I make this pizza fairly often- its one of my favorite recipes. even my carnivorous bf loves it:

pizza dough (homemade or store bought, I use a vegan friendly premade)
1/2 cup vegan mayo
1/2 packet of vegan ranch dressing mix
1 clove garlic (I press it usually)

bout 1 cup of chopped broccolini (regular broccoli works just as well)
bout 1 cup of chopped peppers (I use red & green bell)
1/2 cup sliced black olives
1/2 or 1 cup chopped tomato
1 fresh jalapeƱo- seeded and finely chopped

heat the oven to 425. mix the mayo, garlic, and ranch mix together- spread over the pizza crust. top with the chopped veggies- I usually add whatever other veggies sound tasty at the time. Pretty much anything is good on this (I have yet to try mushrooms though).

bake for 18-22 minutes. (20 usually does the trick for me)

the original recipe calls for mozzarella on the sauce then again after you add the veggies- so if you're not a vegan go ahead and throw that on there as well.

so btw- shaba shabu off old wake forest is ridiculously delicious. any entree can have tofu substituted for the meat in it (they also have some that are just veggie based) and they also have a great sushi menu (vegan/veggie sushi included!)

i was supposed to go to irregardless cafe tonight and they screwed us- so we went to this shaba shabu place instead- and i really recommend it. great place to dine out for the meat lover and vegetarian/vegan alike.

New vegan/vegetarian/organic pick-up place on Person Street. They've got some pretty good looking meat as well. New menu every 2 weeks.

that's a shame because I know they used to be that way. Maybe they changed management? It wouldn't hurt to email them and ask them what's up. If they realize there's demand they mind change up their menu since they change it so much anyway.

as far as i'm concerned- irregardless cafe is a waste of a building. i was so angry they cancelled my reservations (for my f-ing birthday dinner!!) 15 minutes before we were supposed to be there. we were in the car - en route - when they pulled that. that is the third time i have had reservations with them fall through. i don't care if their food is delicious, their service is poor enough to make me never want to go there.

^ At least they called you, or at least that's what it sounds like. For my boyfriend's birthday dinner last week we got to the restaurant and found out they weren't serving food because their fans had broken or something. And I had only made the reservation ~5 hours earlier. That has nothing to do with being a vegan, but I feel your pain.

Wow, that's incredible. I've only been there twice, but both times my vegan girlfriend was able to get something she really liked. We also didn't have any problems.

I guess the service was slow, but it wasn't Applebees slow.

Who knows...I'm definitely wary of trying it again now.

wow, damn, I've never run into those sorts of problems there and I've been there a decent amount. But it's been about 3 years since the last time I went so again, maybe the management changed or something.

If you guys like the food at Irregardless Cafe, you should check out The Weathervane in Chapel Hill. I don't remember how vegetarian friendly the food is there, but the food is awesome. Last time I went I got these ravioli that were stuffed with sweet potatoes and pecans and had this maple cream sauce with country ham and asparagus. I wasn't going to order it until the waitress told me if I didn't love it she'd bring it back and get me something else. It was divine! NOM NOM NOM!

I have a sudden craving for stuffed celery. Actually, it's not sudden- I have had it for almost a week. Anyway... I've made it using my original recipe from a family member, just substituting vegan cream cheese and mayo and whatever else for the usual ingredients. It came out alright- but I'm wondering if any of yall have a better recipe you've tried.

btw- my new favorite light and simple dinner is whole wheat pasta with some broccoli (or broccolini), sundried tomatoes, a little evoo, and some spices. Thanks to Atlas for that one. Absolutely delicious, healthy, and vegan

The Food Lion in Clemmons near my parents house sells Vegenaise, FYH Cheddar, Toffutti Sour Cream, Earth Balance and all sorts of other goodies. It's supposed to be one of their prototype stores.

i think food lion is about the most inconsistent grocery store i've ever been in. times where theyre very nice, and others where its a bit scary.

we've got farm freshes up here in VA, where we've found some cool things.

I'm finding it hard to get good vegan substitutes in my neighborhood. I really wanted to pick up some vegan mayo & sour cream to make food for the weekend, but there is none near me.

I miss having a whole foods right down the street from me- now I have to cross a bridge to get to one

Anyone have recommendations for tasty fake meat products that are good for summer grilling? I really like Tofurky Italian Sausage and the Morningstar Parmesan Ranch Chik patties. I know some people are against soy products like this, but I like them from time to time.

I don't think I have ever actually knowingly had that. It could have been in something I've had, but I should try it on its own sometime.

I love it. It's hard to find though. I pretty much had to go to Whole Foods to buy it in Philly. I've never had a bad experience with it.

I've found the best little gourmet grocery/deli right down the street from me- its actually on my walking route to campus. They have some tasty looking side dish items (like israeli couscous salad... yummy). I'm so excited my roommate mentioned wanting to try it too, now I have somebody to go there with

http://www.caviarandbananas.com/

they have a lot of meaty items, but are veg-friendly too

bttt- in case anybody is interested:

chipotle remoulade:

2-3 chipotle peppers in adobo sauce (plus a little of the sauce)
12oz package of silken tofu
2tbsp soy milk
juice of 1 lime
dash of salt

chop the peppers in a food processor- add tofu and blend until no longer chunky. add the rest, blend well.

I eyeballed all the measurements, and it came out fabulous each time. I originally used it as a dressing for black-eyed pea cakes, but I've taken to using it as a dip for spiced triscuits or bread.

Super tasty

^ oh snap.

That's how I decided to cut out chicken (which was the last animal I ate). I had Zaxby's and immediately regretted it. Then it happened with milk, so I finally cut out everything.

red meat tends to upset my stomach so i rarely eat it. i don't like the taste anyway. i was a vegetarian for most of high school and the beginning of college and i've never really liked red meat that much (call me crazy hah). and i didn't eat chicken or pork in h.s., just seafood. i kinda want to go back, but chicken is like, my nemesis. chicken and deli turkey. so i guess i'm on more of an organic kick than veg right now. i still eat mostly vegetables. but i could never be vegan because i love cheese too much and the veggie cheese just doesn't do it for me.

so locally grown/organic is the IDEAL plan for food, for me (but that does get $$$, so i try when i can). sigh.

the only thing i've noticed is the days where i didnt eat meat, i would get really hungry at the end of the night...like before i'd go to bed i'd eat like a bowl of cereal(or 2) and a few other things, that i had already consumed for the day, just to feel satisfied enough to go to sleep

i am also worried about my protein intake because i have whey protein but at 2 scoops a day its gonna run out fast

anybody have some good vegan recipes for beachy food? I'm going there for a few days with the bf and his family, and wanted to bring some snacks/goodies but I'm drawing a blank.

I'm not entirely sure if what I took to the beach last week was "beachy," but it was yummy.

I made a huge batch of Tempeh "Tuna" Salad (1 package tempeh, vegan mayo, relish, salt, pepper. I don't really measure.) and had it for lunch half the days and tomato sandwiches with Vegenaise the other half.

Tons of fresh fruit: blueberries, watermelon, peaches and cantaloupe.

Vegetables: stewed and roasted squash, roasted potatoes, twice baked potatoes.

Protein: sloppy joe mix, Chickpea Cutlets (from veganomicon), "chicken" strips

Snacks were fruit and some vegan chips I found at Target (the flying pig kind. can't remember the name.)
