My sister saw it and said she saw the car flipped over on the bridge but US 1 and Jones Franklin were both closed when she took the exit. his skid marks def were headed right into the cement end cap of the bridge. 5 feet in either direction and he might have made it. 10/25/2009 7:29:15 PM |

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. — Police officers reported finding a mail carrier passed out drunk in his U.S. Postal Service mail truck in Boynton Beach. According to a release, police received a 911 call Wednesday afternoon reporting a mail truck parked on the side of a road with the driver slumped over the wheel. Officers found a 29-year-old man, whose blood alcohol content was tested to be .264 and .258, more than three times the legal limit.
The man, who was in the middle of his work day, reportedly told officers that he drank wine all night and then drank half a bottle of mouthwash to cover the smell. Florida law considers a driver with a blood alcohol level of .08 to be impaired.
The man was arrested and charged with driving under the influence." |

Marion County sheriff's deputies say 21-year-old Calvin Hoover, of Salem, told dispatchers early Tuesday that someone had broken into his truck and stolen cash, a jacket and a small amount of marijuana while he was at a tavern in Salem.
He then called 911 again to complain that deputies had not arrived, but the dispatcher had trouble understanding Hoover because he was driving and stopping several times to vomit.
He was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants.
The sheriff's office says it has no record of an attorney for Hoover." |

Justin Caleb Crouse, 20, of 4612 Limerick Drive, was sentenced to a minimum of seven years and 10 months in prison for the July 12, 2008, death of Lillian "Lilli" Broox Manis.
Before he was sentenced, Manis' family gave a statement of frustration, sadness and loss.
"Our once-happy family is devastated," Elizabeth Manis said of the loss of her daughter.
Paul Manis mourned the life his daughter could have made.
"She deserved to live and make her mark on this world," he said.
"Instead of grieving, I should be listening to her laughter about some funny story from her first year of college," Elizabeth Manis said.
Manis was riding in a car with her boyfriend, Philip Iavorov Jurov, of Durham, when Crouse hit them. On Friday, Jurov told the court that he still posts to her Facebook page to keep her memory close.
"She was everything to me. Losing her is unfathomably difficult to bear on my heart," he said.
Jurov and Lilli Manis, who were both wearing seat belts, were trapped inside his Honda. She was pronounced dead at WakeMed; he sustained serious injuries.
Court records show that a provisional DWI charged against Crouse was voluntarily dismissed. The wreck report indicated that he had a blood-alcohol content of 0.16 when he ran a red light at 70 mph.
Crouse pleaded guilty to felony assault with a deadly weapon for the injuries to Jurov. According to sentencing rules, that term, between 29 and 39 months, would be suspended upon completion of the murder sentence.
He will be treated for substance abuse while he is incarcerated and was ordered to serve 300 hours of community service when his jail time is complete. He will have to counsel young people about the dangers of alcohol.
Crouse will have three years of intensive probation in exchange for the suspended sentence on the assault with a deadly weapon charge.
The Manis family has also filed civil suit against Crouse. They hope to recoup money for Jurov's continuing medical costs." |

I know how "felony murder" works but I just do not agree at all with these charges. This dumbass no matter how much he fucked up did not commit murder or assault. That night I am sure there was never the intent of "oh I am going to get fucked up, wreck my car, and hope my g/f gets killed." Sure this punk ass should sit in jail to rot 10-15 years but charge him for the laws that exist.
Voluntary manslaughter, felony DUI, felony reckless endagerment, etc.
DUI's are no laughing matter but I truly think the issue has become a witch hunt. When the DA is resorting to fabricating charges of pre-meditated murder (or in this case 2nd degree murder) to slap onto to some baffoon nutjob killing an innocents while driving drunk, perhaps we need to take a step back.11/24/2009 9:55:25 AM |

I agree with you, but I don't have a problem with the way it's done in the meantime.
The bottom line is there needs to be a law that punishes as harshly as 2nd degree murder for assholes that drive drunk and kill people. Until that exists, I don't mind them charging 2nd degree murder for said assholes so they get the punishment they deserve. 11/24/2009 10:18:48 AM |

Quote : | "Cary police: Drunken man slams van after hot dog dispute David Lance Kelbaugh
Posted: Today at 6:05 a.m. Updated: 2 minutes ago
Cary, N.C. — A Cary hot dog vendor says an angry, drunken driver intentionally crashed into his van twice early Wednesday after he refused to sell the man a hot dog and drink for $1.
Police said that David Lance Kelbaugh, 23, of Rolesville, had been drinking before he Pure Gold Club, 301 N. Harrison Ave., around 2 a.m. and tried to order food at Fady Awad's stand outside the club.
Kelbaugh told the vendor that he had $1 and wanted a hot dog and drink, police said. "I was very nice to him, and I told you him, 'You cannot do that,'" Awad said.
Kelbaugh then yelled at Awad, got in his car, rammed it into the vendor's van and ran into a brick column. But the driver wasn't done, Awad said.
"He go and make a reverse again, and he hit me one more time," the vendor said.
"I was inside. I just jumped and hurt and heard something in my neck click," Awad said. Police said his back was injured in the crash. He was treated and released from a nearby hospital several hours later.
Award said he was worried the propane tanks in his van would explode.
"(It was) very lucky, because I was inside very close to the tanks, very close to the gas," he said.
Officers pulled Kelbaugh over a short time later on Old Apex Road. He was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, DWI, hit-and-run, injury to personal property and injury to real property. He is free on a $6,000 bond and will appear in court at a later date, according to court records.
Awad said he wonders who will pay for the damage to the customized cart in which he's worked for six years to support his family.
"All this is gone, the grill, the cash register," he said. "I work very had just to fix this car. This was my dream, and it's gone."" |

South Dakota Blood Alcohol Record .708 for Marguerite Engle Jan 3, 2010
Quote : | "A blood alcohol record in from South Dakota, Marguerite Engle was found slumped over a stolen van's steering wheel along a highway on December 1st of last year. Her BAC (blood alcohol content) was a stunning .708. The woman was passed out, but somehow still alive. Levels of .40 are considered lethal, reports the New York Daily News. Meade County State's Attorney Jesse Sondreal said 45-year-old woman set the record as the highest blood alcohol content state chemists he spoke with could recall was a .56.
The state's legal limit, like most others is .08. No lesson appears learned yet as the 155-pound Engle was found 'drunk and passed out behind the wheel of another stolen vehicle on another highway near Sturgis,' according to the report. She had just missed a court hearing.
More fun with numbers and booze, the News adds in their report that Terri Comer, a 42-year-old Oregon woman, was arrested in 2007 with a blood alcohol content of .720, just topping the alleged booze loving Marguerite Engle." |

^That is so sad and bizarre. Twenty-two seems a little young to be such a hardcore drunk that he's already broken the golden rule of delusional alcoholics--don't drive drunk with kids in the car. Maybe he wasn't that drunk (like .09 or something), and a deer ran out in the road.
Well, actually, I guess 22 years old is still young enough to be a crazy, stupid child in the head. That sucks.

^You're right. .08 is generally a little low.
But body weight already plays a role in the calculation. It's BAC (blood alcohol content), and bigger people typically have more blood so it takes more alcohol to raise their BAC. 1/18/2010 5:02:53 PM |
