I've made pesto without the cheese and it's tasted pretty much the same. Just add a little salt to the mix instead. That's all the cheese is there for really.

I posted about it before in the lunch thread in Chit Chat, but I highly recommend the vegetarian "duck" at the Lotus Leaf Cafe in Cary. Very tasty, and different from usual veggie options.

no- it was more than called for. You know damn well you are being frustrating intentionally by asking these questions you know the answer to. Just because you didn't get a clue in the other thread in Chit Chat, doesn't mean you need to come in here and be equally annoying.

so quit trolling.

Ma'am, I would appreciate if you stop trying to encourage me to troll...this is the lounge. I'm doing my best to change my ways and you are not helping. Now if you could point me in the direction of an egg substitute I would really appreciate it.

From Cliff's website:

Are they vegan-friendly?

All Clif Bar products are made from ingredients that do not come from animals except Mojo (contains organic honey and traces of dairy), CLIF SHOT (Recovery Drink contains whey), and LUNA Tea Cakes (contain traces of dairy).

I really want to make this banana coffee cake - I'm bored, and want to put these frozen ripe bananas to good use- but I've encountered a problem: I'm out of agave nectar. I really don't want to walk all the way to the market just for that. Are there any other sweeteners y'all can think of that would be a suitable replacement?

"However, some refined sugar is processed with animal bone char. The charcoal is used to remove color, impurities, and minerals from sugar. The charcoal is not 'in' the sugar, but is used in the process as as a filter. Thus by a process-based definition of vegan, refined sugar may not be considered vegan. For those who would prefer not to use refined sugar, there are several alternatives: raw, turbinado, beet sugar, succanat, date sugar, fructose, barley malt, rice syrup, corn syrup, molasses, and maple syrup."

you would know all about that, don't you?

btw, that's interesting about the bone char used for processing. i am very knowledgeable about food, but i guess i didn't know that tidbit as i never buy white trash: white sugar, white rice, white flour, and white flour products.

Soy joy is really popular here in Japan. I think they taste okay but not great. They tend to be really dry.

The pomegranate one is probably the best imo.

I'm considering going vegetarian again. I was during high school and my younger sister is...It's just a much healthier lifestyle if you do it the right way, but anyway...my question is: do you guys actually have any vegetarian or vegan MEAL recipes and not just junk food and deserts?...

I don't get why there is such a blanket of mystery over being vegetarian. Do you honestly think we eat nothing but junk food and dessert? You can make just about anything in a vegetarian form. If you have some specific types of meals you want us to help you find a veggie alternative for, that's fine and I'd be happy to help, but please don't act like we have nothing to eat or you're going to have to give up the variety in your diet to be vegetarian. I have far more variety in my diet than most of the meat eaters I know.

Psh. My diet has plenty of variety.

Homer: Are you saying you're never going to eat any animal again? What about bacon?
Lisa: No.
Homer: Ham?
Lisa: No.
Homer: Pork chops?
Lisa: Dad, those all come from the same animal.
Homer: Heh heh heh. Ooh, yeah, right, Lisa. A wonderful, magical animal.

+1,000

I love the PPK. The "food porn" section is amazing. I also have a decent collection of vegan cookbooks that I plan special meals from. A lot of my dinner recipes are just common sense: stir-fries, etc.

very true.

and yes silchairsm, there are plenty of meal recipes. What are you looking for? pastas, grains, veggies, casseroles, soups/stews, slow cooker meals, etc... I'm know I'm not the only one who'd be happy to share, you just need to ask a more specific question.

While that was a stupid question to ask, I can see whys/he would think that, especially if s/he only looked at this thread for info, and didn't have any prior info about vegetarianism. I mean, there is at least one poster in here who seems to survive/thrive off various cakes of all shapes, sizes, and colors.
