That was literally the best half of basketball I've ever seen. Anyone who likes CBK more than NBA needs their head examined. Almost like saying you enjoy USFL more than the NFL.

The Spurs don't lose that much without Parker/Duncan but you can't sit Ginobili he's irreplaceable. Very dumb decision when homecourt hangs in the balance. Spurs probably not close to good enough to beat OKC anyway, but homecourt could definitely narrow the gap.

Yeah, I was kidding about the Spurs continuing the win streak especially without any of the big three. Although they were so damn close to winning #12.

Odom done.

Quote :
"Those technicalities didn't stop Odom's childhood friend and former Lakers teammate Metta World Peace from devising a plan to bring Odom back to the purple and gold, however.

"Maybe he can come back and be a ball boy and then next year, come play," World Peace said with a cat-that-ate-the-canary grin on his face following the Lakers' 93-91 win over the New Orleans Hornets on Monday. "That's what he should do. He'd be the first ball boy in the NBA that can play. Come back; get the towels and next year, play. Why not? He should be a scout. Lamar should be a scout.""

completely stupid that they rested those guys in a winnable game vs the jazz.

I think the Spurs are done for. Popp has always been a great coach at allocating minutes efficiently but adding Jackson/Diaw seems to have confused him.

They are built for the regular season not the playoffs anyway, but they look ripe for a 1st or 2nd round upset.

Well I picked the spurs to lose first round correctly last year remember. Even took grizz in 6 for money.

They are built for the regular season with their depth but that doesn't translate well to the postseason when you want your talent heavily concentrated.

Ginobili is still a stud, but parker and Duncan aren't what they used to be. If Duncans minutes go up in the postseason that could actually be a negative for the spurs.

And adding diaw and Jackson is a huge negative if they get minutes in the playoffs

Utah, New Orleans and Charlotte need to make a 3-team (name) trade.

New Orleans Jazz
Charlotte Hornets
Utah Bobcats

Maybe Charlotte and New Orleans could each throw Utah a role-player to sweeten the deal.

starting to look like Miami/NYK will matchup in the 2/7 slot with the winner getting 3/6 Indy vs Orlando (w/o a healthy Dwight Howard).

What a walk into the ECF that would be.

Meanwhile Chi vs Boston (or possibly Atl) in the 2nd Rd would be a great matchup.

Not sure what the heck happened to Philly they were great at the start of the year but they've been horrible the past month. I'm hoping Milwaukee can edge them out for the #8 because they are one of the most exciting teams to watch with Jennings/Monta/Dunleavy/Ilyasova flying around.

In the West it's looking like all of the first round matchups will be exciting. I think OKC looks pretty dominant though despite their recent struggles. It would certainly help if they can land homecourt though.

Everyone hates on the old big Three, but the Spurs have some depth this year. No media attention 'cause they play like a team and aren't flashy.

They will likely keep the top spot in the West(2-1 vs OKC) and go far in the Playoffs.

Go Spurs Go!!!

people have been saying the Spurs and Celtics are old for like 10 years, they keep competing

theres not a fine line between "rebuilding with young players" and "winning now with veterans"...its a huge line...the "this guy is 30 years old, he is done" people are tards

Ginobili is still a superstar but Duncan is barely hanging on and Parker is very overrated now. Parker is flashy, but he doesn't do the little things well. He doesn't create net possessions with rebounds/steals, and his FG% is misleading because he doesn't shoot 3's.

The Spurs have great depth which is why they do well in the regular season. When teams tighten their rotations for the Playoffs though that advantage is severely mitigated.

OKC can put three superstars on the court (Harden, Durant, and Ibaka) with a solid supporting cast of Westbrook/Collison. Their other SG Sefolosha is one of the most underrated player in the league. They've got weaknesses like getting nothing out of Perkins/Mohammed and having possibly the worst backup PG options in the league (Fisher/Jackson) because of injury. But the Spurs are going to have severe difficulty matching up with OKC. They've got too much talent in their top 6, so when they shorten the bench they become a juggernaut.

