Thats only going to backfire when twitter gets one "fact check" wrong. My friend who makes a lot of activist posts just posted a video and IG marked it as "graphic or obscene content". I had to click a special label just to view the post and it was only a video from the woods saying "I just want everyone to have a nice day and enjoy nature"

One mishap like that and you do more harm by losing credibility and allowing people who believe fake stuff to call bullshit on all of your labels going forward.

Yeah linking to a post that says 'trump is wrong, according to CNN and WAPO ' will show Trump! Theres no way that will fire up his base or make them angry at CNN and WAPO instead of Trump! The rest of right twitter will be reluctant to retweet anything twitter flags and certainly won't think there is a massive deepstate/bigtech collaboration against them. Republicans will come to realize they may as well abandon Trump and stick to CNN and WAPO for trustworthy news.

Twitter shouldn't be running their platform like a scientific journal. Someone could easily make a new twitter if they start banning anything they disagree with. This isn't China.

The notion that not allowing people to say bad opinions would make those opinions go away is such a bad notion. Its so poorly thought through that you'd almost think the people pushing it don't really care if the opinions go away and just want them back under the rug.

TBC, I do actually believe the internet should remain uncensored. People should have space to say whatever they want and if they are saying or threatening crimes, they should be pursued. Just like in the real public domain. People should not be silenced for being wrong. I'm passionate about that because no one absolutely knows what is correct and what is incorrect but someone has to police it. Its a slippery slope.

As for the right, Everything that involves power is "communist drift" to them.

I think there is a level of responsibility to labeling things for what they are. Fake/joke accounts can post whatever they want, celebrities and nobodies have equal right to express an opinion. But for me a line absolutely exists for people who are supposed to be accountable to the public. I think all news sources, medical experts, politicians, etc who have verified accounts should be held to a higher standard.
