Trump's stranglehold over the right didn't come without costs. Cabinet members are chosen strategically. He's done a masterful job at playing mob boss and keeping rivaling factions of the GOP all simultaneously satisfied. Logically, he had to either piss off the hawks who wanted to take out Solemani or the america first crowd who wanted to avoid a major conflict with Iran yet he managed to come out as the hero of both sides.

Actually, Trump is good and anything bad he does isn’t his fault and is Pelosis.

Because I’m a fucking idiot and hate Democrats way, way more than Trump.

So do you think Trump (or the x guiding him) is an idiot who has just gotten lucky 1095 times in a row? Does acknowledging that he has done an excellent job of maintaining the support of his base and mainstream republicans mean I think he his "good"? Why do you think the republicans in congress are so loyal to him? And yeah I hate (some) democrats more. The opposite of love is not hate, its indifference.

As a Scientist/Engineer, I think this way about all problems:

I hate the design flaw that caused the problem, not the disaster that is simply a manifestation of the inevitable problem due to the design flaw. If someone sits down hard in a chair and it collapses, I'm not going to hate the person for sitting down hard, I'm going to be indifferent towards them and hate the maker of the chair. I have indifference towards Trump and hate for the people who created the conditions in which he became president.

Trump leaves Paris agreement and I hate the people who made it non-binding in the first place.

Trump tries to destroy obamacare by ending the mandate and I hate the people who created obamacare instead of m4a.

If Trump starts a war, I'm blaming it partially on Pelosi for letting wars continue under the aumf (i think thats the one you were referencing)

By escalating the drone war, assassinating foreign leaders, sending tens of thousands more troops to the Middle East, and assisting military coups in South America, Trump is actually avoiding conflict.

Thats the point I'm making. He's satisfying both sides of his support base. He's impossibly avoiding war and taking hawkish actions at the same time.

I also hate to break it to you but none of the things on your list are unique to Trump or Republicans. Trump is simply perpetuating problems that are characteristic of this Country's behavior over the course of its history.

Haha, the idea that luck is what is allowing him to do what he does, and not an entirely political arm that enables and supports him while suppressing his opposition, is hilarious.

He’s developed a crutch too when it happens. His neck jerks and he does that thing with his hands.

It’s a pretty noticeable thing and happens quite often. Ah well, it’s taboo to really talk about it I guess so it’s not reported on.

Well everything about him is unpresidented(sic). He's revolutionized campaigning and political marketing. Rallies, MAGA, self-funding, namecalling, strategic use of negative publicity. Courses will be taught on the precedents he has set.

There's this:

https://www.npr.org/2020/01/31/801632498/trump-administration-loosens-obama-era-restrictions-on-land-mine-use

Quote :
"The announcement represents a break with the scores of countries around the world that have banned the weapon's use. More than 160 countries, including NATO allies the U.K. and France, are party to the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on their Destruction — better known as the Mine Ban Treaty, agreed on in 1997 and implemented in 1999."

And there's also his tweet congratulating the State of Kansas on their Super Bowl win (although Kansas City is in Missouri).

It's a commonly known factoid that just about anyone who kind of follows sports knows by the time they're a late teenager. It's plenty justifiable to make fun of him for it and it absolutely demonstrates a lack of knowledge a president should have.

I'll bet half the people in my facebook feed who brought this up didn't know which Kansas City the Chiefs played in for certain 48 hours ago

and just like Earl alluded to, I doubt it's a "commonly known factoid" that the Jets and Giants play in New Jersey. Wonder how many people outside of our area know which city the Panthers play in?

I don’t care that Trump doesn’t know where the Chiefs play and no one else does either. I also don’t care he was fucking around during the national anthem.

I do care that the Mar-A-Lago banquet hall looks like a Holiday Inn Express conference room. White paint, bad lighting and shitty food. I thought that shit was supposed to be classy.

^^ Don’t be dumb

The Jets and Giants are New York City Metro area teams. They are based in New York City. They play in New Jersey bc that’s where the stadium is located.

