caller made a good point on some show today, cant remember which probably the drive, about how the panthers basically had shitty corners during the super bowl season, but that they played their role in the system...obviously didnt hurt we had a beast d-line but you think Rivera has something in mind picking up like 5 tight ends for every 1 corner

Rivera plays mostly zone, with safeties deep on every play. He doesn't ask a lot from his corners the way Rex Ryan other blitz-happy defensive coaches do. Hell, Antonio Cromartie used to complain that the Chargers didn't play enough man coverage. They shipped his ass out because he was too stupid to play zone. And because he couldn't tackle for shit.
