"Drunk Florida Man Tries to Use Taco as ID After His Car Catches Fire at Taco Bell

Tacos are not recognized as legal forms of identification in the state of Florida [insert bad joke about immigration laws here]. Matthew Falkner found out the hard way after he passed out drunk in the drive-thru of a Jensen Beach Taco Bell and his car caught fire [insert bad joke about Taco Bell's fire sauce or volcano taco here].

The incident occurred in the early morning of October 1 in Jensen Beach, according to the blog Off the Beat. Falkner, 30, had apparently decided to make a run for a fourth meal after downing some beers, and he somehow made it all the way to the fast-food joint in his Chevy pickup, placed his order, and received his taco before falling asleep.

The Taco Bell manager had to call police because Falkner was out cold at the pick-up window and holding up customers behind him. Clearly this was not a victimless crime, and our hearts go out to the hungry folks who had to wait so long for their late-night munchies.

A deputy awoke Falkner and then asked for his ID. Falkner said no before reaching into his bag and presenting the officer with a taco. Another deputy clarified they were asking for an ID, not a taco. Falkner chuckled and began eating the taco.

Then deputies noticed Falkner had fallen asleep with his foot on the accelerator while his truck was in park. The engine had caught fire, and fire extinguishers were used to put it out.

Falkner's blood alcohol content was between .227 and .225, according to a breath test. That's three times the legal limit. He was hauled off to jail on DUI charges. No word on the fate of the taco.

Matthew Lawrence Weidner was driving eastbound on Wade near Dixie Trail about 2 a.m. when he lost control, hit the utility pole, struck a tree and overturned, according to Raleigh police. An accident report indicates Weidner, 21, was still traveling an estimated 75 mph when he struck the pole.

The speed limit on that stretch of Wade Avenue is 35 mph.

Weidner, who was driving alone, was taken to WakeMed with serious injuries, according to the accident report. He was cited for driving while impaired and careless and reckless driving.

Wade Avenue remained closed in both directions between Brooks Avenue and Dixie Trail until about 8 a.m.

Besides the fact that you might kill someone, you might also run into the "Booze it & Lose it" unit.

"NEWTON, N.C. – A Hickory man is waiting to hear the list of charges he’ll face after slamming into a DWI mobile comand center Sunday morning.

The incident happened on US 321 at the intersection of 9th street around 2:45am. Law enforcement were conducting a DWI checkpoint when a 1989 red Camaro rammed into the back of the "Booze it and Lose it" mobile unit. Were told people were inside the unit at the time, but thankfully no one was injured.

Newton police tell NewsChannel 36, 21-year Douglas Shane Southard was driving the Camaro. Shane was transported to Catawba Memorial with non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities believe Shane had consumed alcohol prior to the crash. Charges are pending in the case.

Ironically, the DWI checkpoint was in the process of wrapping up at the time of the crash."

Up in Maryland. The guy that killed him was a 22 year old.

He was on his way to work - had been called in a few hours early to get some OT for the Holidays. Just a sad situation all around. My aunt and uncle are crushed.

It's really weird, in that "you never expect this to happen to you" sort of way.

^^ I don't "get it" when it comes to stuff like this.

The town advertises a trolly for the First Night event, THAT CIRCLES AROUND DOWNTOWN! Like we needed another thing to circle around downtown in addition to the R-Line. If I understand correctly, there were basically no options to shuttle people in and out of downtown.

I get it that they advertise "boose it and loose it", they should. But it seems like the only option they've presented is to not boose it and drive. Don't say taxi, b/c even theoretically, there are not enough taxis for everyone to use one (completely setting aside the matter of cost).

Now, I'm in the small minority of people who neither drank or drove. But seriously, it makes me upset that the city has such nincompoop options. It puts people who do walk at risk. Because I honestly don't see a viable option for a party of people who all want to go out for NYE and drink.

i mean it's not the responsibility of "them" (whoever they might be) to provide transportation for everyone. It's personal responsibility, which it seems many people forget can exist. Find a damn designated driver. It's not hard.

Again..

I'm not driving. I'm walking and worried about my safety. So is it MY responsibility? I think that, as a walker, I should hold the city to a certain standard for having public spaces where I can safely walk from one place to another.

Some cities have a service where basically two people show up, one of them drives your car home while the other person follows, and then they go off to their next run. Cost the same as a taxi service and you have your car at home at the end of it. Never understood why Raleigh doesn't have this. Or maybe we do and I'm just unaware of it.

^We do...it's called Zingo. They ride tiny little scooters that can fit in your trunk. They drive your car home and then take off on their scooters.