The Celtics on the other hand have their talent condensed in their top 6 with a superstar in Rondo and Garnett/Allen having a throwback year and Pierce still playing at a high level. Stiemsma is a beast and they are much better with Jermaine O'Clown being shut down for the year. The Wilcox injury hurts a lot, but Bass is adequate. Avery Bradley is a question mark, but his defense might prove useful against the Heat if they can get by the Bulls.

Ibaka , durant, and harden are all star players at their position. They are all better than .20 wp/48.

If those guys aren't stars then Chris Paul and Lebron are the only stars in the entire league

You called it treetwista!

Quote :
"Amare out indefinitely...according to face it should probably help the Knicks"

Whole article about how losing Amare (and Carmelo playing great) has helped the Knicks surge

Quote :
"There are two very key parts of the Knicks turnaround. The first is that Melo is playing amazing. The second is that Amare has been injured. Let’s take a quick look and I’ll explain more.

Using the Points over Par metric (Wins Produced in points format) helps tell us what has happened. Since Amare has been out with injury the Knicks have seen a major change in performance from five players. A few of the explanations are easy:

J.R. Smith has played better. That’s nothing new. J.R. plays all over the place. As a Nuggets fan I assure you, it was baffling to predict which J.R. would show up. For the last 12 games it’s been the good J.R.
Iman Shumpert is young. According to Arturo’s predictions he was an ok draft pick. It’s not uncommon for young players to improve so Shumpert playing better is a pleasant surprise.
Toney Douglas has gone from terrible to bad. He’s still hurting the Knicks, but less so. He traditionally hasn’t been this bad so hopefully he’s finding his way back to his old self.
Landry Fields has been terrible. He started the season off poorly before getting back to form. Here’s hoping this is just a slump too.
Alright, let’s get into the Knicks two biggest “stars” and how Amare’s recent absence and Melo’s recent surge play out.

Amare off the court is better than Amare on the court

I want to stress that once Amare was a very good player. If we look at Amare back between 2005-2008 we see he was average at most things required of a center and an absolutely amazing scorer (in 07 and 08 his true shooting percentage was over 63%!) After 08 he slowly deteriorated in most aspects of the game. Then, when he got to the Knicks his great scoring left him. As a result we have a player that was once really only good at scoring, that is now just good at taking lots of shots. When Linsanity first occurred it should be noted that Amare missed some playing time. In the Knicks recent push the Knicks have played better with him out of the game. It is not a coincidence!

In the absence of Amare the Knicks have had Melo play bigger and given Novak more minutes. Both of these have worked out well. It turns out Melo is a very talented athlete but his shot selection is poor. It’s possible that one way to make him take better shots is to actually put him closer to the rim on a regular basis. This same strategy also works well to improve offensive rebounding and Melo has been doing better there as well. It’s kind of hard to gauge Novak as his playing time has been sporadic over his career. In the last two seasons he’s played well though. Swapping out Amare and giving these two players more minutes at the 4 has been very helpful to the Knicks. If they want playoff hope I suggest they leave Amare on the bench.

Melo is on a hot streak, let’s hope it continues

Wow Melo is playing amazingly. In fact, using Basketball-Reference’s new splits tool (I endorse all tools that improve game splits) we can see Melo has raised pretty much every level of his game. Since March 26th he’s been putting up 30 points a game with a 59% true shooting percentage. This is well over his career average and even his career highs. His steals and blocks are also at career highs in this short stretch, however not by much. Basically, Melo is playing amazing right now because he is shooting like everyone thinks he normally shoots. I’ve been burned too many times but I’ll say this again. If he has actually improved his shot selection then maybe Melo can finally be the star everyone thinks he that he is.

Summing up

We have a twelve game sample for the Knicks and I’d be fooling myself if I said we should read too much any to anything I’ve said (although it was very fun to say it and I hoped you enjoyed reading it) I will stress that with Amare on the bench the Knicks have played better players in the PF spot. This coupled with good timing for Melo, J.R. and Iman to “surge” has helped the Knicks into the playoff hunt yet again. While I wouldn’t bet the farm on Melo and Smith staying good, I am quite ok saying Amare shouldn’t suit up. In fact, the current Knicks squad without Amare (and hopefully with a healthy Lin come next season) is very potent. I’m only hoping Dolan doesn’t listen to Isiah and ruin everything."
