Season 2 definitely needs more Richard Harrow and Al Capone.

lol "soap opera stuff"...START BLOWIN' SHIT UP, WHEN DO AUTOMATIC WEAPONS GET INVENTED?!

Anyway, who do you guys think Lucky was taking money from in that montage at the end? That wasn't one of the DiLessio (sp) Brothers or whatever, was it? Couldn't quite figure that out.

^Yes. And I thought all the D'Alessio Brothers were dead already at that point. But maybe not.

Wasn't that the million bucks for keeping Rothstein from getting indicted?

^That's what I thought at first, too. I thought Lucky was stealing Nucky's money (either for Rothstein or on his own), but then it showed Nucky's butler counting the money on his desk. So Nucky got the money.

One other minor detail I was a little confused about: towards the end of last week's episode, they seemed to insinuate that Gillian poisoned The Commodore when Jimmy confronted her with the empty canister. She kind of shrugged and looked like she was admitting guilt. But then The Commodore's maid admitted she did it at the beginning of the finale. Was I the only one who thought Gillian poisoned him?

did anyone else notice the possible foreshadowing of Jimmy taking Nucky's place in the end montage? They show him on the beach standing on the edge of the water in almost the exact same position Nucky is in the opening credits of the show

I say possible because we don't really know if that is what will transpire. I can't imagine Nucky being outright replaced so early in the series as he is essentially the main character. Of course it was intentional by the writers to the show that shot of Jimmy as that's what they want us to consider

Uh well didn't the commodore outright tell Jimmy in the second to last episode that "Nucky wasn't the right man to run this city" ?

The Commodore and Eli are working with Jimmy to help him take over as the boss of the city. I think that guy's point about "possible" is that we don't know yet whether Jimmy is ready to totally betray Nucky. We know that he's pretty upset with him ATM, but we do have to remember that Nucky has been a "father figure" to Jimmy for a long time (albeit not a very good one, and not an unconditional one). It remains to be seen if Jimmy will try to take over next year. That's what he was thinking about when he was walking down the beach. Terrence Winter said as much in that interview.

But, in case it's unclear to anybody (don't know how it could be), from what we know, the Commodore and Eli definitely want Jimmy to take over as boss of the city. Unless Eli has something sheisty up his sleeve, which could well be the case. He strikes me as kind of slimy; good character, though.

Well if they stick to the major historical story then Jimmy will not be taking over for Nucky. But something is going to happen and I can't wait to see what Eli, the commodore and Jimmy try.

What was up with that book the maid gave Nucky? Do you think she tipped him off on the Commodore's hatred towards him? He had a look to him when he opened it up to the bookmarked page.

Terrence Winter said that this isn't the case with Nucky, and they intentionally changed him name from Nucky Johnson to Nucky Thompson to delineate the character from the historical figure...I wouldn't assume anything about his trajectory based on the history of Nucky Johnson like you could with Rothstein, Capone, Torrio, etc.

^Well, I think they could capitalize on the fact that the history books may not exactly know what went on behind the scene. Nucky could become sort of a figurehead with Jimmy operating more as a behind-the-scenes boss. A stretch, I realize...Just saying that we can't quite rule out Jimmy taking over.

Or maybe I'm just trying to convince myself that the whole script for the show isn't a few Wikipedia pages away

I forgot about the life insurance policies that Rothstein had on the delessio brothers. He got the $1 million back when they died.

I think it was her copy of the Bible. Which I guess further symbolizes Nucky trying to straddle the line between moral and immoral. Even though he did what he did for somewhat immoral reasons it made him look like a good man....he know's different.

THANK YOU! i'm very behind, clearly.

FINALLY finished the season

haven't read any of this thread yet, haha. i'm so behindddd.

but what i came to post - my immediate reaction upon finishing - is that i thought the second to last episode (and really every episode BUT the finale) was wayyyy better than the finale episode. i mean i know the finale was setting the stage for next season. but i wasn't really left with an "omg i am never going to be able to wait to see what happens" feeling. little disappointed by that.

You watch The Wire? Every penultimate episode of every season was better than the finale. Just the way some shows operate.
