Yeahhhhh....I didn't understand that. We just assumed it was because of the heat, but if that's how he handles every game, he will definitely lose -500,000,000,000 credibility points. The players have always, in my opinion, liked that and dancing around in celebration.

They'd rather go back to the locker room and celebrate in the A/C.

I don't care if they don't dance around after wins, where has that got us? Time to establish some new traditions. I hope they figure out how to show fan and school spirit and appreciation but I will take 40 point offensive showings and wins as priority over dancing after beating a team you should beat.

That's silly.

I find it amusing that some fans get personally offended when the coach asks them to stay to the end of the game.

I bought my tickets the morning of the game, went for the first half, then my gf had to go to work. Plus it was hot as shit. He's lucky I showed up for the first half. Those tickets would have gone unsold if I hadn't bought them (maybe)

I wonder what the prevailing sentiment would be if we were given unlimited time to tailgate prior to the game, but in return, couldn't re-enter after leaving during halftime. Personally, I'd rather have the extra time before the game, but I rarely leave the stadium at the half anyway.

late in the third quarter, you could tell that the biggest driver of people leaving was the sun. The dail towers side (shady) was still relatively full, and the opposite side looked like Kenan.

I think people could get behind this but the administration has shown a reluctance to ease up rules.

If they wanted to eliminate pass outs, I'd be totally fine with that. But I definitely left at halftime because it was hot as shit. 12:30pm start time for a game in late August is bullshit.

In summary:

Shitty opponent + blow out win + "hot as balls" = halftime/2nd half exodus

If one of those three were not true, the result may have been different. With that said, support your motha fuckin team and stay the whole game! Shitty opponent? Welcome them to Our State, and show them that we are a prideful and passionate fan base. Blow out win? Let's blow them out by even more, and let our team know that we appreciate their preparation and execution. Hot as Balls? Sunscreen and don't be a vagina.

Also, I am in favor of longer pregame tailgating and eliminating halftime passouts. Too bad people are not required to get their tickets rescanned when leaving, and get docked WPC points if they are a WPC member.

Obviously never going to happen. I have not missed a home game since 2003, and never once left prior to the end of a game. I do not sympathize with people who say they have leave early unless it is an emergency. Maybe I just care more than some other fans about NC State football, but that's my problem I guess.

With the sun and the heat, I can understand why some people would leave, especially the elderly or those with kids. I've even left early before in blow-outs so I could grill another hot-dog and have some beers in the parking lot. But I see absolutely nothing wrong with the coach asking the fans to stay, and find it kinda pathetic that people would complain about him saying that.

Haha, this turned into a 16 page thread on PP

^^ :patsonback:

Not everyone lives close enough to Raleigh to go to every game. My gf had to work early the next day, so we wanted to go hang out with our friends that we hadn't seen in a few months a little more before we headed back home. If sacrificing all your time just so you can be there for every minute of NC State football is your thing, that's fine. But I value the social aspect of NC State football more than making sure I stay until the end of a game that was clearly in hand.

i mean i've never left early. not for 105 degree games, not for torrential downpours, not for 37-0 shellackings by maryland. but i think it's ridiculous (and not a very good way to start off with your fans) to complain about people leaving that game in those circumstances.

Here's what he said

Quote :
"“The passion that our fan base has, we need them to be in the seats in the third and fourth quarter to be a great team,” Doeren said on Monday at his weekly news conference.

“You win big games in the third and fourth quarter. It’s great to start fast with a big crowd but it’s better to finish with one. That’s an advantage that we need to gain.”"

He's the freakin' coach. I see absolutely nothing wrong with what he said. It's silly that some fans are offended by that.

it is stupid to get upset by that. it's also kinda stupid that he brings up that mess about big games, since this wasn't one in the least bit.

For you older NC State peeps, was this ever an issue with Amato? I know TOB complained about it a few times, none more than that Virginia Tech game we lost after being up 17-0, then got shelled in the second half. We started the season 4-0 that year, and the stadium was electric all first half. The stadium was about half full by the time halftime ended because people left, and VT quickly rattled off a few scores while the atmosphere was depleted and sluglishly getting back into the game. TOB was pissed and ranted to the media about fans leaving, killing our atmosphere. In our fanbase defense, the coaches got way too conservative in the second half, and when we did throw deep, Russell was throwing picks.

I honestly believe we have an amazing atmosphere when the crowd is full, and into the game, and has helped our team win some crazy memorable underdog wins in the past.

As a fan, I go to games as if I have a job to. The best fan bases out there likely have this mentality as well. It will always come down to the players making plays, but a good crowd can be a difference maker. We can be that crowd. We have been that crowd before. We just are not that crowd consistently.

I don't think it's the wisest move to start calling out fans after Game 1 but he probably sees it like a football team - practice hard, play hard. Show up and stay against the cupcakes, do the same in the big games. And it's not like we have much of a warm up. Clemson is our first "real" game and it's about two weeks from now. He doesn't have time to see how fairweather we are.

I don't have room to talk because I don't go to every game but when I do I never leave early. I don't understand how that is such an unreasonable request barring extenuating circumstances. And no, "it's hot" isn't an extenuating circumstance unless your wife gets heat strokes.

So is this issue a result of product on the field? Are people leaving b/c they're bored of watching State play?

Or is the problem tailgating and partying is more fun than watching State play?

If the administration cut back tailgating (significantly reduced), would the same number of people still attend the games? If so, would they stay in the stands longer?

the problem was it was hot as balls and the 2nd quarter had a quite lengthy last 2 minutes so everyone decided to head up and cool off.

its not the product, its not the game..it was the heat.

that was as hot of a game as I've ever been to, and I've been to a ridiculous amount

it was absolutely miserable in our section (9), so we left on account of not wanting to hate life anymore

I don't see why that's a big deal

it will be a big deal if it's a big game in better conditions, but in that heat against that team? meh.

of course this is going to turn into some sort of a dick measuring contest

How many games is a "ridiculous" amount of games?

I can't speak for everybody, but I'd pretty much be done getting season tickets. I'd also gladly trade halftime passouts for more pre-game tailgating time. Cutting back tailgating time anymore than they already have would result in a fan meltdown.

Back on the thread topic at hand, however, Doeren is still very credible. Nothing wrong with what he said.

The only game I can recall just straight checking out on was the USF game a few years back where we left at half because it was raining cats and dogs and we were getting shellacked something like 24-0 at the half. We figured we had done our due diligence getting soaked for that performance.

I want the fan dedication but I don't think its fair to expect people to pay to be miserable.

Why is this even a question? Of course not. Hell the the 5 hours already feels restrictive, and you think they'd move to further restrict tailgating, especially significantly? That would absolutely wreck the atmosphere at games.

Saturday was pretty brutal in terms of heat and humidity. I cannot blame anyone for wanting to get out of the sun. For folks with young kids or the elderly, they probably should have got out of the sun after the 1st half any way. Nothing wrong with what DD said though as he is simply trying to do what's best for the team.
