Preliminary Thoughts... or way too early? But I am excited, just recently learned that James Spader is playing Ultron. http://collider.com/james-spader-avengers-2-age-of-ultron-interview/

Teaser: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jr5rzSMNmRM (nothing to do with Spader)

I'm not all that excited about Ultron, especially after the Thanos buildup at the end of the last movie... that said I don't know much about Ultron so we'll see.

The main issue is that thanks to the Iron Man series I'm completely exhausted with everything robot, cyborg, robot suit, etc. Moving from the first movie to a second where the antagonist is... another robot? seems very meh to me. An Iron Man suit with its own AI that gets out of control or SHIELD trying to create a suit like Tony's, I think I'll pass.

Is anyone else confused about Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch being in both Avengers and X-Men?

Also, I didn't know the Olsen Twins had another sister.

Avengers and X-men are the same universe, along with Spider-man and Fantastic Four, etc. I know I've read comics where spider-man is dealing with Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D.

How come Nick Fury didn't enlist any of the X-Men for the Avengers?

Man, if all of the Marvel comics take place in the same universe...that's a lot of hero'ing going on.

Yes, Ultimate Spiderman series, he actually works for/with Nick Fury.

He also becomes an Avenger at some point. So does Wolverine.

I'm pretty sure the current cinematic iterations of X-Men, Spider-Man, and Avengers are different universes. Honestly, how many times can you destroy New York City?

X-Men and Spider-Man might be the same now with the retcon in Days of Future Past, but Avengers are definitely not in the same dimension.

Quote :
"In the comics the X-men and the Avengers take place in the same world. Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are the twin children of Magneto. They're originally introduced as villains, working for their father in the X-men books. However, both were rather quickly rehabilitated into heroes and joined the Avengers. Scarlet Witch in particular became one of the mainstays of the team. "

In the comics, it is all one universe

In the movies, fox owns the rights to the x-men, the term mutant, and the fantastic 4, with the new fantastic 4 reboot, they could be in the same universe

Sony owns spider-man and all characters directly related to spidey comics, this is another universe

The marvel cinematic universe owns pretty much all the rest, since scarlet witch and quicksilver relate to the xmen and mutants through magneto, fox could use them, but since they were also avengers in the comics, Marvel cinematic universe can use them (but cannot use the term "mutant" or say that their dad is magneto)

I knew that the different companies owned X-men, Spider-Man, and *.Marvel, but I didn't realize that Quicksilver or Scarlet Witch were connected to Avengers. That's a cool loop hole. What other characters/IP are in that condition? Marvel rosters changed a lot through the decades.

Also, Ultron's lines from Pinnochio reminded me of that eerie scene with Terry Crews in Gamer.

yea looks good. this looks like a darker film but I also thought that about Ironman 3 and we know how that turned out...
trailers be tricky

I dont mind Ultron. better than loki in my opinion. I hope they dont set up a Civil war scenario. I personally cant stand the civil war. I want Thanos.

the quicksliver cross over is funny to me. feels like two different comic books

How can anyone NOT know? it feels like she's in every other film. and she's a better actor than both Olsen twins combined.

Definitely not a comic nerd, so I've been mixing up Ultron and Thanos this whole time. I thought they showed Thanos in a post credit scene in either the first Avengers or one of the Thor movies. Am I mixing up my movies??

Thanos was at the end of Avengers and he had a short cameo in Guardian Of the Galaxy. He wasn't in the Thor movies I believe. Thanos is trying to get the Infinity Gems(stones).

Infinity Stones = Tesseract from Captain America: The First Avenger and The Avengers

the Aether introduced in Thor: The Dark World. At the end of Thor: The Dark World, the Aether is entrusted in the Collector's care, while the Tesseract is on Asgard

In Guardians of the Galaxy, the Power Stone is seen within Peter Quill's orb. Now On that Nova planet now

There are couple other ones not introduced yet.

This is Ultron 's first appearance. He's a self aware robot.

Thanos is a purple God of Death.

Could someone give me the tl;dr version of Ultron? I've heard people say that Tony Stark feels responsible for his creation, but the wikipedia page says he was created by Hank Pym? I don't know who Hank Pym is.

AI created to protect, turns bad, tries to kill everyone. In the comics Pym (Ant Man) created him, but it appears that for the cinematic universe they are switching it to Stark

Ya, from what I gathered from the wiki, was the Ultron is the AI, but he installs himself into various parts/machines/bodies/suits, at one point involving Ironman's armor.

This is more general MCU news, but instead of starting a bunch of new threads for movies years off, I'll put this here: http://io9.com/marvel-debuts-their-new-phase-3-movies-including-capta-1651832265

Biggest news- Black Panther! And he has already been cast: Chadwick Boseman

Cap 3 officially subtitled Civil War

And Avengers 3: Infinity War!!! Split into 2 parts released a year apart

Holy fuck so much awesomeness (even more at the link)

So the question I still have is. . . do they or do they not have Spider-Man for Civil War? Feels like something that should be included in an announcement this big, but maybe they are holding it for hype later to not overshadow Captain Marvel and Black Panther.

Actually, yeah, I'd guess this would be the wrong time to reveal that information regardless of whether he is in or out.

Yeah they do but ever since this Joe Russo quote about Cap 3, people seem to think he was referring to Spidey

Quote :
""That’s such a hard question because we’ve kind of already done that," Joe Russo told him, saying they already built characters into their screenplay. "Do they have to be under contract with Marvel? Maybe they are at another studio.""

Sony won't give up the rights to Spider Man because they know Marvel Studios will make anything that Sony has ever done look like amateur film school movies.

I don't really think it will happen, but the rumors have not been that Sony would give up the rights to him (they absolutely wouldn't), but rather "lease" him, and allow him to appear in some marvel films. I'm sure they would want more money than marvel is willing to pay for it, but it would help boost their struggling Spidey franchise. Also I don't really think marvel needs him, it could be cool, but all these movies just announced are going to make billions of dollars anyways

Also it sounds like they are changing Civil War storyline a good bit, so his presence is not integral

Quote :
"Marvel movie mastermind Kevin Feige reveals: "Events of the whole cinematic universe will make all governments in the world want regulation. Not so much about secret identity, but about who reports to who.""

Good point Money_Jones, regardless of whether Spider-Man shows up this movie is already going to make a shitload of money. Adding Spider-Man isn't gonna make a bunch of people say "Okay I'll go see it then". If they did get him in there though, it would only be to please the fans, which I wouldn't put it past them to do.

Sidenote on Spidey: I read an interesting article a while back saying that if Marvel had never sold the rights of him and X-men back in the early 00s, we probably would never have seen nearly as good of an Avengers movie. Spidey and X-Men are Marvel's two most well known franchises so when they started making their own movies, they would have undoubtedly gone with them and Iron Man, Thor, etc. would have been on the back burner.
