I don't see either of those situations (hitting kid, kid's mom hitting skater) as being "fucked up".

- Kid and kid's mom need to be aware of surroundings
- Skater needs to watch where he's going
- Video guy needs to be aware of surroundings
- Mom overreacted, but also was probably amped up over her kid getting plowed over

Nothing "fucked up" about it.

kids run around aimlessly all the time, getting in the way of people without even knowing it. obviously it was an accident (which happen all the time with children at play, part of growing up) and the kid will be alright. I don't think that automatically gives the mom permission to attack the skater, but at least he kept his cool.

Had to watch with no audio due to my speakers being unhooked, but the video looks funny as hell that way.

I see an angry mom roll up on some punk that just mowed her kid down skateboarding irresponsibly and knocking the hell out of him.

All of those things are true except the last one because the mom WAY overreacted which is what makes it fucked up. Shit happens. Kids are at fucking knee level and you don't always see them out of your peripheral vision like you would an adult. She obviously didn't give a shit about whether her son was ok because she walked straight to the skater and started talking shit.

Hell, I would have even been ok with the mom yelling at the skater and telling him to watch where he is going. Sucker punching him straight off is bullshit, especially coming from a woman who knows he won't fight back.

Its not like the kid was running around inside a skate park, the guy was flying through a pedestrian area doing jumps. This would be like a car driving down the sidewalk fast and being surprised when it knocked an adult down.

the kid was running after his own skate board. the kid wasn't paying attention. the burden was on the kid to look where the hell he was going in an area where he and others were skating. irresponsible mom raising irresponsible kids, surprise surprise. i woulda busted that mom's dome so the kid could see what happens when you act like a fuckup

I think the appropriate thing to do is to press charges against the mother and aim for her to have some stretch, however brief, of incarceration.

This way the kid realizes there are real consequences to settling your disputes with violence.

My freshman year I almost got hit by a dude rollerblading near the Free Expression tunnel. He was trying to slide down the rail and had to bail out right in front of me. If he would have hit me, I guarantee I would have knocked him the fuck out.

As a parent...holy shit she totally overreacted.

Even I have knocked down my son bc he's running aimlessly and not looking where he's going. Yes the skater should have been keeping watch too, but he did all the right things--helped pick him up, say he was sorry, and stayed around to make sure the kid was okay.

^ lol, none really. But my point is that those dudes used to be reckless as shit. skating all around that crowded ass area when classes were changing. I'm not sure if people still skate out there, but it was starting to become a real problem.

Yeah that was a huge overreaction. This is how kids learn, if your kid hasn't been run over or knocked down a few times by adults then I am not sure what to tell you. The skater did everything right as far as I can tell by the video. If this was out on the street then I would put more blame on him, but if it was in a skate park like others have said then its as much the kids fault as the skaters.

Watch the video in full screen and check the trajectory of the 2nd board. That's the cameraman's board...he hopped off when the collision occurred.

It's clearly a public park adjacent to the skate park, or else people wouldn't just be walking around out there. I agree, the Mom should have had a better handle on her kid, but if it's a public area where people can walk around at their leisure, then they shouldn't be responsible for watching out for careless skateboarders. It's the skateboarders that have the responsibility to watch out for the people.
