He's like the most earnest, unassuming dude to ever pick up a basketball, and the results are extraordinary. I don't know if there's anything that he needs to actually verbalize--his play speaks for itself.

Guy is a legend. With a better supporting cast this season would be talked about with the greatest ever in the ACC.

I love TJ like I haven't loved a state bball player in a long time.

BUT...

He has GOT to watch the ticky-tacky fouls. He seems to get frustrated when he misses a shot and goes for cheapies. He almost got a few in the first half that would have killed us.

Clean that up TJ ... you're too good for that crap.

I think he does get frustrated sometimes and reach in, but it's fairly rare

I mean, I think that's one of his few weaknesses. Reach in fouls.

His reach ins causes a lot of steals for his #Buckets. Its a part of his game we've got to accept.

Yup. You can't cheer for his many steals/easy points then knock him for getting the occasional reach-in foul...and you especially can't chalk it up to him being upset about a missed shot

he absolutely is guilty of a few dumb reach-in fouls per game, sometimes after a missed shot

that doesn't take away from his greatness, but to pretend like he doesn't is absurd

and most of his steals come from getting his hand into the passing lane, not reaching in

^exactly.

Most of his dumb ones come in the backcourt after the other team gets the rebound. Even if TJ gets a clean steal, the ref is almost always going to call a foul there. Just too much risk and very little reward.

Does he even average "a few" fouls per game...much less "a few dumb reach-in fouls" per game?

TJ gone.. and fading
Everything. .
And all that could have been

Please go pro.
Take this and run far away
Far as you can see
We are tainted
And happiness and winning
Were never meant for us
All these losses
Empty promises and left behinds
If only you could see
We are nothing.
You were everything.
Everything we had.

Learn from our beloved holy ghost RW you must leave the Wolfpack Nation to reach your true inner greatness. Many promising young souls were lost trying to save this sinkin ship . Go forth and don't look backk into the abyss of the Wolfpack Nation.

Such a shame to waste such a great talent. RIP.

Tone? Did you miss the part where I said I love TJ more than any state player in a long time? We can't win without the guy, so I'd prefer him not taking unneccessary risks and possibly picking up cheap fouls 90 feet from the basket. What's wrong with that?

I agree posting that in the TJ thread maybe wasn't the right place to do it -- but I don't see how saying that makes me "awful." Geez people.

^^^^^ hahaha, bronco.

Tj with the most points in a single season in State history...and he missed that MD game. Wow.

He dropped 25 last night and he struggled in the first half as much as I've seen him struggle all season. He's an incredible talent.

I agree that TJ at times makes foolish swipes at the ball, mostly when the opposing team gets a defensive rebound. But that is a minor flaw, and if it keeps him playing aggressive all game then I'll take a foul or two from that. If some one told me I could have either Hodge or TJ for a single season in their prime, I would take TJ right now.

@GoodmanESPN: One thing I really like about TJ Warren is his demeanor. Seems to have really matured. Heck of a player."

Maybe this tweet comes off as condescending because I'm biased and Goodman's been known to troll State before anyways. But to say TJ Warren "matured" would seem to imply that he was immature last year as a freshman. That was never the case. He just had a lesser role on the team last year. He's always come across as a pretty level headed, mature player...even as a freshman. He's always had the demeanor of a player who is never out of control...always collected and playing within himself.

Like people have said, it's part of his game, and the refs seems to let him to get away with a little extra contact a lot of the time. Especially when his jumper wasn't falling early yesterday, getting some cheap points off a steal gets him going. You can't tell him to stop, anymore than you can tell a mobile QB to just stay in the pocket.

That goes back to the douche Jeff Goodman. Back before last season even started he was observing our practices and he tweeted shit about Warren's demeanor suggesting he won't be happy taking a backseat to our returning starters. Turns out, he should have been saying that about Purvis and not Warren.

Goodman is a dickbag.

I spent 45 minutes drafting, redrafting, and deleting hate mail for Jeff Goodman. Warren was likely more mature at 12 years-old than Goodman is now. And it bothers me a great deal that he feels comfortable even having an opinion about TJ.

And I can't wait to get home to watch the Hodge video.

^^Yeah, hard to really compare the 2 since Warren did it in several more games(6 more games to break it). Thompson averaged 5.1 more points per game that season than TJ did this season.

competition was also higher in the 70's

which doesn't mean Warren isn't a ridiculously great scorer, it's just that David Thompson is in a class of his own

all this this is true (and no shot clock. and freshman didn't play on the varsity team.... and all non-shooting fouls were one-and-one, no double bonus? (i don't know if that's right))

i was just pointing out that TJ now holds the record.

From the article "Five players capable of taking over the NCAA Tourney"

Quote :
"
T.J. Warren, North Carolina State

Aside from McDermott, Warren is probably the most important player to his team in the country. He is an opportunistic scorer who can hit jumpers from both the mid-range and outside. He is most exciting, however, when he takes the ball directly at the defense, essentially daring the other team to stop him.

And few have been able to.

His 24.90 point per game average is good for third in the nation, and he has accounted for an incredible 34% of his team’s points on the season, along with leading the team in rebounds (7.2) and steals (1.2) per game. It's just about impossible to translate into words how exciting it is to watch T.J. Warren play basketball. If you have seen him play, you understand what that means. If you haven’t seen him, sit back and enjoy the ride.
