I'm sure he'll get shot in the foot by the end of the season and will come to his senses.

it's his mom's fault...she's been egging him on that he deserves everything and that no one can touch him.

also, she wants to have sex with him and that freaks me out.

Yeah I kind of think that's ridiculous. You made a deal with the guy, so pay him. I've kinda been on Jimmy's "side" throughout the show. Not really feeling that anymore.

Sometimes when you become a new leader you have to let people know you're not a pushover. You have to fuck people up. That's why he threw homeboy off the balcony. Granted he should pay the dude the 5k but he's trying to show people who's boss.

And he's fucked up royally twice.

^^Not really the same thing.

I don't really know what to make of them killing off Angela; I mean, they never really did much with her character other than making her a lesbian/bisexual. But yeah, Jimmy will definitely be pissed.

This week's episode was pretty dull IMO.

This. Also I thought the dynamic between her and Jimmy was interesting. I was shocked and sad to see her go.

^Interesting? They never fucking talked to each other. To me there wasn't much to her character to me.

As Sepinwall said in his blog this week, the idea of a woman coming to grips with her bisexuality in this time period can potentially make for a veeeeery interesting story or plotline, but this show didn't really have room for her.

I think Richard Harrow will be more pissed off at Angela's death than Jimmy. Which will have more awesome consequences. I think he always had a secret thing for her ever since she drew him his portrait. He'll have it taken care of before Jimmy gets back from Princeton.

I wonder if there is supposed to be any significance to Jimmy returning to Princeton. Didn't he attend classes there for 2 years before going to war?

^Yes he did, and that is definitely significant, which is why they made a point of showing the road sign that said "Entering Princeton." If anything, it's dramatically significant to show how much Jimmy's ambitions have changed since his pre-war days at Princeton. There is some potential there for some Jimmy at Princeton flashbacks, but I think we as viewers can connect the dots pretty well on the type of guy Jimmy probably was at Princeton; for one, I'd imagine he was a lot more like the pansy or mama's boy everyone always accuses him of being now.

^x3 Yeah, Richard was definitely very attracted to Angela, there's no getting around the connection they made in that portrait episode. Also, FUCK YES at the possibility of a Munya vs. Richard Harrow showdown. I don't usually care much for that type of thing, but that would be pretty fucking awesome to see those two badass motherfuckers go at it.

And I read an interesting thought on the comments section somewhere that I hadn't considered: people will probably suspect Jimmy of killing the two lesbian lovers in a crime of passion. I could definitely see that coming into play. I mean, a man's wife is found dead along with a naked woman? Jimmy will probably be the first person most people will suspect.

While I think both Manny and Richard are both ruthless killers at heart with no conscience when they need to be, I think Manny is more of a literal asskicker if it came down to a brawl type of confrontation. But I think it would be more of a "Bringing a knife to a gun fight" situation if this goes down. And Richard would win this hands down every time.

I kinda suspected they were heading toward a Richard Harrow vs. Owen confrontation, but I guess not. Looks like Owen is getting into it with Nucky over fucking the Mrs. in the previews.

Am I the only one getting bored by this show? Sunday night wise, I find myself looking way more forward to Dexter and Homeland than this show...

In fact I can't think of any show on HBO that I can't do without...except True Blood.

^Right. One of the many huge differences is that Fredo actually was the pansy that his family constantly insinuated he was. Jimmy Darmody clearly isn't; he does a lot of brutal murders himself.

Also, Jimmy is handsome and charismatic; Fredo was ugly and dopey. Really couldn't be more different.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan.

At first I thought nothing ever happened in this show, then I realized it was just that nothing ever happened that interested me.

I just can't get into it. Wife loves it, though

Edit, and I am a True Blood fan as well. And Game of Thrones..and Homeland...and Dexter. Just not Boardwalk Empire. I watch it becuase it's decent, I just don't like it nearly as much as the others

i like the aspect of the show that deals with up and coming gangsters like Lansky, Lucciano, Capone.

it can get boring, mainly when it comes to dealing with Nucky and Margaret's relationship...that, i really don't give a shit about, and it drags out sometimes. the overall pace of the show could use some work, and i think part of it has to do with the fact that they have introduced a lot of characters and plot lines that are impossible to wrap up in a reasonable amount of time.

all that aside, i still look forward to each week's episode and feel that the show will end well this season, and refine some of the "kinks" next season and beyond.

I mean, I don't think Boardwalk is an AMAZING show, but I think it's really good, and certainly a whoooole lot better than fucking Dexter or The Walking Dead. I'd rank the TV shows currently on the air like this right now:

1) Breaking Bad (still behind The Wire for best ever, though)
2) Mad Men
3) Boardwalk

Holy fucking fuck. Hard to argue against that as the episode of the series. Loved how all the talk about Jacobean drama at Princeton subtly foreshadowed the very Jacobean end to this episode. Called the Jimmy flashbacks. Gillian is supremely fucked up, as is Jimmy's life. I think he really did love Angela. Also:

Close. Harpooned in the shoulder blade. Also a botched arrest this week with Van Alden.

^^^Do you mean in terms of quality or the style of the episode? I thought this was the best episode of the series but I think there've been other really good episodes as well; the show is just a bit inconsistent. In both seasons, the second half of the season has been infinitely better than the first half.

Do you all really think this was the best episode??? I hated it. I mean it obviously is setting up for something. All it showed was how fucked up his mom is.

I'm tired of the Margaret bullshit.

Jimmy doing heroin.

Barely touching on the Manny situation.

Van Nelson ducking out of his arrest was the best part of the episode.

^^^Don't you have any understanding of thematic importance? This was the richest, most poignant, most insightful episode of the series for Jimmy, who is the most interesting character in the show in my opinion (save for MAYBE Richard, but we'd need a bit more on him to say one way or the other).

It also makes me suspicious that Jimmy may die in the finale. HBO shows don't typically give you such a complete understanding of a character like Jimmy unless they're about to go. There is the heroin thing, though, which makes me wonder if they'd want to keep him and develop that in Season 3.

Also, they definitely left out the Munya storyline in this episode for a reason. I'm absolutely positive that he'll show up in the season finale.

"thematic importance" doesn't automatically mean good. I understand that they were probably setting up something else.

Anyone else cringing during the drunken scene with his mom?

I predict Jimmy and Nucky burying the hatchet by Jimmy killing the broad lawyer and a bunch of other people.
