It's a stupid premise. 9-7 is not equal across years. Our OOC schedule is why we even have a chance. Our ACC schedule was the easiest combination in the conference this year.

They probably got a bonus. They solved their #1 problem... what do we do with all these tiger stripe shorts?

Work them into Cincinnati's uniform.
Great idea, kinda like the Bengals and they are also in Cincinnati... but we have a LOT of tiger stripe shorts.
Well, make Baylor and Louisville wear them too.
Problem solved.

What does that even mean? Dude is such a hack State blogger! You know he's not a journalist, right? I've never had any issue with his posts. Lots of informative stats and whatnot mixed in with good ol' self-deprecating State humor. Though there's not much to compare, it's the only State blog worth reading.

Our new Adidas uniforms for next season:

I'm ok with the colors, I don't even mind the highlighter green. The camo tiger stripe shit looks stupid. Why not have uniforms that look like wolf fur or something?

Interested to see how Zeller does in the pros, assuming he can stay healthy. Caucasian American big guys have been notoriously awful, be David Lee and Kevin Love may be changing the tide.

I don't get Hamilton for COY. I mean, FSU was pretty good and all, but they really didn't do anything remarkable except for Dulkys lighting up UNC, and they got swept by the Ivy League.

Interested to see how UConn plays with Calhoun back and the games important. They certainly have talent to make a deep run. Would suck for a 5 seed to see them as a 12..

^ 12-4 and wins over Duke and UNC. K and Roy have 5+ burger boys and barely finished higher. No other real choice..

You can argue giving Bennet the nod.

I'd still go with Hamilton...but Bennet faced a little adversity in having Sene out for most of the year and I think they had a transfer or two.

I'd think K, Roy, Bennett, and Gottfried all require some consideration over Hamilton.

I mean, he's been there forever, and it's nobody's fault but his that he didn't get the 5 star guys.

K and Roy fielded better teams, Bennett did well with a pretty unique style in the ACC and a lot of guys leaving the program, and Gottfried did a lot to improve a bunch of guys that he didn't recruit.

I'm not saying Hamilton didn't have a good season, I just think it was just kinda unremarkable.

Gottfried deserves little consideration. If you don't have a tourney spot locked up by March, you really can't argue that he deserves it over any of the 3-4 coaches that have.

well, it could be argued that unc could have any coach in the acc and would still have a tourney spot locked up, doesn't have a whole lot to do with who's coaching a team of all-americans.

It kinda does though, at least in my opinion. Roy and K have huge advantages every year, so it would take a truly remarkable season for them to be COY, while teams like FSU, UVA and State are consistently mediocre, so when one of them goes 12-4 in league play, its a pretty big deal.

It's not a lifetime achievement award. COY doesn't have to be for somebody new.

Hamilton's team crushed UNC by a ridiculous margin and beat Duke in Durham. They were also clearly the 3rd best team in the conference.

ACC Coach of the Year
Leonard Hamilton, Florida State (21)
Mike Krzyzewski, Duke (20)
Tony Bennett, Virginia (9)
Mark Gottfried, NC State (5)
Roy Williams, North Carolina (3)
Brad Brownell, Clemson (2)
Mark Turgeon, Maryland (1)

Jim Larranaga, Miami (1)

wtf

^^That's not what I'm saying though. Not to say anything good about UNC, but objectively Roy should have won it because he got the best recruits and won the most games. Recruiting is like 90% of coaching these days anyway. Maybe anybody could have done that just on the UNC name, but idk.

My point about Hamilton is that the team he fielded is his own guys, and he didn't win the most games. I just make a special case for new coaches because they didn't have the opportunity to recruit all their own players yet.

Hamilton or Bennett were the only logical choices this season IMO. What did K do to deserve any recognition? He needed multiple miracle comebacks with a bunch of McDonalds AAs and should have finished 4-4 at home in ACC play if not for the NC State comeback. The 8-0 on the road is amazing, but he did not deserve to nearly win the award.

flipside of this argument is that they were a buzzer beater and an OT loss away from finishing 15-1

no problems with Hamilton winning it though.

^do you not agree though? how many surefire NBA players on this Duke team? Rivers, yeah.(probably) Mason? after that...

definitely not a hugely talented team, regardless of high school accolades

I don't see any way what he did this year within the ACC is better than what Hamilton did. It's not the MOST talented team he's ever had but it's not barren either. FSU doesn't have near the overall talent that Duke or UNC has, but they played better team basketball (notably on the defensive end) than either did.

If they ended 10-6 or 9-7 then sure, I'd agree with K being the choice, but we're talking a one-game difference including beating the two teams in front of them once.

i dont have a problem with Hamilton winning it, I just think K was certainly in the discussion

Hamilton lost to Harvard and Princeton, Duke beat Kansas and Michigan State

as long as it was one of those two coaches winning, i'm fine with it
