unless I missed it, you all fail.

saying pork BBQ is redundant. BBQ is pork. BBQ is not chicken nor beef nor a verb, no matter what them outsiders says.

Not according to Merriam.

But I'll concede as long as you concede a toboggan is ONLY a sled!"

The accepted english dictionary says you are both wrong... BBQ is a way to describe the way of cooking (any meat, even fish), and a toboggan is most certainly a sled AND a hat

sorry to distract from the original topic, just had to clear up some real quick

http://kccbigcountry.hubpages.com/hub/Whether-You-Ride-or-Wear-A-Toboggan-Depends-on-Where-Youre-From

only you damn yankees would try to say it is only sled - yankees ruining another good bbq thread

little known fact: most of subway's ingredients are actually made from a proprietary blend of cardboard and saw dust.

Cooper's sucks and Smithfield's sucks! At Cooper's the texture is good, but the flavor sucks. At Smithfield's the meat is too fat and chunky.

Give me The Pit or Q Shack any day.

back in 2011, on page 1...this is correct:

Quote :
"I love Stephenson's BBQ out near McGee's Crossroads in Garner/Clayton and Smithfield's BBQ (probably my favorite)."

Stephenson's is my favorite. That's not to say I can't recognize other great BBQ....I certainly can. But most other BBQ pales in comparison to Stephenson's.

While I haven't tried their ENC style BBQ, everything I've had there is good. I usually get the brisket and outside of a couple misses, it's usually tasty as fuck. Sides are pretty great too. Plus you can get a kids meal platter with meat, a side, hushpuppies and a drink for like $5.

Smithfield's is fast-food BBQ, or maybe "fast-casual" BBQ (prob more like "fast-casual" quality...but often with a drive-through). I mean, it's great that it exists, for when you want some cheap BBQ, in a hurry, and/or there isn't a serious BBQ place around. It's never going to be great, but it's pretty much always going to be OK, day-in, day-out, at pretty much every location.

Comparing it to a no-bullshit, legit BBQ place is absurd, though. BBQ is to be cooked over wood. Period. If you aren't cooking it over wood, you are not a real contender.

It's a kid's plate, so you get less meat, but it's a big enough meal for me.

^^kids plate? well then...I'll take back what I said about it being a small portion. That's a fine sized meal for it being a kids meal.

And ^^^ is pretty spot on about Smithfield's. It's good, consistent bbq. It's not great, but it's never bad. For what it is (essentially fast food bbq), it's pretty damn good.

Smithfield's is "meh". I'd rather get fried chicken there than pulled pork. And while an Eastern NC BBQ man...I respect other styles.

I also had some Rodney Scott's bbq over the holidays...and while it was delicious, it reminded me of all the regular joints in Eastern NC (Bill's and Joe's) that I grew up eating.

The Pit's pork BBQ is very good, the Carolina Ribs are better, and the BBQ beans are phenomenal. However, all are horribly over-priced unless it's lunch prices.

I haven't really found a joint I couldn't live without. Most of the best BBQ I've had was home cooked by friends/acquaintances, not in restaurants.

One of my favorites though was Moore's in New Bern

I'm gonna have to try Grady's and Stephensons.

I think Cooper's has the best fried chicken I've ever had. Their sides are kinda lame, but they've got the meat situation on lock.

I do have to say I dont eat the bbq at q shack. I like the sausage/brats, hush puppies, and sweet potato fries. Also, the is banana pudding makes me sad. Tastes like banana flavored Jello pudding with 2 or three slices of uncooked banana and a vanilla wafer stuck in.

I just like that I can get a pint of bbq at smithfields for the same cost as a plate at the pit. both are very good. coopers needs to start accepting cards. bbq lodge is deplorable. also, nobody ever mentions old time bbq, which can be ok.
