For years I had an antenna to get over-the-air channels. Found out yesterday, if all you order is TWC internet then they send all the OTA channels over the cable for free. Now I don't need the antenna any more. However, I can't get ABC - is anyone else having this problem?

Yeah I'm doing the same thing. I think they black out ABC for some reason. I've been debating on whether I want to get an antenna for just ABC.

Do a rescan...I capped the GT game off TWC with the same level of service, so it worked as of at least 2 weeks ago.

Does anyone have a channel listing of all the 75.1, 75.2, etc. channels?

^I will do a rescan. Are you still able to get ABC? Does it ever black out for you?

I can't pick up OTA channels with the internal antenna of my 3 year old plasma tv. I have no idea why either.

Yes but it's my understanding that all the OTA HD channels are much better quality than the TWC ones and they don't cut out.

They are better quality. However, there is a bit of noise with OTA channels.

Also, I have yet to have the channels cut out.

I can't find it on TWCs site as to why they give these channel to road runner subscribers.

Noise? With digital? Just get a decent antenna. No matter the house I'm at there's always times when channels will freeze or get all blocky with TWC. Experienced this both in Raleigh and Charlotte.

^Maybe because they want you to hook up the cable to the TV and that's a step closer to you paying for full service.

Saying noise was a terrible choice of words.

I have to turn the antenna around a lot, and if someone walks by the signal can go in and out. A lot more hassle than just a cable hook up.

Yeah I've had RoadRunner only since May and I've just grown to accept that I can't watch live ABC. Lemme know if you figure out why they're doing this.

Yeah, ABC-HD still works for me. Try physical channel 99.x...for some reason they change the location of WTVD pretty regularly, but thats where its showing up now.

As much as I love not paying for OTA channels, this just annoys me to the point of almost crawling back to TWC for basic cable. Almost.

I lose ABC usually twice a year and have to do a rescan to get it. Annoying but better than messing with an antenna.

I built one of those OTA coat hanger antennas and it works great. I'm in Cary, about 2 miles south of Crossroads, and get every channel in the area with nearly perfect reception. Just dropped it behind the TV and you don't even have to look at it. Occasionally if it's really bad weather WUNC will cut out for a second or two, but for what little I watch network TV it works brilliantly.

I moved to the free TWC to get away from the bad weather.

Bought this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00122FCRG/ref=oh_o03_s00_i00_details

I now get ABC

And by bad weather you mean any time the wind blows more than 5mph

I've got a powered antenna and the only channel that gives me any grief is channel 5 for some reason. Wind will make channel 5 cliff out. It seems to go through spells as well. Sometimes channel 5 is rock solid, other times it's a maddening scenario where it drops out enough to make the channel unwatchable. This has happened on perfect weather days. Don't know what's going on there.

I always assumed that channel 5 had the closest broadcasting tower out of all of them. Maybe not.

Oh, and helicopters will also screw with my signal.

^^How do signal boosters like this work? I don't know the tech behind it, but I would think that if I had a weak signal coming in to my house, that putting this one wouldn't do much?

I pay for roadrunner and that is it. On one of my tvs I can hear about 100 stations, but the video comes in bad. If I were to say, buy this...would these channels then come in? Lol.

Isn't the point of a signal booster to boost a weak signal?

^i mean yes but I guess I don't understand how you can boost a weak signal on my end of things with a little device...wouldn't the boost need to be applied on the end that it originates from instead?

side comment: it seems this is primarily for cable modem signals - would this improve tv reception at all as well?

Well - since the TV signal I get is digital (and it sounds like yours is too) - it does boost it.

We've had one of these at my parents house for years and there TV goes out without it (they pay for TWC too). It's made a big difference here - not only do I get ABC, but it comes in perfectly. I can now watch Modern Family.

[Edited on December 14, 2011 at 8:02 AM. Reason : They also have a good return policy - just buy and if it doesn't work send it back]

i also don't understand how adding a booster to the receiver can do anything about the sender's signal...maybe the booster does something to increase sensitivity?

- Plug antenna in
- set TV to "Antenna" mode (opposed to "cable" mode etc)
- scan for channels

Must have TV with digital tuner.

Okay so I got rid of my Vizio and got a Samsung. Now I don' get 11-1 anymore. However, I reconnected the Vizio and 11-1 comes in perfectly.

Is the tuner in the Samsung that much worse?

We only pay for cable internet (through TWC) and we get nearly every channel in non hd free through the cable. I can access NBC, Fox and CBS HD channels fine, but ABC doesn't work in HD.
