DD reminds me of Derek Dooley. He just does not have the intangibles to succeed at a P5 program. Watching them both is like a trainwreck in slow motion

Can't find a better call on the 2 yard line than a fade??

Does any team get more formation penalties than us? I think that's our 2nd or 3rd td that came back bc a WR couldn't line up right

Doeren gets the blame for the fade call on the 2 yard line. You have to have a powerful 6'5" receiver to rely on that play.

BC is the worst major sports program in the country. Fucking embarrassing.

Games like this are why he shouldn't have played the Clemson game to beat the spread. He needed that win in his back pocket in case we lost a dumb one.

You gotta play to win every week that way if a team comes out flat like Clemson did you can capitalize with a win instead of a close loss

There seems to be 5 main points being made.
Quote :
"1. We lost to a bad team AT HOME
2. Our offense is awful and the play calling makes no sense
3. There is no discipline and we can't even line up correctly
4. DD should be fired for this loss
5.We are a "bad" program and have regressed
"

1.The fans remain one of our biggest problems. The high-pressure environment the fans have created with their unreasonable expectations does not lend itself to coaching success. It forces you to cut corners to try and create a national title contender out of thin air in 4 years. Also, we don't have home games anymore. It is a neutral environment at best. Unless we are playing a top team, our fans are very quiet sans when they are booing our own players for not dominating the first half. Worse than an empty stadium. A great environment would have probably been enough to put us over the edge today. Watch a top team when they are struggling. Wisconsin was ROCKING for the GSU game and probably made the difference. Our fans can't expect the team to get up for weak teams if they are playing in an empty stadium.

2. The fact of the matter is that we were devastated at WR by preseason injuries and haven't recovered. Its a blaring weakness and with our 3 wr's all injured for the season, we have had to force young, inexperienced players into their spots and it has set our entire offense back. Teams can load the box and we just don't have enough balance. No one could survive losing an entire position in year 4. You can't just play-call your way out of all your WR's being injured.

3. With surprise injuries DD had the choice to focus on making sure he put guys on the field who simply lined up correctly, or cut corners and try to put guys in positions to catch passes. With more focus on streamlining development of young players, you don't put as much emphasis on discipline.

4. This is an unacceptable loss and there is no defending it however, rational fans will not let one game mean more than what it is. There is a lot of football left to be played and I believe we can and hope we will turn things around because thats the difference between real fans and bandwagon fans. Just like this is one game, we can cancel it out with an upset win. That is why we will determine what should happen based on the entire seasons' body of work and not an emotional reaction to one game. We have four games to win 2 and make it an acceptable season.

5. Also remember that these games could have easily gone either way. We're a butterfly's flap away from being 7-1. Its not just our games either. Look at Tennessee, Louisville, Florida and Clemson. They have had wild games that could have gone either way too. Its just the nature of football. Someone has to lose each game and it doesn't mean a coach had to do something egregious. All of these coaches are making bad calls and mistakes here and there. BC wasn't going to lose every game forever. They were due to upset someone.

Teams Dave Doeren has beaten so far:

OOC

Louisiana Tech
Richmond
Old Dominion (2x)
Central Michigan
Georgia Southern
Presbyterian
Troy
South Alabama
William & Mary
South Florida
Central Florida
Notre Dame

ACC:

Syracuse (2x)
Wake Forest (3x)
Boston College
North Carolina

This list never seems to really grow. We just get a few more wins against the same conference oppononents....well, except BC. But the man sure knows how to beat Wake Forest, I'll give him that.

just read on twitter dot com that Jaylen Samuels, our best playmaker, had only 1 catch on 3 targets. He also attempted 0 rushes....Ryan Finley threw the ball 41 times.

Coach never think it was time to try and get the ball to his playmaker?

"On the other hand, this looks like a very strong hire. He's young so if he's successful we could have a good one on our hands for the next two decades. He has a great track record so far, and given how down the conference is right now we can definitely turn this program around in a few years time if he shows enough promise on the field to get us back in the recruiting mix."

this is a throwback but did everyone see the Redskins coach give up on trying to get more yards b/c he had a kicker (an NFL kicker...) with a "chip shot" and "gimme" and he missed it?

And thats with a good kicker.

I don't see how anyone could possibly believe this. He was always a risky hire. He only had two seasons of experience taking over a program that someone else built in a weak conference with a Heisman caliber QB.

The ONLY thing he had going for him was his youth. Another word for youth in the professional world is INEXPERIENCE. And that inexperience has revealed itself time and time again, and it was pretty goddamn apparent in season 1.

He jumped up the ranks too fast. He skipped too many steps. He basically pulled a discount Lane Kiffen. After NC State, he'll be an assistant somewhere (probably in the Big10), and maybe then he'll be given another shot, where he'll hopefully do better. But it ain't happenin' here.

it was the right idea. we're not going to be able to hire a good coach* when everyone in the country already knows theyre a good coach. you gotta take the big swing to hit a home run. we just missed

*well, there are ways. but they involve hiring bobby petrino's

After a point, its not the coaches. Its the program, the admin and the Univ that is the problem.

The fans are the only entity that deserves no blame in this mess.

^ it's from usa today's misery index. I've never heard of Dan Wolken. I thought naming position coaches "assistant head coach for offense/defense" was a fairly common practice. Could be wrong, though.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/college/columnist/dan-wolken/2016/10/30/misery-index-week-9-tennessee/93018092/

Still think we have a shot at 6-6. Think we can take care of business against cuse and win one against Miami/FSU/UNC.
