contract details

http://www.newsobserver.com/sports/college/acc/nc-state/state-now/article146014954.html

Quote :
"Keatts’ annual compensation will be $2.2 million and breaks down to an even split of $1.1 million by base salary and supplemental income (from media and athletic apparel deals). With bonuses, Keatts made about $600,000 last season at UNC-Wilmington.

A trip to the NCAA tournament in any of Keatts’ first three seasons would trigger an automatic one-year extension to his contract and an extra $125,000 in bonuses.

Details for some of the bonuses and extensions in Keatts’ deal, which covers six seasons and runs through April 2023:

Supplemental income increase

$100,000 with an NCAA tournament appearance

$200,000 with a Sweet 16 appearance

$300,000 with an ACC regular-season title (as determined by the No. 1 seed in the ACC tournament)

$300,000 with an ACC title

$400,000 with a trip to the Final Four

$500,000 with an NCAA title

Additional bonus

$10,000 reaching the First Four of the NCAA tournament

$25,000 reaching the first round of the NCAA tournament

$50,000 being ranked in the top 25 in final AP or USA Today polls

$50,000 reaching the second round of the NCAA tournament

$100,000 reaching the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament

$100,000 being ranked in the top 10 in final AP or USA Today polls

$100,000 winning the ACC regular-season title (as determined by the No. 1 seed in the ACC tournament)

$100,000 winning the ACC title

$150,000 reaching the Final Eight of the NCAA tournament

$200,000 reaching the Final Four of the NCAA tournament

$250,000 reaching the championship game of the NCAA tournament

$400,000 winning the NCAA championship

The NCAA tournament bonuses are not cumulative. That means a trip to the Sweet 16 is worth $100,000, not $100,000 plus the First Four and First round bonuses.

The contract includes several academic-performance bonuses:

Federal Graduation Rate (FGR)

70 to 79 percent: $25,000

80 to 89 percent: $50,000

90 to 99 percent: $75,000

100 percent: $100,000

Graduate Success Rate (GSR)

70 to 79 percent: $25,000

80 to 89 percent: $50,000

90 to 99 percent: $75,000

100 percent: $100,000

Academic Progress Rate (APR)

970 to 979: $25,000

980 to 989: $50,000

990 to 999: $75,000

1,000: $100,000

N.C. State’s most recent academic scores were FGR (38), GSR (71) and APR (966).

Automatic contract extensions

One year:

? if N.C. State makes the NCAA tournament in 2018, 2019, 2020

? if N.C. State makes the Sweet 16 in 2021, 2022 or 2023

Two years:

? if N.C. State goes to the Final Four

? if N.C. State wins the ACC regular-season title

? if N.C. State wins the ACC tournament
"

Probably, since FGR penalizes schools for transfers.

Yes. It only takes into account people who start as freshmen and graduate from your school within 6 years. Transfers out count as not graduating and transfers in who graduate don't count. So all those transfers out are why that number is so bad.

I read a tid-bit on here a couple weeks ago about a KK practice in which he asked the assistants to put trashcans out if the guys had to yak. I heard the rest of the story today. Apparently 2 players were late to a practice b/c the golf cart that carries them from the dorm to the practice facility was late. I am assuming this is still like a 3 minute walk like it was when I was there, which makes that even crazier.

The golf cart was never seen or heard from again.

yup. every new coach will tell you every thing you want to hear about the previous coaching staff. every fired coaching staff had poor S&C, team lacked chemistry, they didn't "buy in", etc....the new coaching staff always says they're gonna whip the fellas into shape and get them to play for the name on the front of the jersey. it's the same coach-speak every time.

not saying that none of it is ever true. of course there's truth to it...Gott was fired for obvious reasons and it's clear that the players seemed pretty poorly motivated and didn't play that hard. but it's also just shit new coaches say because they know the fans wanna hear it. you don't wanna hear about all the good things the players learned and did from Gott...you wanna hear what they didn't learn and didn't do.

i think there's probably plenty of truth to it most times. new coach is likely taking over a pretty shitty team. you wanna change the culture and make your stamp on things...so yeah, the new coach is probably gonna make some big changes and do things a lot differently than the previous coach. but you should also definitely always take it with a grain of salt.

the worst for this is when they change S&C coaches. the old S&C coach was always doing outdated shit on outdated equipment with no guidance and the players ate candy for every meal....and the new S&C coach is doing everything cutting edge and meticulously planning individual workouts and diets for each player. that's always the spin when a new S&C coach gets hired.

I never said they literally called him "overrated", I am saying they implied it when they did this list (and the one 5 years prior).

i don't see how naming him the 8th greatest college player of all time (and #1 in the ACC) is implying he is overrated.

so just to be clear, nobody or no publication said he was overrated, nor was it implied. ESPN ranked him as the 8th best player of all-time. and while that's arguable, it's a clear sign of respect and admiration for his skills. sorry, i can't get mad that some people think Bill Russell, Pete Maravich, Jerry West, Lew Alcindor, etc were better than him. it's a subjective ranking, and basically everybody agrees that DT is top 10 at worst...there's no implication of him being "over-rated" here. you're wasting your time getting upset about this list from 10 years ago. furthermore, your comment: "Why would we ever think we can compete with UNC?? I mean they had Michael Jordan and D. Thompson is so over-rated" doesn't even make sense. MJ vs DT has nothing to do with why people think we shouldn't expect to compete on the same level with UNC.

Probably waited to hire him because of the dead period that ended a week or two ago, right? That way he could still communicate with recruits.

Seriously. Freeman shot us out of this game. Meanwhile nard, yurt, and abu didn’t get nearly enough touches. It’s gonna be real rough watching us brick three after three while our pro bigs go unused. I know it’s his system but I hope he can make adjustments.

After getting a good look at the team here are my credibility measurements for this season:

- Markell Johnson has a TOrate close to 20 by the end of the year
- Abu stops travelling once a game
- Yurt's progression continues
