The cast also includes Carey Mulligan, Bryan Cranston, Christina Hendricks, Ron Pearlman and Albert Brooks. Nicolas Winding Refn won Best Director at Cannes this year for it. The trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OSXZ_WVP94

Are you kidding me? Statham plays one character over and over again, he has no range. And even if you think Statham is better than Gosling the supporting cast of this movie blows The Transporter out of the water. I doubt any of you could name a single actor in The Transporter other than Statham without cheating.

apples and oranges. i love Statham. he fills a niche, and i very much enjoy most of his movies. Gosling is also a great actor, and this is not his traditional type of role, but based purely on the trailer in the OP this does look like a much better Transporter movie and a role that Gosling will fill very well

haven't seen the pusher movies, but i've heard good things. Vahalla Rising was awesome (absolutely beautiful movie, but i would not want to sit through again), Bronson was fucking awesome, based purely on his previous work i would watch this movie, and the trailer only makes me want to see it more

i'll bite and say Matt Schulze, but i only know that because he was in Fast Five and it was (no pun intended) driving me crazy trying to figure out what other role i recognized him from. and it's the same name as TKEshultz

but i just watched the trailer for Drive and it looks great. It has a much different feel than Transporter, you can tell it's a deeper film in just those few minutes. Honestly though, i'm not aboard this Carey Mulligan train that everyone in hollywood seems to be riding. She just does nothing for me, acting or otherwise. though i admit i have not seen An Education yet

Vulture picked this as their most anticipated movie of the fall:
Quote :
"1. Drive: We've seen it. We loved it. We're obsessed with the soundtrack. Nicolas Winding Refn's brutal, luscious Ryan Gosling neo-noir is Vulture's most anticipated movie of the fall, just because we can't wait to see it again. Just don't watch the too-revealing trailers, OK?"

Why would anyone care about anyone other than Statham anyway. The movie is all about him kicking everyone else's ass.

Because watching Jason Statham beat people up gets boring after like 5 minutes. I'm not going to fault someone for enjoying The Transporter, but personally I want a bit more out of a movie than Jason Statham beating people up interjected with implausible car chases.

Saw this today and really enjoyed it. Not as "action-y" as the trailer would have you believe but I knew that going in. The music was fantastic and all the LA night scenes were done quite well.

**possible spoiler**

Going in I did not know that there would be like, a Watchmen amount of gore. Seriously every death is an awesome bloody mess.

This was a very, very cool movie. Very stylish and well-done. Probably the most inventive and creative movie I've seen come out of this genre (I'm very hesitant to call it an "action movie") in a long time.

And Ryan Gosling is a much, much, much better actor than Jason Statham (that said, it is definitely like comparing apples and oranges). I like Gosling a lot.

What, are you 14 years old? Jason Statham is easily the most typecast "actor" since the guy who played Willow.

This was a mesmerizing film...it reminded me alot of Michael Mann's early films, just oozing style and atmosphere. The performances in general were really good, and Albert Brooks in particular was great. I loved the soundtrack and score too. Nicolas Winding Refn is a really talented director, his and Gosling's next film sounds awesome and insane.

It wasn't at all what i expected, but i thoroughly enjoyed it. This shouldn't even be compared to The Transporter at all. It fell into a void space between a drama and an action movie (action, based off the driving and violence scenes).

i thought this was a great movie.

stomping that dude out in the elevator was definitely gut-wrenching with the squishing noises.

i had a hard time at first separating Bryan Cranston's character Shannon from Walter White. seems like all he has done since Malcom in the Middle is Breaking Bad and Drive.

i will recommend this movie to anyone that asks about it.

Yeah the violence was kind of startling, even for somebody who's pretty desensitized to on-screen violence.

Cranston did an arc on HIMYM after Malcolm in the Middle, but his work on Breaking Bad obviously caught the eye of a bunch of casting directors. He's in a bunch of big movies coming out in the next year (Rock of Ages, John Carter, Argo and Total Recall are all pretty huge).

Thanks

Got this from Redbox

SPOILERS

Was awesome. I did think some of the silent parts stretched a bit too long. Also I rewound the part where he was interrogating that chick in the hotel like 3 times and turned the volume all the way up, still couldn't tell what she said.

Also I didn't really understand what the part with him threatening the redneck dude in the diner was supposed to show us.

I mean from The Italian Job, to The Transporter, to Crank, Jason Statham has certainly showed his range and ability to play a variety of roles.

While he has been in a few decent movies, and isn't particularly bad in them, don't confuse that with having any real talent for acting. The man is as one-dimensional as they come, and not even noteworthy at that capacity. The only people that rate Jason Statham as an actor are people who will see any movie, so long as it has a fast car in it.

^^ haven't seen it since the theater, but I believe the thing in the diner was the first time he got real gritty with someone. It showed us it was business to him, he wasn't trying to be these guys' buddy and he wasn't messing around when it came to other people putting him in a bad spot. He didn't fully go off on the guy, but it showed the audience that potential and his willingness to take things to a different level.

I liked it even though it was a bit slow in parts. I actually kind liked the slow pace of it between exciting parts; gives me time to digest wtf just happened and reflect just as the character does. Very old school way of telling a story. Plus the opening scene was pretty cool and exciting to watch, felt like you were actually committing the crime with them.

My two biggest disappointment with the film is that there wasn't enough car chases (considering the movie is called drive... he's mostly parked) and the quiet death of Cranston in the garage.

You praise the quiet, patient storytelling, then promptly decry the lack of explosions and a quiet death.

WHICH IS IT

Don't worry. That's it. It's done. There's no pain, it's over...