The Kansas City Chiefs are a Kansas City, Missouri based team.

Quote :
"The Kansas City Chiefs are a professional American football team based in Kansas City, Missouri, and current Super Bowl champions. The Chiefs compete in the National Football League as a member club of the league's American Football Conference West division. Wikipedia"

If I’m about to tweet something viewed by millions of people I’d do a quick google search first.

Also Trump is peak new money tackiness.

^^ the low information voters on my facebook are loving the theater. The "surprise" family reunite seems like a big hit.

fact of the matter is that theater and spectacles work for trump's populist strategy. He's trying to activate "the uneducated" by emotional appeals and tribalism.

^You're still relegating Trump's base to cousin fuckers. That's going to lose you the election. I had no idea the political landscape of my neighborhood when I moved in. And there has been a decent amount of turnover here. But I know most of the people in the ~100 households here, and this neighborhood is probably 70% pro-Trump. And every damn one of the Trumpsters are college educated. Some even have advanced degrees.

But sure, keep thinking that his base is full of cousin fuckers. In some parts of the country - in this state even, I'm sure you're right. But your attitude is going to cost you. Instead of calling them cousin fuckers you should be trying to reach them with your message, and don't assume their vote has already been cast.

^^I think a) utowncha was trying to criticize that approach based on the following sentence, but also b) what election is he going to lose? He's a poster on a dying message board, not a candidate or even representing a candidate, or the party as a whole.

Besides Trump insults OVER half the country almost daily, why isn't that going to lose him the election?

Giving a hate-filled extremist enterntainer the Presidential Medal of Freedom was disgusting theater, but I'm sure it got him some votes from the Rush-is-Right crowd that have trouble stomaching Trump.

What would be an equivalent for a democratic president? Maddow? Maher? Baldwin? Chomsky? I guess there really isn't one.

^ Bill Maher says the most crass things about conservatives, but not really analogous to Limbaugh. There's probably some comedians that are more crass, but I can't think of who right now...

I'm hoping we see ads bringing up Arpaio again. That was a disgusting pardon that Trump didn't see enough backlash from IMO.

Some comments from boomer aged people on facebook

Quote :
" Well the dems just wasted so much of our tax dollars lnowing what the outcome would b....if folks would let him try and do his job instead of constantly against him we would b better off...hes fought against the govt the whole time being in office...instead of fighting against each other fight to make the country better...maybe now they should realize there is a president who cant b bought and let the man do his job his 2nd term, which he will win...they didnt do anything but waste money and gain him votes lol"

Quote :
" we should all be concerned that our tax dollars are being wasted. It's not a new thing and it has been out of control for way too many years (not just the 8 Obama years). We needed someone who was willing to strip it back and get back to what the government is supposed to do and we got that person. No one wants programs that help people truly in need of help to be done away with, only to be used to help people short term get back on their feet. Not as a way of life that is passed down from generation to generation. Politicians have allowed that to happen and it spun out of control, past time to rein it back in and give the government back to us...We The People. They are supposed to work for us, not themselves. That's why they are screaming so loud now, their gravy train is being threatened. My Opinion...and well at least 63 million others. More in November I'm sure. All the Dems have done is wake people up to the cesspool that is Washington DC"

assholes that want to win like republicans (dtr) are a super minority. they just happen to be super loud in places like this and elsewhere in social media. They also share other republican traits like advocating being heavily armed etc.. this is not rocket science.

no if trump had leftist policies, the far left would be behind him no matter how far into the legal gray he ventured. As long as he didn't do anything against our agenda. Every single bad thing Trump has done has benefited the goals of the right.
Quote :
"because the two parties have completely different sets of values?"

Its because Trump has values and democrats have no values so superficial things like being "nice" and "presidential" are the only thing they have.

Republicans hate trump. Most of the biggest Trump supporters dislike him as a person and think he's a total shitbag. They only love him on a professional level. He gets the job done for them because he checks the boxes on all of their major issues and doesn't relent.
