I'm using having to train outside in the cold as an excuse to buy those sharper image headphone earmuffs

i don't know what kind of running pants you have but you should look into getting ones made with bamboo - they're really good at keeping the cold out. i get mine for the cheap at Marshalls

Let me check my brands but I just got a pair of Avia running pants from Marshall's and I ran a 5K in them this morning and they kept my legs really warm. Avia is a good brand and they sell them at Marshall's so I would check them out. I will check the other pair of running pants later on.

My suggestion with running in the cold is to make sure if you are wearing a running jacket (I'll run in a tshirt and a light NorthFace running jacket) that you have zipper pockets. A lot of times I will take off my gloves and ear warmers as my body temp goes up and having a place to stash my things is key.

I am 4 for 4. Will see what schedule looks like closer to race day.

I would be interested to see a map of the "new" course. Even though they still called it 4 miles last year, I clocked it at 4.7, so them saying it's now slightly less than 5 miles is truly not that big a change if you ran it recently.

She could run it, but I am having back surgery Thursday and am broken.

Bmp, we need to get this list up to 20, at least.

Remember, you don't have to eat the dozen donuts, so don't let that hold you back. All proceeds go to the NC Children's Hospital....and you get a t-shirt.

"What is the difference between a Challenger and a Casual Runner?

We’re glad you asked! All runners, whether you are a challenger or a casual runner, receive the same racer t-shirt. And it looks great on everyone! Also, both challengers and casual runners receive their own box of 12 Krispy Kreme Doughnuts! Delicious!! However, the true difference lies in the race itself. All Challengers attempt to complete the entire race, which includes eating all 12 doughnuts, in under 1 hour. Casual runners may choose to try to complete the challenge if they would like, but are not required. For our planning purposes, we will only scrutinize the finished doughnut boxes of those who register as Challengers. But challengers and casual runners alike are encouraged to have as much fun as possible!!"

I might try it then... I am on a strict diet trying to lose weight, and I will get sick if I try to eat a dozen doughnuts after eating healthy that long. What date is it? I'm trying to work up to running that far so hopefully I might be ready by then.

Mix of both casual and competitive.

I would prob die in a diabetic coma if I ate a dozen of those doughnuts. Not saying I don't want to eat a dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

[Edited on December 5, 2011 at 12:25 PM. Reason : after reading it says I wouldn't have to eat them. Who does that???!!!]

Amna, the first time I ran it my friend didn't eat any, but I ate them all... It was nice to have someone offer to get water while I was stuffing those things down

Wish I could do this again

I'm signed up, competitive. I forgot to fill in the team name, though.

I went running last night to see how bad a shape I'm in, did 2.5 miles in 20 minutes, and my legs didn't fall off.

So what's the prevalent strategy here? Run the first half as fast as you can, eat, saunter back?

That's pretty much what I'm doing. First 2.5 miles in 20 minutes. Eat in ten. Walk and puke the next mile and then run as needed to bring it home under an hour.

I was planning on cramming those doughnuts down my throat in like 5 minutes or less. Is that being overly optimistic?

^^ No idea, I've never done this before. That's why I'm doing the first half relatively quickly.

I haven't done this before either and if I could dothe first half that fast I would haha. But i'm pretty sure if you just squish them all down and get rid of the air you could finish the dozen in about 5ish minutes.

I'd practice this before hand but..... I just dont want to

^yep, that's the best way to eat. Mash the first six together and eat and then mash the next six. I really need to start practicing that. Because it is easier said than done.

I'm deliberately staying away from doughnuts until the race because I don't want to make myself sick of them.

Tomorrow, I'm doing 2.5 and eating a handful or so of marshmallows and then another 2.5, see where that gets me.
