Not State related, but Francois has been dismissed from FSU. Will Taggart be able to survive the FSU fans if he has another subpar year? I kind of feel bad for him because he’s trying to change the culture at FSU significantly. The O-line players were clearly not well developed by Jimbo and his staff, and a lot of the players, while extremely talented, are some of the most undisciplined players on the field and make dumb mistakes time and again.

^I think Willie gets at least 2 more years.

My problem if I'm a FSU fan, is that Willie has his system he runs but he is completely unable to adapt it to fit the players he has. That's fine in some instances, but FSU actually has talent all over the field, they just aren't doing anything from a coaching standpoint to maximize it. They're OK with losing and just phasing out Jimbo's guys apparently.

Willie is a proven ELITE recruiter, but he still has some huge question marks at coaching. You would have to imagine FSU is going to give him at least 3-4 years to get a full oil-change on that roster. FSU had the #11 class last year and is currently sitting at #16 for 2019 and #8 for 2020.

Problem for next year is going to be they currently have 1 scholarship QB on roster(Nolan McDonald was a preferred walk-on that might get a scholarship now, so potentially 2 QBs) and 0 QBs committed for 2019. They have a transfer QB that has to sit out this year, so they're 1 Blackman injury away from starting a preferred walk-on.

yeah it's understandable that he has to go through a transition/rebuild phase. but that rebuild phase shouldn't last >3 years at a place like FSU, really.

Willie may be seen as an elite recruiter...but #11 and #16 recruiting classes at FSU wouldnt speak to that.

Surprised they did that so soon after the rework after the Tennessee talks but I’m glad to see it. We’ve been recruiting well and can continue to sell stability. I’ll take that even if I still don’t know how I feel about DD after 6? seasons.

I’m fine with it. His pay is pretty middle of the road in the ACC so you can’t really say that we’re overpaying for the results he’s produced.

Really bad snaps. McKay looks to be the best QB. Knight looks really solid at RB. That freshman DT Josh Harris eats up at least two OLs - he’s listed 352 as a true freshman.

Hockman had a hell of a lol on the first play but otherwise I thought he threw the ball with some zip.

Apparently Zonovan wants to be called Bam? He was very good.

I didn't get to watch all of it but Riley impressed me, McKay looked good as others have said. Secondary looked good but defense is also always a bit ahead at this point in the season

Went to the Spring Game, my takeaways:

Biggest Negatives:
Top 6 or 7 OL were all out.
The defense had to put 1 finger on a QB to cause a sack. Several of those plays wouldn't have been sacks or losses.
Pass drops.
Leary staring down his WRs.
Defense(particularly Brock Miller) on that 70+ yard TD run.
We ran a very, very vanilla offense for most of the game.
Back-up OL held up surprisingly well against starting D.

Biggest Positives:
McKay.
Knight.
TEs/RBs were more involved in passing game which was good to see.
Young WRs, particularly Lesane, looked solid.
DBs looked better in coverage and tackling.
Ingle and Graves looked solid at safety.
Dunn still doing his thing and the punts looked solid(hard to tell with no rush or coverage though).

McKay is going to be the starter, he just looked too far ahead of the other 2 in terms of chemistry, flow, and decision-making. Factor in his ability to run the ball and run some RPO, think he's the clear starter, but it wouldn't surprise me to see a Clemson situation where eventually Leary wins out with the better arm. I think our defense is going to be fairly young but think there is clearly a really high ceiling, particularly if our DL can stabilize and not take a big step back. If we can get the OL and Person back healthy, our offense is poised to be really solid this year, esp with just above-average QB play. Also curious to see how the new OCs do after that debacle of a bowl game.

Spring game is on WatchESPN, for anybody who couldn't make it.

Will Brinson and Mike Glennon are the commentators. Glennon isn't half bad actually, but holy shit Will Brinson. He's a solid writer and a likable guy, but his speaking style gives me anxiety. He's just all over the place -- like a guy who's had about 17 cups of coffee too many.

It's not all bad though. Glennon had some good insight into how the dual OCs are going to work. Brinson had some good info on how our S&C under Thunder Dan works (very sports-science heavy). The play-by-play guy is solid. And there's a halftime promo on Thayer Thomas I thought was actually pretty interesting. (Didn't know how under-recruited he was.)

