I'm actually seriously looking into getting a Savage 12-LRP in 6.5 Creedmoor.

Just found out there's a private 1000 yard range about 40 minutes from my house. $39/month, I think, and they host rifle matches fairly routinely. They're the "practical shooting" variety, where you're having to shoot from weird positions and sometimes after some physical exertion. I don't know if I'd like that as much as F-class or something (really, probably F/TR so as to not have to spend megabucks), but I think it would be cool enough to dabble in. If nothing else, it'll be fun to go ring steel on the long ranges just recreationally.

so...why not just buy a target-action Savage, ready to outshoot the 700, out of the box, for less money?

i just shot/ROed for a long range match (out to 885 yrds) this weekend they like to throw unusual shooting positions at you. I've been running a 308 and its ok but I've been getting invites to go to a mile range in SC. plus looking to go with a higher bc that will buck the wind better.

as far as cost vs savage, savage makes a great gun. however I've got friends that build rifles, theyare already set up with lathes and other machining equip. so really all it would cost is the action, a barrel blank, a good stock and bottom metal. plus it would be mine, not an off the shelf rifle.

what area are you in? maybe we can meet up and bang steel!

I dunno, anything less than 1000 on a timed course, I'd stick with a gas gun so I could at least walk it to the target. MATEN based 6.5 creedmoor would be cool

^^ this was a match that was based on round count rather than time. there was a par time tho, you couldn't exceed 60 secs on a stage. if i made a one shot hit in 59secs and you made s 3rd shot hit in 12secs i would score more points. this was a precision match

they also hold matches where its based on time, i do take the gas gun for that. although that is only out to about 600 yrds
