I want to replace my showerhead, but its stuck on pretty tight. How do I get that shit off? I don't see any teflon - I think its just rust or lime.

I'm probably just going to take off the two extensions and get some kind of block for one of them, but thats ghetto.

My old boss told me about some shit that would release any kind of fitting be it plumbing or car or wateva but I can't remember what it is. Any ideas?

This has been a Krallum query

I've always just been able to unscrew my showerheads. but if it's on super-tight, you might try using a vice-grip wrench.

that's all I've got (and it's Captain-Obvious-esque anyway.)

get something like a small can of Liquid Wrench penetrating oil and try to get it down in the joints as best you can. i'd apply it several times over a day and then see if you can get it off with a wrench.

after that i'd clean up the threads and apply some plumbers tape around the threads before installing your new head.

I have a vice grip and it doesn't budge. Either way, its like this:

So its not hard to grab both and try to turn it. It seriously does not budge at all. Idk when the house was built but its probably been there for like 15 years.

ask your local hardware shop owner what he recommends. there may be something better on the shelf but i have had success with LW.

I asked a guy in the plumbing section of a local major chain which I will not reveal the last time if there was any liquid lubricant/solvent/whatever and he said "Hmmm.... I suggest a giant pipe wrench". I was like "Thanks dude, applying force to it never crossed my mind"

I would probably stick a sturdy broom handle in between the 2 shower heads and try and break it loose that way. Give me a lever long enough and a place on which to rest it and I will move the world, or break the lever.

its like that splitter but a different shape. I don't think the two pieces are separated with that kind of a gap, but I can't really remember right off.

The main problem is that the length of pipe that comes out of the wall does not feel super sturdy and is probably not as strong of a material. I'm more afraid of fucking that up than anything else. Not afraid enough to call a plumber though.

Spray penetrating oil on the threads and walk away or a few hours. It doesn't matter what you do for those few hours but when you come back it should break free easier. If you dot have this spray cooking spray on the threaded surface

the pipe coming out of the wall, 99% of the time, is a threaded on both ends stub. You can just put a wrench on it, spin it out of the shower block behind the wall, and get a new one from lowes.

^truth

but if you got two pairs of channellocks, hold the ^pipe coming out of the wall and unscrew the showerhead with the other, you could probably get it off.

this will almost certainly damage the showerhead, though, so make sure you are set on replacing it

The teflon tape needs to wrap in such a way so that it doesn't unwrap itself as you tighten. So wrap it anticlockwise. Hold the first wrap of tape with your finger until the next overlap will hold it.

Or just smear some good pipe dope on it.

The key to using Teflon tape is you have make sure there is always tension on the tape between your hand and the spool. They also make stuff called pipe dope that is liquid Teflon it is a hell of a lot easier to use. You can find it near the Teflon tape in stores.