I watched until 3rd quarter and got a few impressions:

1. Call it an overreaction, but I think Zonovan Knight is going to be a star. The way he makes cuts without losing speed is really rare. I don't know what his 40 time is, but his playing speed is like lightning. He needs to add some weight, but man he could be special.

2. As far as the QBs, none of them seemed to win the job, but none lost it either. I guess that's the big takeaway -- that all of them looked capable. Both Leary and McKay made some good plays (McKay esp), but both also made some bad decisions. I actually thought Hockman looked the most poised out of all of them. When the play broke down -- as it routinely did, since our OL was basically scrubs -- he never lost his cool. His stats weren't great, but he had at least 3-4 drops on well-thrown passes.

3. Nothing else really stood out, but a few thoughts: The young DBs (Battle, etc) made some plays but got burnt also. Ingle moved to safety, which I think is a great move. Josh Harris is one enormous human.

As far as WRs, CJ Riley looks bigger than I remember and made some plays. Lesane is going to be a weapon -- we haven't had a jitterbug WR like him in a while. Apparently everyone thinks Emezie is going to have a breakout year this year, though he didn't show much.

[Edited on April 9, 2019 at 9:54 AM. Reason : ^agreed on Graves at safety. He looked really solid]

A preferred walk-on LB is transferring.

Color me shocked. Our LB core has been drawing rave reviews from Thunder Dan and all of the staff has said it's the deepest it's been since any of them have been here and they said it's the deepest group of talent after WR.

Kid wants to play somewhere, so let him go to a smaller school.

LMAO he's talking about the dude you posted about.

and on the punter news, i will never not laugh at sites using that dude's ratings on kickers. he gets paid by kids parents and has no competition. while he may well be a kicking expert, he is most definitely not an impartial observer and everything he says/writes about any recruit should be essentially disregarded. his whole business is based on getting kids scholarships and getting paid by rich parents.

Absolutely necessary that folks can get beer in the stadium if there is to be any peaceful compromise on passouts. Alcohol sales and removing the 5 hour restriction.

I mean I’d be ok with it if they just revoked them entirely with no concessions. It doesn’t matter the quality of the product on the field or the situation, a significant portion of the crowd just won’t be back in their seats. I don’t think that makes them bad fans, it’s more of a testament to how superior our tailgating and pregame atmosphere is. I’ve definitely taken a pass out, gone back to my tailgate, met a few new friends on the way, ended up sharing a few shots of bourbon and suddenly there’s 5 min left in the third quarter.

^they're not "bad" fans, but they're not really fans of the team either...just fans of the experience. I dont hate it...you pay for the tickets, use them however you want. But i'm not gonna call them good fans or make excuses for them. If you wanna support the team, be back in your seat to start the 2nd half. Its not hard. If you can't go 3 hours without shots of liquor or beer then maybe you need to look into other issues than passouts

^I disagree. I am a fan of the team. I go to a few games a year. I watch almost every other game on TV. I know most of the players. But I can relate to that^^. I'm there to watch the game, but I'm also there to tailgate, socialize and have a good time. And sometimes that means leaving at halftime to meet-up with old friends and have a drink or two. And it's a long walk, so sometimes I don't make it back until halfway through the 3rd or later.

I'd be fine if they did away with pass-outs at halftime if they have alcohol available.

I agree we have a great tailgating scene, but so does almost every SEC school and they still keep their stands filled in the 2nd half. Having a great tailgating environment isn't a great excuse to have a half-empty stadium at kickoff in the 2nd half.

Exactly. Y’all gotta quit acting like we’re the only school that has great tailgating and that that somehow makes it impossible to end passouts.

Yeah I would love for them to sell alcohol in the stadium. But I’d be cool with ending passouts regardless. But maybe y’all can just sneak in airplane bottles like everybody at every other stadium.

Sure. I agree that it’s unbearable. But that’s not gonna change with a no passout rule. Those people will leave the game against a FCS opponent at noon in August early and not come back regardless of the passouts rule. Plus there’s only like 2 games max that are both noon games and 100 degrees.

I like the idea of a bar/pavilion maybe over one of the stadium corners where fans could get in, drink a beer and watch the game from a balcony setting. An East Village Bar for the stadium.

Nah, their stock was never going to be higher. Next year they'd be a year older, wouldn't be any faster, and would have played a year with a brand new QB.

Right decision, still mind boggling that Harmon didn't get drafted until the 6th round. I have no don't he'll be better than that Ohio State receiver Washington took in the 3rd.
