Just going to let you know that we will NOT hear who had an offer made and when it was made and who turned us down.

this firm that we have hired will not leak that kind of information, and I seriously doubt that we made a straight up offer to Johnson this early on.

but until its a COMPLETELY done deal, we will not know.

It now looks as thought things are evolving as it has appeared they would - if Bill Cowher says no then Paul Johnson is the man.

"Wolfpack to join crowd in coaching searches
By Ken Tysiac

McClatchy Newspapers

(MCT)

When N.C. State fired football coach Chuck Amato on Sunday, it jumped into a crowded marketplace.

Alabama and Miami, both with national championships to their credit, also are looking for coaches. If N.C. State is interested in Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Norm Chow, it might have to contend with Arizona State, whose athletics director, Lisa Love, worked with Chow at Southern California.

When North Carolina made its widely applauded hire of Butch Davis early in November, it was working in a less competitive market because Michigan State was the only other school from a BCS conference searching for a coach.

But Yahoo Sports columnist and former Auburn coach Terry Bowden said the competition shouldn't prevent N.C. State from getting a good coach.

"The right guy ought to look at N.C. State and think, `Wake Forest and Georgia Tech are competing for the conference championship. I can do that,' " Bowden said.

Grant Teaff, American Football Coaches Association executive director, said multiple openings aren't always a problem for individual schools. He said different schools often are interested in different qualities.

For example, Rutgers' Greg Schiano might be a more logical target for Miami because he coached there. N.C. State might be the only school that could even approach Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher because he is an N.C. State alumnus and owns a home in Raleigh.

A representative from Octagon, the agency that represents Cowher, declined to comment on N.C. State.

Navy coach Paul Johnson also might appeal more to N.C. State because he is from Newland His agent, Jack Reale, also declined to comment.

Teaff said coaches consider N.C. State's an attractive job.

"Chuck Amato has brought an energy to it that is extremely important to be successful," Teaff said. "He has recruited well over a period of time. They have established facilities that they didn't have prior to his coming."

Unlike the school's basketball search, which athletics director Lee Fowler conducted on his own, N.C. State will use a consultant. Chuck Neinas of Neinas Sports Services in Colorado, who helped North Carolina hire Davis, will help Fowler gauge the interest of coaches and negotiate.
"

I, as would many people, would love Cowher to come here and coach. Do I think its going to happen? Probably not.

However, if/when we make a real offer to him I think we would find out very soon after that the offer occurred whether it be a yes or no. Cowher is a state fan and i would think he wouldnt want to drag our search out unnecessarily and cause us to miss another good coach.

edit:kinda makes me think that would further lean him towards a no with VVV and the way i was thinking. since he wouldnt be able to make an announcement soon

actually Chow is very Loyal to Pete at USC.

I think it would be a closeeee close battle between the two of us and he wouldnt really want to compete against Pete.

that said, I dont know that he wouldnt chose her over us.

you can take it to the bank that an offer's been made, and you can take it to the bank that if he does take it, he won't announce it until the steelers' season is over. he is a professional, and right now his job is to coach the steelers.

I really think its all on Cowher right now. I think he has had the offer made and is realllllly realllllly thinking on it and deciding what he wants to do. The way he acts and talks is completely different than any other chin I remember in the past.

I think we have made the offer and he has said 'let me think about it.'

I really think as soon as the decision is made we will move to our true choice via the firm we are using and that it will soon be announced. I dont think its a 'the longer we wait the better' deal. I think its a its up to Bill kinda deal and wouldnt everyone love to know what he was thinking.

personally I would go something like "stay here and do well, be a contender with some new guys out of the draft, make bank and be secure and heralded as a great but no real challenge or go to State and potentially have alot of fun, success and live my dream out but if i dont do well what then...what do I have to fall back on"

that said im excited thats for sure, and take that as you please.

I called Cowher the other day and asked him about the position.

He said, "Why the fuck would I take that job?"

And then he hung up.

he has said publicly that he eventually wants the state job. if you ask me (which no one is, i realize) he wants to do it, but he'd rather take a year or two off, and he's trying to decide if he thinks this is his last chance at the job or not.

Its hard with Cowher b/c of the season. If he waits until the season is over, we could lose recruits and guys could transfer. We could also lose the interests of other coaches if he even says no after the season is over. I think Cowher is smart enough to realize that by answereing the question any other way than no right now would really screw up the season in Pittsburgh right now.(even though its bad anyway)

excuse me?

I never said Barnes would be here, I did however say that we had already had things wrapped up with a coach...and I never mentioned Barnes.

I did however say that Lowe was a big big time candidate.

I have several posters to back that up

^^^^ oh sorry, let me ncstatetke it up for you. here goes.

herb is a great coach. we were nuts to run him off, i love him even though he left us nearly completley depleted. i love everything he did, his offense was always a pleasure to watch and the team always gave him 100%. anything you say bad about herb, i'm going to say the opposite. oh and i almost went to asu, so that makes herb even sweeter. and oh yeah, i put my frat in my alias.

how was that?
